Oh, and I forgot to mention...

There is no narrator in this game.  Abner is...  Shall we say a very egotistical and 'confident' (re: boastful) person.  He has something to say about EVERYTHING.  And amazingly, most things he sees he can relate to his own greatness in some way.

Yeah, Neil's character art is a bit amazing at times :)

Second screenshot added, Darth.  Sorry for the messup..  I've been doing this for like 8 years, you'd think I'd know the rules by now :(

This is my and Locutusofbored's entry for the bake sale, edited on December 12, 2011.

STATUS: Completed!

Thanks!

Game info :

Abner the Amazing

A nefarious deed has been done!  All across the land, the colors have gone missing!  It's a good thing that Abner the Amazing was in the bar downing pint after pint of beer when it happened!  Help Abner go on an epic (and slightly wobbly) quest to find out what happened to all the colors, and take them back!

Assuming he can find his sword first...

Features:

-No narrator in the game.  Abner is a boastful and egotistical person, and is more than happy to tell you how everything he sees and touches relates to how awesome he is.

- 2  additional playable characters will join Abner in his quest.  Each character has interactions they can perform.  For instance, Abner can use his sword.  Dink, the thief, can pick locks and sneak through the shadows.

- Use each character's special abilities to solve puzzles in various ways.  Most puzzles can be solved multiple ways using a brute force, stealth or magical take on things.

-The characters are all on the screen at the same time, so no picking and choosing who you have with you.  Feel free to change between any of the characters on the fly at any time.

- A 2-click interface.  The Left/Right mouse setup to walk, look and use things.

- No inventory.  You heard me right, no stuff.  The puzzles are all solved using the characters special abilities.

WORK IN PROGRESS SCREENSHOTS

Abner finding Dink bound and gagged on the side of the road.

Abner, slightly intoxicated, has determined the bushes stole all the colors from the world.

Abner and Dink follow a lead to go looking for the wizard Mallystra. (Animated boat, lake effect, and birds circling the tower)

The GUI that allows you to switch between various party members.

A room's screenshot.

Thanks,

Alrighty then, as Ponch suggested via PM, here goes...

We're working on a game for the bake sale.  Myself doing the story, dialog and backgrounds, and Neil doing the character art and animations.  It'll be something... Well... Lets just say unique.

Looking forward to posting some screenies once we have more to show for it.   It'll be fun though, working on something other than a Murran Chronicle game for the first time in almost 3 years :)

Better to have the footage just in case you need it than to not have it.

Maybe you should throw things at him too just to see how the human body reacts when a banana is thrown into it's stomach.

Yes.

Alarconte - There is no texture.  I used a noise filter to add to the sand color.

Ilych - That is beautiful sand effect.  What software did you use to make that?

I made another quick recolor of the background.

I added some shadows from the cliffs/rocks, and made the background sand blend from dark -> light, which I hope gets the point of elevation across.

It looks like I accidentally dragged the sand layer 1 pixel down, since now a lot of the rocks have white pixels on them.  You can recolor/delete those :)

As for how to modify the foreground sand to shoe elevation changes, I have no clue.  Maybe try to reproduce small waves in the sand like from wind?  I think coloring will accomplish that.  Tinting or adjusting brightness/colorization.

I did a really quick edit of it (my first ever try at helping someone with artwork :) )

I just added a noise effect to the sand, to make it have a bit of texture.  Then I added a gradient to the sky so it fades.  It adds some depth to the image.

I am sure others can help a lot more, but I just use Paint.Net, which is a free software with limited ability lol.

For blending the cliffs into the sand, maybe lighten the edges a bit.  They have the black outline, which really makes them "pop" or stand out more than without the outline.

Just found out that Adventure Gamers.com reviewed and recommended Lifedrinker in their September 2011 "Following Freeware". :)

Yeah, I've gone the way of my own logo :)  I just thought it would be cool to have the cup, but it is a bit too much.

Thanks!

Yeah, I kinda agree about the tackyness..  That's why I asked.

Meh, I dunno.  Maybe I'll just use the generic triangle images from my in-game logo :)

We'll see.

I've decided to finally do a real website for Weggieware Games instead of the little dinky site I did like 5 years ago, and get my own domain instead of running it off of my personal website.

So, I am about done with the site, and am working on a logo for it.  On the logo, I wanted to somehow incorporate that all the games are AGS games, and I figured what better way than to use the sexy ol' "Big Blue Cup" in there.

Then I got to wonder about it...  I don't want people to think I am in any way related to the development of AGS, or to think that (God forbid) I am CJ.  That would be a serious detriment to CJ's reputation :)

Anyone have any thoughts on that?  Is the blue cup symbol copywrited?  Is it just tacky (in your opinion) to use it?

I was thinking something like this (draft version) :

Thanks,

Bill

I can say fairly confidently that is isn't Who Are You :)

I don't know...  It sounds somewhat familiar, and has a distinctive older maybe 70s or 80s vibe to it.  Where did you hear it?  The radio?  What kind of music or what era of music?

I am with Zoot.  That clip you made sounds a lot like Who Are You.

What were Einstein and Curie doing to that poor goldfish?

Check the "Games In Progress" forum for a thread called "Kinky Island".  I think that about sums it up : http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=44664

DING DING!

Mr. Dan has secured a most glorious victory!

I didn't remember that she plays Marie Curie, otherwise I would've said so when Ascovel said something.

But yes, it is the best Tazmanian Einstein movie ever.  Yahoo Serious was a very undervalued comedian  :o

I will post more screens in a few hours if nobody gets it :)

It is a comedy though.  Just a hint.

I think that chemistry set might belong to Sherlock Holmes.

Or maybe it's Marie Skłodowska Curie?

Nope, and nope.  But it is a clue as to the owner/movie.

So it's not "Typical Tuesday in Nippon" then?

I don't think so.

I concur!
