Now, I know you need to manipulate some things before you can use them in this game, but I'm not getting very far.

Spoiler

I need to heat the steel plate up. Nothing happens if I put it in the fire or the stove. I've tried using the contraption by the bed but that doesn't seem to work.

I also can't attach the strips of leather to the machine outside.

I take it the machine outside is the conkwogger - it doesn't seem to mention  anywhere in the game what the conkwogger is supposed to be.

PS:
Spoiler

I've attached the pins to the wheel of the machine outside. I still seem to have them in my inventory though - is this a bug, or do I have an unlimited supply?

Cinfa:

That's OK, I took it that the jokes are not meant to be humorous and not malicious.

Finding the toilet:
Spoiler

When you ask the doorman where the toilet is, he says it is through the back and to the right, so you know you need to go off the right of the room at the back where the woman is sitting. The area to click on to turn right is rather narrow, though.

Bongo player: I don't remember, but think you have to get Stephen or your other friend to follow you to the square where the Santa Croce is, and then speak to him (Stephen or your friend) about the bongo player. You don't have to do anything to the trash can first, except maybe you might have to use it on your car first so you know it won't work.

For anyone else trying to get the ID:

Hint 1:
Spoiler

Terrence doesn't actually have it on him.
[close]

Hint 2:
Spoiler

It's somewhere near his home.
[close]

Solution 1:
Spoiler

It's in his trash can.
[close]

Solution 2:
Spoiler

Take away the stick that is propping up the lid to Terrence's home (if Terrence is there, walk out of the alley and back again and he will be gone). You are then able to look in his bin.

I've completed the game.

It's a shame though that some of the jokes don't work when you translate them, especially the one at the end:

Spoiler

The title on the screen changes from "Roccio Quest" to "Froccio Quest" - "Froccio" means "Queer" or "Faggot" in Italian.

Eli, I thought that might be the way to do it, but please hide spoilers in your post: put [ hide ] and [ /hide ] (without the spaces) on each side of text that gives things away.

You need to talk to someone to give you the suit.

Talk to the man in the bar if you haven't already.

Hint 3

Thanks - that makes sense. I'm using version 2.71.

Anyone succeeded in finding Obelix yet?

Spoiler

I've been wandering around but haven't been able to do very much (except fall down a hole in the quarry and die). I suppose there is something you can do with the frog but I haven't worked that out. I take it there's a Roman army waiting to attack outside the village, but Asterix needs his sidekick before it's going to happen!

Great, finished! Thanks, sthomannch. I'd worked out the shoes, and the tie was staring me in the face really...

Off to vote now (and it will get good marks).

Well, I've got a *lot* further, actually :)

Spoiler

All I need is the tie now. A hint, Nissa or anyone else? Do I need to go up the ladder in the alley?

I have: ID, scissors, dustpan, stick, walkie-talkie, rosette (not yet used for anything... hm), suit (sorted out), shoes (wet... hm).

Thanks, sthomannch, but I can't do any of those things yet, or at least, they seem to be back to front.

Spoiler

The fisherman's shirt is not dirty. I can't use the bucket on it. Raj sends me away if I speak to him. I take it the woman in Big Boy Publishing is Raj's sister, but she tells me that I can't see Mr Crocker because I'm bald, and doesn't give me a password as far as I can see. At least, when I try the door in the pet shop, the only passwords I get are "Bumhole", "Titties" and "Genitalia in general".

I think I've worked that one out.

Aha, I've just discovered that I can get into the bank... I should be able to get a bit further now.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, you're quite right, this thread is in the wrong place... I thought I had posted it in Beginner's technical questions... I must have changed forums before posting. Sorry about that.

EDIT:
It didn't work with directories called "Sound" or "Sounds" but did when it was in the directory one level above that.

Oops, looks like I'm being a total noob today with posting things... Yes, the thread was long dead, but someone searching for info on sound files (as I was) might still unearth it and click on that dangerous link.
#814
Yep, that does the trick. Thanks!

I have a sound effect in my game that won't play. I've read the other posts on the same subject but they don't seem to help fix the problem.

When I call the sound effect, it doesn't play, and when the game exits, I get "Sound sample load failure: cannot load sound 0".

My file is called "sound0.wav". It's in the Music directory of my game. I've regenerated the VOX files (but when should I do this? Before or after saving the game?). The file works fine if I run it separately, so it isn't corrupt.

I notice that there is nothing in the Compiled folder - should the file go there?

Thanks.

WARNING: I just clicked on the echovibes link given above and it linked to a sex site that downloaded a trojan to my computer (which my anti-virus software caught, thankfully). So don't click on that link!

Here's a simple scenario that has probably been answered before, but I get too many hits when I search for it.

When I interact with an object, I want the object to be replaced by another and then for my character to make a comment.

The interaction I am using is:

- Remove first object from room
- Switch second object on
- Display a message

However, what happens when I test the game is that the message appears first and the change of object doesn't happen until after I click to hide the message. How can I make the change of object happen first?

Thanks.

I'd just like to recommend ArtRage, which has already been mentioned. It gives beautifully realistic painterly effects (in other words, the result looks as if it has actually been painted with paint, drawn with a pencil, sprayed with an airbrush, etc). You can adjust the pressure to give fainter lines, etc. It has a user-friendly interface. It can be used with a mouse or a tablet.

It is very inexpensive (around US$20) and there is a freeware version too (with some of the features of the paid-for version disabled). The only thing is that if you do want to buy it, you must have a traceable email address (so hotmail, etc, don't work).

Anyway, no one's paying me to advertise it, so read about it for yourselves at http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

Stuck, stuck, stuck...

Spoiler

Hints (not solutions) please:

* What can I use as a wig or hat to cover my baldness?
* How do I get an invitation to go into the private room in the pet shop?
* How do I get up the ladder in the alley?

Thank you!
