Wow, great! I've waited for this game.

@Nikolas: It should work on Vista Basic.

Worked. Thanks!  :)

OMG it doesn't start for 30 minutes, you cheats. Why does nobody seem to understand UTC? It's the standard we always use in space!

It's an hour, for Christ's sake. Who cares for extraterrestrial time standards?

Okay, it has begun. Maybe I'll come up with something, though I have some RL stuff to do this week. Anyway, I wish you all good luck and free time to make some little games. I'm eager to see them.

When I click on "Mark all messages as read" I get this message:

"Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again."

EDIT: Now it's working.
EDIT2: Hm, no, it doesn't.

It's way too much noise for my taste. Liked your previous version better.

Critics' Lounge / Re: C & C for outdoors BG

I really like what you've done here. But doesn't the sky usually get brighter the nearer it's to the horizon? Is it possible the other way around?

GarageGothic showed, what great an improvement a change in perspective can be. You also did a good job on lighting the scenery. Great.

@vertigoaddict: Your latest version is a great improvement. I suggest giving the BG more contrast. The "Hotel"-sign is barely readable, and the colour inside the door resembles the colour of the door too much.
I also agree on the depth thing.

Just wanted to say, that I can't participate this time, but I really like the concept of this workshop. I'm curious of the outcome. What you all have done, looks great.

Every time LeChuck appeared at the end of Monkey Island 2 ... ... ... okay, I was a kid, but today I find MI2 scary as well. FEAR had also some good chills.

Oh yes, thanks. I just got remembered of The Colonel's Bequest. Me and my friend played it and tried to find all the secrets without a walkthrough. Finding the Bible under the church's floorboards was a great feeling. Then we decided to take a look into the game files. One of them had some text in it, and there were some words about bodies and basement and stuff. We thought: Huh? What basement? So we tried and tried to get there, died many deaths while trying to reach the basement via the chute. It never worked until one evening we found out about the secret passage in the hedge garden. We fetched the lantern and progressed through the tunnel and finally found the basement. Really, I have never had the same feeling again like when we found this last room in the game we hadn't yet discovered (plus the inner chamber of the crypta you could reach from the basement).
Too bad newer games don't give me this kind of atmosphere. Perhaps I'm just too old.

General Discussion / Re: I have a dream

When I have achieved a dream, I make up a new dream.

I like to have a cd in my hands or in my cd-rack. But recently I bought an album online. It was "Kitchen Radio" by The Polyjesters; shipping from Canada to Germany would have been too expensive, so I bought the MP3s.

sidenote: Great album!

I'm not registered there, and the download works for me.

If done well, CGI in movies can work very well. What I can't stand are CGI monsters in cheap monster movies. It_is_horrible. But on the other hand, the CGI monster in the Korean "The Host" blended well with its surroundings. But of course, a good make-up-artist can do wonders. I really liked the costumes of the Silent Hill monsters.

Surprised no one had replied when I checked it out but I just did anyway and your background is awesome and I doubt you wont be the winner!

It's too early to say, since I definitely will enter ^^
EDIT: (if I get this grass and leaves !%"§$! done)

But heck, you're right. You have made a very atmospheric piece there, zyndikate. Your choice of colours is top-notch.

EDIT2:

Okay, here it is. I hate grass. It really looks messed up.

And for the records: The first stage, done in EGA colours, changed later on (removed tree etc.).

Maybe someone decides to enter MAGS. He makes all the stuff he needs and starts to write the game. As time goes by he realizes that he can't finish it in time. He just has to say: Okay, I didn't make it in time to enter MAGS. But heck!, I have come so far, I will finish it nonetheless. Look at Modalles' "Duty and Beyond". It was intended to be a MAGS game (IIRC), but he didn't make it in time. So he released it afterwards, and it has an 89% overall rating.

What I'm trying to say, is: It's not about the competion, it's about games. MAGS doesn't want to get you started, it wants to see, if you can make it in a month. You don't win anything, after all; it's just for yourself.

My advice for beginners: Try to bring up a small and polished game, e.g. like JBurger' "La Croix Pan". It's his first, it's short, but great nonetheless.

And why should there be a beginner's Sprite Jam or BB. What for? Sure, when certain users enter, they're likely to win. But as I said: It's not about winning a competition, it's about making sprites and backgrounds. Keep in mind, that there are several voting categories in BBlitz. One e.g. is for usability in games. Creating a usable BG hasn't something to do with good graphical skills.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Resonance
Fri 04/04/2008 13:18:51
Wow. That's just ... incredible. Luckily it's not the 1st of April :)
I wish you good luck with the production of this game.

EDIT: And after reading your developer's diary, I have to say: You have had some really creative ideas, that add a lot to the adventure genre. Good work!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Art from Terra Incognito

Erm, not sure about it, but is there a special meaning for the tile being "terra incognito" and not "terra incognitA"? I've seen the version with an o at the end on several places throughout the net, but technically it's wrong.
