Pastis is quite common here. If you don't know what it is, maybe you've heard of Ricard, it's a famous brand.
I don't drink it, or anisette or any anise-based alcohol.
Kinda nasty, yes. But it's supposed to be cut with a lot of water and served with sugar.

My favorite has to be Guiness.
I was told stout loses its taste with transport more than any other kind of beer. So the further you are from the brewery, the least good it tastes... My friend who went to Ireland confirmed that their brews taste quite different too.
So if I like it so much here, I wonder what it'd be in Dublin.

Other than that, I'll take a John Martin's whenever I'm in a pub that sells it.
Which reminds me, I still have to try Porters. But the only english pub I know doesn't sell english ale at all... wtf

I also like trappists on occasion, preferably Leffe.

As a kid I would always beg for my dad or his friends to give me the end of their beer bottles.
When we started drinking, alcopops weren't commercialised here yet, so we relied on beer and strong alcohol.
And whiskey-coke, just so we could fool the teachers...

i think your work shows personality, that's very good.

what i would change:
- move the mouth more to the right. having it further to the left than the nose gives her sort of a "primitive" look (imo!).
- get rid of the white between the pupils and the eyelashes.
- raise the hips a little. the waist looks a bit too long on her left.
- make the breasts a little more discreet (or less conspicuous ? i have bad vocabulary) :)

listening to metal to annoy your neighbours or your parents is lame.
listen to euro-dance ! now THAT would piss anyone off.

have you actually seen a reading room before ?

i don't really have a problem with the perspective or the colors, because you have the right to be learning.

but you should think better of the scene you want to depict. your room is almost empty and there are no chairs or desks. i've never seen a neon-bright big ass panel, or whatever that is, in a reading room. i would expect many more shelves and books. i don't see any light sources. etc etc.

in short, learn to observe, and think of how a place like that would be in real life. don't start drawing the room before you clearly visualize what you're gonna do.

here's an example, to give you some ideas hopefully. if you don't like it, try google and look for reference.

looks pretty good, and lucasartsy too.

you could be more generous with the contrasts, right now the shading seems a little flat. and maybe add a 3rd tone for the skin ?

anyway, here's a quick edit :

i raised the waist of 1 or 2 pixels and narrowed it, and altered the shape of the shorts, to make her look less "chunky".
i'm not sure that's what you were going for, but i think her stance and the shoulders/arms make her look strong enough.

i tried to give more volume to the hair, and changed some pixels here and there.

hope it helps

if you're new to drawing backgrounds, try going for a simple and realistic look before anything.
it takes a lot more than bad perspectives to imitate the DOTT style.

and i like the first one better, because the textures don't really match your "radical" use of thick, black straight lines and bright colors.

I'm going with Grim Fandango. That's my personal favorite, but I also think it's probably one of the only games that everyone can agree rocks.

my favorite as well, but not everyone seems to like it :

QuoteSomehow, I dislike this game, because of the crappy interface. It has really bugged me out. Though, the plot was great, but the graphics were in 3D*sigh*

(i just happened to read that, that's why i quoted it)

alright, time to choose a winner !

many good ideas and even some nifty animations, it was hard to make up my mind...

but my final choice is

Breadtruck the Cat - with the mindnumbing ability to have no relevance to sprite jams - except in this case where his ability to have no ability has made him able!

great work, everyone !

to me, the funniest dialogs have always been those of hoagie. his discussion with cousin ted is pure gold.

are you sure ? the program doesn't recognize the file type, and i can't save as .pcx, but i'm able to open them...
i have the win98 version, maybe that's the reason ?

since you're bringing up the Last Crusade, DG, here's a different example that i find interesting :

in the end of the Brünwald episode, when indy and henry are captured, you are forced to give the journal to the nazis. however, it is also possible to give a fake version, provided you found it earlier in the game.

if you give the real version, the plot is affected and you have to go to Berlin and recuperate the journal. if you give the fake one, the Berlin episode is skipped.

now what's my point ?
when in Berlin, you can get a pass signed by Hitler. with that pass, you can later go through the checkpoints without having to solve any puzzle.

in the end, a mistake that you made earlier in the game (giving the real journal) is counter-balanced when you can get the signed pass, thus resolving a whole sequence of the game.

i think this principle is even more interesting than what you described... what do you think ?

oops.

QuoteA question I have about paint - if you don't mind, oversizedchicken - is about choosing colors.

Games like "Apprentice" always seem to have the right....beautiful colors. I know they can be chosen in paint, but how is it done? Or even in the other programs. Not technically, but artistically.

open a background that you like (or any other pics) in your program, then select some colors in the image and look at them in the color-palette. pay attention to the HSV values.

could be a coincidence, but...

Spoiler
there's that scene where Sparrow chases the monkey : Barbosa takes the medallion back and says "thanks Jack". then Sparrow answers something but it turns out they named the monkey Jack.
not sure if i made myself clear..
