General Discussion / Re:Occupation

i started a temporary job today. in the pharmaceutical industry.

basically, i'm gonna spend this whole week checking thousands of packings, looking for broken bottles and other defects. i'll also be in charge of conditionning machines.
it's a dream come true.

oh, but i get to wear a big white overall, that's really cool. i'm not sure i'll be able to repress my excitement.

surely the university won't be half as fun as this.

umm, you already know what i think of the colors, i guess. so here's another suggestion :

instead of using those small unaesthetic 1-pixel-wide lines (on the sand, the water, the cloud and the trees), maybe you could make some surfaces with a darker shade for each color.
the style of the picture would be slightly different, but it would make it more interesting.
if you don't see what i mean, i'll try to make an example...

another thing : mspaint is not the most useful program out there, but it could be good enough for the style you're aiming at. i strongly recommend that you avoid using the default colors like you did ; instead, try to get familiar with the color-selecter and use less ...aggressive colors.

woah, the emo-trend is spreading to the ags forums... it's going faster than expected.

since "emo" is not only about the glasses, i thought i'd provide you with a 100% stereotype-approved website.

and the best pic until now is chrille's, because it's black and white and he's not smiling...

nice background ! i just want to comments on the colors :

even if you're not going for a "realistic" style, i still think that the colors you use in general could be chosen with more precautions.
they are way too saturated for my eyes, and a bit simplistic imo.

QuoteFeel free to edit it
thank you !
here's a *quick* idea of what i think would suit the image better.

other than the perspective corrections, i'd suggest that you use textures.
also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use a tile-based program.

MS paint has so many hidden details to it! I love it!

Like the right click function on the rubber tool! That's so clever (although I over-use it)!

I love working with it because EVERY TIME I think I've got it sussed, I work out another cool thing I can do by combining a few of it's options!

The only thing I ever use psp for is the fancy filters you can put on things (like blurring etc). But there's no sence of achievement using that. Where's the skill?? Certainly not in my drawing!

that's so true ! you can even learn to use the aerograph (spray ?) tool to make cool dithering and stuff like that ! it even has spline curves !
and i hate misused filters !

That'd be a great comic, but why not rub-out the original characters (but keep the Q-Tip) before pasting Indy and Guybrush?

photoshopping is hard, i'm still learning. but i take notes, thanks.

it's just a rip-off of this thing i made a while ago, but it has a guybrush reference, so it's almost appropriate... right ?

i agree with igor, the style is very recognisable ! i like the use of variable thickness for the lines

i'm not sure i understand qhy you don't want to hear "go back to school"...

i first met most of my friends in school, then i decided to join a sports club with some of them, and made new friends.
when we started hanging out on evenings, i met a lot of people that still are close friends.
so anyway, without school i really don't know what kind of social life i would have, since it really was my starting point. that's why i can't give you any advice other than "go back to school or just wait until you go to college".

oh, and i don't understand how a driving license would help either. the main motivation for me to get one was that i didn't want be public transport-dependent when going out at night, or when travelling far to go to shows.

don't listen to netgraph, i like your idea. as long as it is 2nd degree.
the shape of the character is fine, but you should use more contrasts and some shades, because 5 colors don't give a lot of possibilities.
i think his pectorals should show in front of the shoulders, not behind. and i would make his feet a bit smaller.
nice work.

General Discussion / Re:The Mars Volta

i missed them recently... they were playing at a local festival, but i didn't feel like paying the equivalent of 5 good shows, just to see them play 30 minutes in a crappy place. that's not my definition of a good show.

i know they're touring around here again in a few months, so i'll get to see them in a good venue, probably with a good support band too.

i had never been a big fan of atdi, but i find mars volta to be very interesting. i thought they were fairly mediatic in the us, i guess i'm wrong.

i didn't know fred hollows, i'm uncultured like that. but thanks to that i just found a web page with a big list of famous australians, so i'll fill the gap.

and i'm glad i could contribute to the decoration of your room.

what annoys me the most with amateur games is the lack of diversity when it comes to the background settings of the game. when i first contemplated creating an adventure game, i thought "i wanna make a game with vikings !" then i changed my mind to "what about a story taking place during the prohibition ?". but anyway, there are so many possibilities, and still, i don't see them being exploited.
#80
i see what you mean, femme fatale. but it annoys me when people feel the need to brag about the exploits of their country, or take offense when it is criticized.

dg, i don't disagree with what you said about cousteau, i was just surprised that you would think of him first (and not because he was detestable). damn, i couldn't even name a famous australian besides crocodile dundee and nicole kidman.

i don't know about the subject of nitpicking, i think people do that when they have nothing else to communicate. it seems that the less you know about something or someone, the more you need to criticize it...
