General Discussion / Re: Imagination

Overwhelmed by that certain nostalgia feeling, eh? But you're right. I remember playing with a castle, and all the knight were participants of the Knight's Olympic Games. The fought against ech other, pole vaulted with their lances, made a marathon aroung the castle. It was an old model of THIS castle.

AGS rocks!

Since your screenshots do always remind me of The Dig, you can't be THAT far away from it. At least they have a similar atmosphere. And The Infinity String looks awesome already. Can't wait to play it.

I quite like the style. But since I'm a fanatic of symmetrical compositions, I would center the "Infinity String" text. The colours are fantastic!

I think, the contrast of the shadow is okay, but the angle of it, as mentioned before, isn't. And the moon doesn't look very circular. It looks octagonal. But I like the bg overall.

The link works for me. You have to download the setup.zip file.

The game looks great, but unfortunately my PC here is not a superhero, so the game is running really slow. I'll play it, when I'm on my home PC again. But what I've seen was awesome.

I don't think we'll need much more time to vote, since the winner is obviously pointing out.

And the winner is ...

Mad with an amount of 30 votes.
(Sorry for the lame trophy, but sprites are not my strength ^^)

Mad is followed by Peder Johnsen and Zooty with 5 votes each.

And now, go on, Mad, and start the next Background Blitz.

You really seem to be drunk, because we already have April ^^

I think it will be hard. What I could imagine is some kind of "movie competition", where someone makes a movie using AGS, i.e. a cutscene with, let's say, 5 minutes in length. The starter of each competition could give a topic and some restrictions, like "there has the be this and that person or this or that kind of animation".

Nice ones, Obi and Loki. It'll be hard to decide a winner.

Okay, since I don't think, there'll come some more entries, I start the

--------------------VOTING TIME until saturday noon--------------------

And I begin with:

best idea: Peder Johnsen ^^ (okay, I spelt it wrong in the first try); I like the idea with the rollercoaster and the giant wheel in the back
best functionality: hard to decide, but I vote for Zooty (but Peder is really close)
best design: this goes to to Peder again (because of the contrast between background and foreground
best technique: I vote for Mad because of his simple, clean style

All of your entries were very good.

Mad: I liked the idea, showing the carnival from above, but it would only work as an overview map or something. But your style is very good. Keep trying in future background blitzes.

Peder: Your background has got much atmosphere, mainly because of the silhouettes in the background. Unfortunately, the small houses (what are they called? stands?) look more like boxes. A bit more detail in them wouldn't hurt.

Zooty: Very colourful and carnival-like, and I like the idea with the grabbing machine in the front.

I'll have a hard start, when I have to compete with Mordalles, buloght and Peder. But I'll try my very best.

You talk of God as if he would be some being, that can easily be compared with a human, as if would be an old long-bearded man, sitting on the clouds following the evolution of humankind as if it was a TV show. You can, of course, think like this, and if you do, I don't wonder, that you call him "a psychopathic sadist". Thus, in your eyes, since this simply can't be true, you conclude, that he doesn't exist.

It may sound pathetic, but in my eyes, God is not a "being" at all, but some kind of force, that flows through everyones body and mind, and God can't be measured with anything human beings could describe properly, nor is he a puppet player and we're his puppets. I know, that fellow christians don't easily accept my set of beliefs (in fact, I never met one that actually did), and that they usually flutter with the bible, singing some songs and truly hoping, that one day there will come a man with a beard from the clouds to redeem the world. That's not what I believe, but I often attend the divine service and have been involved in many things in and around the church for fifteen years now. I could write pages to describe my set of beliefs, but unfortunately I'm not very good in phrasing such complicated things in English.

Since it's only text, an avi, though only 1,1 MBs in space, pumps up the overall size unneccesarily. As for myself, I make a seperate room, in which I let objects fade in and out, but making an animated background or simply one room for each logo (or whatever) would also work. Keep in mind, that there are people out there with a 56k modem, and they might want to play your game, too, but can't, because it's size is too big due to avis.

I've played your demo, and, too, was confused about how to get the game started. The game plays nicely, but look out, that it doesn't get far-fetched. I mean: A shovel behind a loose brick, with which you dig for the key's door under a loose plank, CAN be explainable, but it doesn't have to. Make a concept first and then apply the puzzles to it, not vica versa.

Other than that, it works well. The avi file is kind of unneccesary, though.

That's ... that's ... ultra ... hyper ... I'm lost for words. It's not the C&C, but the bright outlines of the frame in the in-game-version are distracting. Other than that:  :o :o :o

So quiet in here. Only 4 days left to make fantastic backgrounds, and we just have one entry. Keep them coming.

BTW: Nice one, Zooty. I love the amount of detail despite the low resolution. Good work.

I'm sorry, I couldn't come up with a paintover in your style (not that this paintover would be MY style ^^), but it should be okay to show you, how to arrange a background, that it doesn't look so empty.

The path in the foreground is complete shit; forgive me. It still is a bit empty and here and there a bit sloppy, but I didn't have the time doing something more elaborate. But maybe it helps you. I used ArtGem as well ... this program kicks ass ;)

I don't like this whirl at the end of her hair. But the rest is  :o :o :o just amazing. the colors are very natural. I prefer the version without the photobackground, too.
