I've found the online walkthrough but there are still a couple of things that I don't quite get...

It says that when you come back across the bridge after talking to the Door of Destiny, that you should pick up the paper on the ground. I don't see any paper there.

Hm, I'm not sure which is the best forum to ask this, so I'll ask it here: have the awards for the best games of 2006 been announced yet? If so, where? Or is it just that award-winning games get icons alongside them but there is no list of all the winners published anywhere?

I'm putting King's Quest III to one side for the time being and am now playing King's Quest I (why I didn't play this first, I don't know, but, unless I'm mistaken, KQIII doesn't seem to have anything in it that needs knowledge of KQI).

In the game, you meet the three characters who stole the magic items: the dwarf, the sorceror and the witch. Clearly you need to interact with them somehow to get the items back.

Get to close to the dwarf and he picks your pockets; talking to him is no help.

The sorceror will presumably cast a spell on me if I get too close.

The witch turns you into a gingerbread man.

By the way, this game is really buggy - it seems to crash all the time and sometimes does not change rooms when I walk off the edge of a room. But that's an issue for another forum. I am playing it in the larger-sized window, which is apparently untested (why?) so on my own head be it, I suppose.

This might be a problem with the game - I don't know - but it has been reported as an illegal exception to be posted here. See after the message for the context

This happened when I used the sugar shaker in my inventory on the molehill.

Now, this may or may not be related to a problem with the game itself: I went to save "Earl Bobby..." and selected a previously saved game to overwrite. The game hung and I had to close the window to exit the game. I restarted the game, loaded the saved game that I wanted to overwrite, used the sugar shaker on the molehill and then got this exception.

Is it possible that the saved game got corrupted and AGS couldn't deal with it?

Edit:

Hm, reading the message about an illegal exception in Al Emmo, it looks like I should be informing the game author... so why then does the illegal exception advise users to post in the technical forum?

Edit 2:

Similar error when using an earlier saved game. I have posted a message in the completed games forum.

Now, I know you need to manipulate some things before you can use them in this game, but I'm not getting very far.

I need to heat the steel plate up. Nothing happens if I put it in the fire or the stove. I've tried using the contraption by the bed but that doesn't seem to work.

I also can't attach the strips of leather to the machine outside.

I take it the machine outside is the conkwogger - it doesn't seem to mention  anywhere in the game what the conkwogger is supposed to be.

I've attached the pins to the wheel of the machine outside. I still seem to have them in my inventory though - is this a bug, or do I have an unlimited supply?

Anyone succeeded in finding Obelix yet?

I've been wandering around but haven't been able to do very much (except fall down a hole in the quarry and die). I suppose there is something you can do with the frog but I haven't worked that out. I take it there's a Roman army waiting to attack outside the village, but Asterix needs his sidekick before it's going to happen!

I have a sound effect in my game that won't play. I've read the other posts on the same subject but they don't seem to help fix the problem.

When I call the sound effect, it doesn't play, and when the game exits, I get "Sound sample load failure: cannot load sound 0".

My file is called "sound0.wav". It's in the Music directory of my game. I've regenerated the VOX files (but when should I do this? Before or after saving the game?). The file works fine if I run it separately, so it isn't corrupt.

I notice that there is nothing in the Compiled folder - should the file go there?

Here's a simple scenario that has probably been answered before, but I get too many hits when I search for it.

When I interact with an object, I want the object to be replaced by another and then for my character to make a comment.

The interaction I am using is:

- Remove first object from room
- Switch second object on
- Display a message

However, what happens when I test the game is that the message appears first and the change of object doesn't happen until after I click to hide the message. How can I make the change of object happen first?

No hints and tips thread on this game yet I see - I don't believe I'm the only person playing it. Maybe everyone else here is under 18 :)

OK, so...

to get the herbal supplement I need a coconut. There is one on the beach where I landed. Perhaps I can knock it down with the pole, which the girl who has it will swap for a magazine. Rachel will trade me something pretty for the magazine.

I'm guessing that "something pretty" refers to the umbrella on the beach, and that I need to swap that for one of the umbrellas over the shop, but I don't know how to reach?

I have the comic book. I've broken the window of the lingerie shop. I've been to the beach and the town.

OK, I've kind of sorted out the orders...

I've worked out which order is for which person, but how do I rearrange them so they go up the right pipes?

Also, is the colour significant? Am I supposed to match the colour of the orders to the colours of the pedestals they are on, or the pedestals of the person whose order they are, or what?

I notice that it looks like you have to match the colours in both the English and Japanese games, meaning you have to select a row and a column.

I've just downloaded AGS and I'm working through the tutorial.

I've got three rooms so far and two of them each contain one object.  One of them is the key for which there is already a sprite, and the other is my own graphic of a wallet.

When I run the game, the key is not visible in the first room while the wallet is visible in the other room.

Here are the settings for the key:

1 object in the room
Editing object 0
Object is initially visible is ON
Image is number 2 in the sprite manager (the little key)
The baseline is set just below the key

and here are the settings for the wallet in the other room:

1 object in the room
Editing object 0
Object is initially visible is ON
Image is number 6 is the sprite manager (my own graphic)
The baseline is set just below the wallet

The settings are the same, so how come when I run the game I can see and interact with the wallet but I can't see the key?  Is there something else I might have set by mistake?  Does it have something to do with the items having the same number (I think objects are numbered from 0 in each room rather than globally)? I've tried deleting the key and recreating it and moving the baseline up and down, but it makes no difference. :-\
