Hi!

I'm stuck trying to get the book fom the bookstand. I've used the tape with the bird call - but still can't get the book.
Also, I tried to reverse the bird call with the computer; but still can't get the book.

Can someone help me, please? :)
Spoiler
You need to throw the book on the ground. There is a nail on the right leg of the table, you need to remove it an dpick the book when it falls

CP... I think you just have to be really fast.Ã,  There's a little alcove that you have to duck into I think on that screen.Ã,  Try that.

Is this the wrong place to stand? From this moment on, the father either disappears or sees me, if I stand a little closer to the stairs.

I admit I'm a person who has the music loud only when I feel like singing along and I don't want neighbours to suffer... ;) but I don't mind loud noise in places like clubs or cafes or parties, because music is part of them...although I prefer it when IÃ,  can hear people's voices. But in a car, what is the purpose of it?Ã,  (Yes, I 've read your post, Sylpher,Ã,  still can't see a reason...)
Quote from: Sylpher on Sat 02/07/2005 09:15:30
They do it because when bass is loud enough you can feel it punch, literally. It may come at your discomfort, too which I am truly sorry, but there are few feelings that match driving in a tightly assembled sporty car with the 'drums' pounding so hard you can feel them.
My question is" How they can actually drive in that noise??"
I've seen professional drivers making it in much more difficult situations, but the average person usually can't drive when they are "distracted". Not to mention that in this particular case they like disobeying rules anyway...
Quote from: Sylpher on Sat 02/07/2005 09:15:30
And although you may be happy to hear the law passed.. It won't do much.
I'll have to agree.

Quote from: Sylpher on Sat 02/07/2005 09:15:30
but basically proper systems are setup to be extremely loud at a close distance, but not travel very far.. The ones that you can hear inside a building and such are dumb kids who just got a job at Best Buy and don't know what the hell they are doing.
This doesn't seem to be the case when I'm stuck in a car in a trafifc jam behind somebody who likes their music loud, or when they are parked under my windowsÃ,  at ungodly hours...and I'm a working person.

Dealing with people, even if what they do annoys you, is a part of life......
Too true, but it doesn't make it right. Annoying people is not as serious as a theft, for example, but it still doesnt make it right.Ã,
What about when there are peopleÃ,  around who rely on their senses to cross a road?

Lava, if you don't download it just because of that, it is your loss, because this is a pretty cool game.Ã,  You are seriously missing out.

As a poor dial up user, I prefer to see a couple of screenshots, play a demo or read many critics before I decide to download anything bigger than 7Mb...

General Discussion / Re: My Style

Quote from: Layabout on Wed 29/06/2005 16:56:31Think of how all the backgrounds in the classic adventures all looked like 1 person drew them, although a team made them. Being able to adapt is something every person strive to be able to do. I have my own style, but i can mimic other styles as well. Which is good.
I partly agree with that ...If you can mimic then at least you recognise that there is a style! As you keep drawing backgrounds for various rooms or the spites you need, their style is bound to differ, even if it is completely your own, so being able to copy it might prove valuable.

I also think that "resemblance" is not "copy" if you put some of your personality in it. Sky in daylight isÃ,  painted using shades of blue, but each person's picture is different. There are clouds, birds, airplanes, or emptiness!!

Quote from: Layabout on Wed 29/06/2005 16:56:31
You own style is valuable, but being able to mimic other people styles is a skill worth gold!
Gold which Layabout won't see until the copies of the rare renaissance paintings I asked are finished and sold!! :P

also use http://validator.w3.org/ for the official validator for the W3C.

Also, I just used WatchFire and it seems more like an advert for their services than a useful validator.

I agree. Anyway, it did show important errors. I also tried your link, same failure rates...I'm not talking about amateurish personal pages, but for some really big ones...

Either they are waaay tooÃ,  strict, or some designers should start looking for a job in another field.

MAddox isn't really perfecly designed, it can be pretty hard to navigate some of his stuff.

I checked many popular sites in this site, and most of them didn't succeed!!

but i still don't know what 'going on' means... investigate a murder ? infiltrate some syndicate? kill everything that moes?

Well,Ã,  governments don't investigate murders in remote cities, unless it's related to politics. You could use that one. If you make the bad (?) people intelligent enough, it may work...
The syndicate sounds more realistic, but...oh no, not another Hollywood thing...
"Kill everything that moves..." hmm, good for an action game, but ...could play chicken invaders instead...
If it has to be violent, you could use some horror? Or an ouside threat? Not necessarily from space, could be nature/creature or something?

.......Run out of ideas for the moment.....

There's like 100000+++ sites with white background.
When the site is mainly text, or theÃ,  text is really long, I personally prefer white backgrounds, otherwise I print it.

This can't always be helped in websites hosted for free.

A truely professional site would work cross-browser AND cross-platform ;)
True, although sometimes designers work for what is considered the majority

Music I can't turn off is number one. I want to listen to my own music, not theirs.
I agree, especially when their music opens my download manager...

Depends on what purpose the site has.
Ã,  Another question here...What do you think of general purpose websites??

Try to move on now, people.

Well, I try , butÃ,  fatherÃ,  Giuseppi must have been an Olympics champion!!Ã,  :PÃ,

I tried all the hints in this forum, but I can't follow him beyond the third screen , after he goes up the stairs to the basilica...Any more ideas?

Hello!

Not stictly ags related, but I'd like to know what people find really boring or unprofessional on the websites they visit.
For example, some of them like "traditional" pages, others like flashy, shiny, bubbly things, others may prefer a "schoolbook", modest layout...

What do you think??

CP,
Spoiler
I had the same problem, and it was the fact I missed out on the first bit to hide, the father saw me - it doesn't have an effect straight away, but later the cursor freezes.
Make sure you hide behind the stairs, next to the door on the first screen. If you do it right he is actually ducking below the the little wall. Then follow through the next screen - and then the house bit will work. Good look. To restart him chasing take the train up and walk all the way down... you don't have to hide until the steps bit.

I give up! I've been trying to follow the father for days, but it seems I need some exercise!!Ã,  :-[ (or watch some films...whatever )Ã,  Can somebody PM me what happens in the end of Part II, as I'm not going to run up and down Lyon only to have Guiseppi disappearing on me?
Why can'tÃ,  I just pin a bug on him or something???Ã,

Ketmaier takes the plane back home as far as cp is concerned...

Hello all,

I'm planning to make a new "game" with AGS, which will be educational, not a real adventure game...
I would like to give the player a text file as an inventory item during the game. IsÃ,  this possible? If yes, is this possible without the document figuring in the compiled folder? I mean, I don't want the players to be able to read it before they earn it, for example when moving up levels.
I need a text file because the text will be quite long (grammar etc).

Thanks...
editÃ,  26 june
Judging by your silence, I guess it won't be that easy...I 'll have to be creative with this one...

Potch,
Spoiler

When the bird comes from left(your left) at the beginning of the screen, you can record it... Do you have the sound on by the way? It might help(Well, I ask because I usually don't...) .
Or keep clicking on the bird when it appears from teh left until you record it...

I think you have to talk to the bookseller first, and notice how birds annoy him...I remember I couldn't get the appropriate message before i did that.

Follow Guiseppe

Spoiler
hide behind the house left/up screen. not the house when you come in that screen.

Yes this is the house with the funny face next to the steep flight of stairs. I see him walking up - but I can't move, my cursor is an hourglass for 6 seconds - then he turns around and sees me. He is not around in the next screen - with the door - but in the one after - same story, sad :(

Spoiler
I've been trying to follow the father for some time now, but my cursor refuses to cooperate. I 've written down the positions, saved at each screen , had another saved game when I start following...he always sees me because there  is no way to bypass the cursor and move!!

Can somone help? I made it to the desert, built the shelter, the sun went down, I found the well and I believe I filled the box with water. How do I get out of the desert? It keeps saying I ran out of water and I can't refill the box. Where is the walkthrough? What do I do next?
Spoiler
You have to boil the water. Did you look at the box? You have to look at it, so it is empty when you want to fill it. Then pick up som escrub and use the flint
