Man, do I feel stupid....
To be sure, I downloaded the link above (the game) again to be sure I had the most recent one. That one also gives me this message.

Aargh, thanks for letting me know. Maybe I've tinkered with the code since I uploaded it, but I don't think I have.

Looks like I'm going to have to upload the whole game again then and everyone will have to download it again.

I'm sorry about this. I'll let everyone know when the new game has been uploaded, and hopefully the savegames will continue to work in the revised game.

EDIT: OK, I've checked all the objects and hotspots to make sure none of them are hidden by the bar at the bottom of the screen. I've uploaded the game again. Here's the new link:

DoVaDuLa'S BuRn

Your old savegames should work with this new version. Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone.

I've uploaded a patch to fix the embarrassing bug with the spirit level. See my latest posting in the Completed Games Announcements thread for the link.

Thank you Paolo, I never thought in putting something into the wallet.

I want to tell you that I have played all your marvelous and nice games. Congratulation!!!

No problem. Thank you for your kind words. (This game is not mine, of course - you need to thank Punkkommando for this one.)

Hi Leon,

I edited my post above before you posted your reply.

Hm, I'm not sure what you mean. Could you post a screenshot?

[screenshot removed]

That is really strange. I don't see this when I play the game.

EDIT:

OK, I've uploaded a patch (just 120K) here to fix the problem with the spirit level. To update the game executable to fix the bug:

* Download the file and save it in the same directory as the game executable (FILES.exe).
* Save the game and close it down, if you haven't already done so.
* Run the patch file.
* Restart the game. You should be able to use your existing savegames with the updated game.

The English and Italian versions use the same GUI at the bottom of the screen. Yes, you're right - it's completely invisible. I'm really sorry about that. I'll have to see if I can upload a patch.

Eli

To hide text, type [hide ] in front of the text and [/hide ] afterwards (WITHOUT the spaces).

Hint on the wallet:
Spoiler

You believe Luccico is running a criminal business - he says he is running a laundry service, but the police believe he is a pimp. Maybe you can find some evidence of his criminal activities to give to the police.
[close]

Another hint:
Spoiler

Put something in the wallet that will make it look like he is involved in criminal activity, then show it to the police officer in the car park.
[close]

Another hint:
Spoiler

Perhaps you could put some drugs in the wallet...
[close]

Another hint:
Spoiler

You won't find any drugs, but there is something that looks very much like drugs.
[close]

Another hint:
Spoiler

You can find it at the coal house.
[close]

Solution:
Spoiler

Put your hand in the hole in the window at the coal house to get the flour. Put this in the wallet. Give the wallet to Officer Ryder in the car park.
[close]

Once you have done this,
Spoiler
go back to the fortifications for something that will help with the coconut.
[close]

In the church:
Spoiler

Once you have everything, go back to the church. If you have everything you need, Captain Fortune will tell the Blues Brothers. There's nothing else you need to do. If he doesn't say anything when you walk into the church, then you don't have everything you need. Remember, you need a black suit, black shoes, a black tie, dark glasses and a black hat.

Advanced Technical Forum / Re: script problem?
Mon 10/11/2008 20:17:10
Gepard,

Try opening the room script directly from the "Rooms" menu. It looks like you might have accidentally deleted the lines it is complaining about. Can you find them in the file (using F3)? If they are missing, you can type them back in.

Just for the record, your script should look like this:

Code: ags

#sectionstart hotspot3_c  // DO NOT EDIT OR REMOVE THIS LINE
function hotspot3_c()
{
  //your code here
}
#sectionend hotspot3_c  // DO NOT EDIT OR REMOVE THIS LINE

and similarly for the other code it is complaining about.

Paolo: how do you get the spirit level? That annoying statusbar is in the way.

Oh dear, it shouldn't be... I think I made the status bar a little bit higher when I was bug-fixing because the text didn't fit, but I hope I haven't covered up the spirit level completely. I'll check when I get home.

Hi, I got the spirit level and got the yoyo,  but I don´t know how to get the coconut... and I have also the golden thing,,, and I´m very stuck now... help please. Thank you.

The hotspot for the spirit level must be just visible then - that's good. Leon, have you been able to pick it up?

What's the golden thing?

I've given hints on getting the coconut above - have you tried them? If so, where are you stuck?

Leon, you have been busy :)

Well, playing this one again and being complex I notice the following:

- When going into dialog mode, there's another background (with Pixie) that messes up the readability.

Hm, I'm not sure what you mean. Could you post a screenshot?

EDIT: Ah, I see what you mean. That is the GUI for the conversation options. Not a bug, just the way the game is designed.

Quote from: Leon on Mon 10/11/2008 13:12:25
- The inventory and status bar are contant in your screen, except when looking/using/talking. Annoying since it takes away much of the screen.

You can press Tab to hide the inventory and Tab again to show it again. Indeed, for some puzzles, it's helpful or necessary to see what is at the top of the screen.

Quote from: Leon on Mon 10/11/2008 13:12:25
- The action icons in the bar on top are poorly selectable. Only in the leftmost top corner you can use them. I find the shortcut keys easier in this case.

One bug I chose to overlook (there were more serious ones) but I agree this is annoying.

Quote from: Leon on Mon 10/11/2008 13:12:25
- I'd love to scroll through these commands. Now each time I want to look at things, I have to go to the menu, select look, go back to my object etc. Time consuming and annoying in a game that's time consuming already.
- The crosshair in the main map is off-target. You must select the bottom right corner of the total icon (so that's empty) to select a location.
- The downcursor for the inventory-field is pointing up. When down, the one for up is pointing down, unless when mouse over. Then it's pointing up.... ehhh ... get it? Me neither. It's a mess.
- It might be an idea to only show the locations on the map that are usefull/available. People might become overwhelmed by the vast number and stop playing. Building it up gradually adds suspense to the gameplay and is less confronting. (I hope this makes sense, not sure how else to put this).
- Some texts are poorly readable because of colour. Apart from the fact that the font used isn't (in my opnion) optimal for the job and make things even more cluttered that the locations already are.
- With some dialogs (at grandpa's for instance) you assume the player has been to other locations already or at least know the story more. There are dialogs that don't make sense at all when you haven't. (Also with the capitalologist mentioning the emo-girl. I haven't been there yet).
- When talking to someone, sometimes there's a subconversation. Returning to the main thread, shows the first greeting again.

Agreed, but as these are mainly minor (or involve stuff that I didn't want to go fiddling with when I was bug-fixing) I'll leave these for Punkkommando to look at if he wants to do so.

Quote from: Leon on Mon 10/11/2008 13:12:25
- Interacting with the extinguisher in the studios make me see the map again?

Odd... maybe the hotspots overlap. I'll check.

EDIT: I get this too. How strange. I wonder if it's because Captain Fortune walks to the exit hotspot when you interact with the fire extinguisher.

Note to Paolo...

-During conversation with Pino, I see "..." twice. Is that something on purpose or something that couldn't be translated? Is he lost for words (what would be a first.. ;-)?

No, everything has been translated. Do you mean where Captain Fortune (the leprechaun player character) asks him about his swearing? The original text as dots or dashes censuring it, I suppose (he calls them "sons of b------"). Is this what you are referring to?

EDIT: I see - it's when you ask Pino about his hair and then what shampoo he uses. The two "....." lines were in the original Italian text as well.

You're doing fine at the moment. If you've been to the church, you'll know

what the suit is for.

Remains:
Spoiler
Ignore these. They're just for show. I assume you've picked up the spirit level on the ground on the other side of grandpa. Someone else in the game might want it.

Boot (of the car, or the trunk if you're American) and bear:
Spoiler
These are related - once you solve one, you'll be able to solve the other, but there's a lot you need to do before then.
[close]

Some hints on the car boot and the bear:
Spoiler

* Talk to Don Crosta (in the cells in Janna's cave). He wants you to prove you're trustworthy. Captain Fortune says he has something (not in your inventory) that he supposes won't work. Can you find something similar that's more impressive?
* Look carefully around the fortifications/murata and the square/piazza in case there's something there that you've missed.
* Talk to Cindy in the theatre and Manny in the bar (off the post office) to find out what they need. There's a list of items they want you to collect.
* You will have seen one of these is in Janna's cave, but you need some way of picking it up.
* Look at/interact with everything in the park if you haven't already.
[close]

There's still a lot to do after that to solve these two puzzles, but hopefully this will help you get a bit further.

Thnx! No more silence then.... btw, what does this add? I started the game and got a lot of music/noise already.

Ah, good question. The opening and closing videos are AVIs that have music in them already. There is separate music for each room in the game, plus, of course, music is a key part of the final few scenes. You can play the game without music and it will work just fine, but I'd recommend downloading it, even though it will take a while ;)

By the way, in case it's not obvious, after downloading the music file, you need to unzip it put it in the same folder as the other files for the game. You don't need to download the game again.
#331
Apologies for the bump and the double posting... just to let everyone know that the music for this game is now available for downloading. Here's the link:

There is something lying on the ground next to grandpa, in front of the house.

Also, if you talk to Natalino and grandpa, you'll find there's something else that grandpa can give you, but you need to do quite a lot more in the game before you can get it.

Have you been into the cave?

Ja jajajajaj!!!!

Thanks you Paolo. Now I have another problem. I think I need ECO PER TUTTI, but I cant pick up that, as I coudnt for days pick up the other thing I ask you before.

I like this game more and more...

Scuse me my English please

When you say "ECO PER TUTTI", do you mean the coconut in the tree?

Spoiler

Have you been to the bar yet (top left exit from the post office)? There is another room next to the bar as well. Talk to the people in both of these rooms if you haven't already. Once you have done this, you will know why you need the coconut.
[close]

Hints for getting the coconut:
Spoiler

You can't knock it down or throw anything at it... maybe something like a laser would work...
[close]

Spoiler

Perhaps you could harness the power of the sun to burn the coconut and make it fall.
[close]

Spoiler

Someone has something that will reflect the sun's rays.
[close]

Spoiler

Have you been to the fortifications/murata (top exit from the square/piazza)? There is someone there with something you could use, but he won't give it to you.
[close]

Spoiler

How could you persuade him to give you the contents of his pockets?
[close]

Spoiler

You believe he is a criminal, so what kind of person would he willingly turn his pockets out for?
[close]

Spoiler

Maybe you could pretend to be a police officer and search him... how could you do that?
[close]

Spoiler

There's a police officer in the game. Maybe you could get something from him that you could use to pretend to be a police officer.
[close]

Spoiler

There is a police officer somewhere in the game. You need to find a way of distracting him.
[close]

Spoiler

He's on the look-out for the criminal in the poster, so perhaps if he couldn't see the poster properly, he wouldn't know who he was looking for.

Spoiler

There's something in another room that is being used in exactly this manner.

I'm stuck!

Spoiler

I've spoken to the mother and son. I've also opened the closet and taken what's in it. I have the following inventory items: brochure, recipe book, salt, sugar, pepper, can-opener, peaches, milk, rubber band, jam, cheese, preserves, detergent, ice-cream, milkshake, silver key, nail-file, gold key, coat hanger.

But I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Eli

A couple of hints first:
Spoiler

If you played the Leisure Suit Larry games, you might have an idea what it is already. If not, you need something that he can use to play a game with, but you'll know that already if you've spoken to Larry.
[close]

Spoiler

There is a place in the game where there are two characters who are into games.
[close]

Partial solution:
Spoiler

Go to the bakery and talk to the guy playing with the yo-yo.
[close]

Rest of the solution:
Spoiler

He says you can kick the Dungeon Master. Do so, and something will fall out of his pocket on to the ground (behind you, so you'll have to move to one side to see it).

Can you tell us what you have tried and what it is you are trying to do at the moment (using spoiler tags, please)? I posted the above tips when I was only part way through the game and so a lot of things didn't make sense at that point. This is a huge game so unless there is something in particular you are stuck on it's hard to give specific help. There is no walkthrough as far as I am aware.

By the way, please don't type all in capitals - I know the game text is all in capitals but shouting is not nice :)

-------

One other general hint that should help a lot with this game - try walking to hotspots. Many of the rooms in the game are not accessible directly from the map but only through another room. For example, you can get to the post office only by going to the monument and walking south.
#339
Just to point out to anyone who was put off downloading this before that the download is now a more manageable 58M or so, but please note that this is without the music. The music will be available (eventually) as a separate download. (I had a go at uploading it this morning but the upload didn't complete.)
