Critics' Lounge / Re: BG needs C&C

I didn't want to say it THAT directly, but Nikolas is right. When you put something in the C&C lounge, you should try to make things better. I must admit, that I sometimes don't make the things that are suggested, not because they were silly, but I didn't like them. That's okay. You've been showed some examples, how you could do the perspective better, you didn't even bother. And "some like it, some don't" is kind of a silly argument, since it isn't an argument at all.

Ok, I hope I didn't offend you, I justed wanted to share what I've learned regarding critics. I've also received critics (not on graphics, though), that I really ignored, since they weren't reasonable, some kind of stupid and rather subjective. But there are others, that I could accept and took to heart. In questions of writing, I've learned to differ reasonable from unreasonable critics, and unfortunately, the writers I met were rather selfish (myself included) and too self-confident, that they proclaimed their style to be the "good" and every style has to be like theirs to be also good, and if you would ask "What can I do to make the story better", you would get an answer like "You can't, since you're a bad writer. Stop writing and let DA PROS do it1!!1" That's annoying, but that's why I really like the AGS forums, because there are none of those "I am king" types of persons, and I learned, that you can really learn something in here. So, that was a short field trip in my life.

It's your choice, nevertheless, so if you decide to go this rather distracting style, I won't stop you.

BTW: Since the house have one side darker, the boxes should also have one.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Spooks!

I think it has MIDI music. I first didn't hear much of it, because it's very silent, and I had to incease the volume on both my soundcard mixer as well as on my speakers to hear it. You could check, if you have activated the midi driver of your soundcard.

It's a good approach, but the house looks as if it's going to fall to one side. That's distracting and not very cartoony either.

When you open your AGS help by pressing F1 and are searching for SetCursorMode, you'll find the new way to do it.

I used the old 256 color palette, so blurring or gradients aren't always possible, or at least very hard to make. I'll try to take out details in the hill-background, though. Thaks for your comments!

Have you thought about selling the CDs on eBay?

Hi, folks!

I've spent appr. 6 hours today to make this scrollable background, that I, indeed, don't need for a game, but for practising.

first version

I know that the perspective is quite wrong, but I tried it out in AGS, and when you walk from one side to another, the lack of correct perspective didn't bother me much. What do you think?

My fingers hurt. I've pixelled enough today, so I wanted to share this background with you. Do you have ideas, what I could add/take away/change? Thanks in advance fpr your C&C!

It looks nice so far, but you should really change the font. It's very hard to read, and the game experience would be much better, if reading the font wasn't so exhausting.

I'm pretty sure that the story itself is interesting, but I'll have to enlist the help of a few proofreaders later on because my english isn't as good as I want it to be. The game is set up to only tell the whole story if you dig deeper and follow some smaller leads. You can play through it absent-mindedly, but then you won't find out about a lot of things. And you probably won't get the woman, too.

That's what I liked on The Colonel's Bequest! I wish you good luck!

That's nice, He-Man! Could it be, that I've seen it before on the C&C?

Yeah, I, too, thought, that wasn't half as bad as I expected it to be. V for Vendetta was very entertaining.

Okay, here I come. And I confess ...it's, in fact, not improvised, since I simply can't improvise in foreign tongues. So I wrote up an improvised story, that came to my mind and recorded it. I hope you don't mind this fact and my utterly horrible pronunciation.

Here we go again.

The Gates of Ollinor, entrance to the Grey Land. Some say, that the Stone Serpent comes to life, when a human being, not possessed by the spirits of evil, tries to open the gate. Are you sinister enough to pass the Gates of Ollinor?

P.S. Seems that I'm fond of dark backgrounds. I should try doing lighter scenes. Ah, and if you want to see all the dark outlines, it's recommended that you don't have the blue background of the AGS forum around it. Try putting it on a dark grey background.

Sektor, can you read minds? If I had won the last BG Blitz, the topic I had chosen for the new one would have been something like "Special Doors" or "Gates". Be sure I'll enter  ;D

The arm behind his torso look like a banana: very unnatural. And the front view ... uhm ... he looks like a primate and not like the expression from the side views ;) The back view is good, though. The dithering is distracting. I like the former versions without it.

Hm, I made a paintover.

I redid the arms completely and changed a few pixels to make him look more relaxed. But I don't know if you wanted him to look like this.
