I think we might have a winner.  I googled it, and by GOD that car is ugly.

Then again, Mark Hammill is in it, so it can't be all bad :)

I like the story and to find things like this:

Haha, you were actually the first person to notice the screen on his computer are these AGS forums :)  Or at least the first person to mention it.

Some little irritations
Spoiler
like a doors hotspot at a window, missing talking reactions, going through things or loosing the shield while walking

didn't stop me from having fun to play and (after countless frustrating death's) I was rewarded very well at the end with the amusing bloopers  8)

Glad you liked the ending bloopers sequence.  That was Neil's idea, and I think it turned out quite well.  I will look for those issues you mentioned and work them into the next bugfix.

We'll miss him.

I still have a copy of the old "The C Programming Language" by Kerninghan & Ritchie sitting right here on my desk amongst all my other coding reference material.  Many years old, but a classic.

Time to upgrade to an LCD flat-panel monitor, Kodiak.

I say yes, do a small death animation.

In Murran Chronicles 3, there are 3 screens in the entire game where deaths are possible.  On those screens there are numerous ways to die, and I took the route of doing a custom death animation for each way to die (impaled by tentacle, burst into flames, magic spell from a bad dude in the end-battle, etc), and I have it cut to the "Game Over" screen with the still-frame of the last image from the death animation.  I think it turned out nicely, the death animation takes no more than 1-2 seconds to run, and it gets the point across.  The death screen is customized for how you died, and even gives pointers on how to survive.

I think it is all in how you do the death scene.  Some players are more willing to watch that stuff than others.

I like it, the detail is nice on the shirt.

Didn't Sierra do a hi-res sprite of Roger in some of the later SQ games?  I thought they got the up-treatment in the later incarnations of our Janitor-Hero.

Oh, and by the way, I have $1.2 million in a Nigerian bank account.  A relative died and left it to you.  If you send me your bank account info I will split it with you 50/50.  My share is for the paperwork.

Poc301 started out ages ago in the ELiTE BBS scene of the early 90s before the internet as we know it.

Originally my alias/handle was Prince of Chaos (a book in a series I love), but that got very tiresome to type all the time, so I used to abbreviate it to PoC.  Then it morphed to PoC301 since 301 was my telephone area code when I was young.

So here I am, 20 years later, poc301.

He is the super-bad-guy, so he is fast.

As SOON as the dialog ends, he begins to attack you.  There is no timer issue, you have 2 full seconds to react to each phase of this encounter.

Spoiler
If you listen closely, there is always a hint as to what he is doing, or what kind of spell he is casting.
[close]

Phase 1 Hint
Spoiler
He is casting something directly at you.  It will hurt if he finishes casting it.
[close]

Phase 1 Spoiler
Spoiler
Cast your shield spell to protect yourself.
[close]

---

Phase 2 Hint
Spoiler
He is going around the direct damage spell protection.  An area-of-effect spell.
[close]

Phase 2 Spoiler
Spoiler
He is removing the ground from below you.  Teleport yourself to another place on the screen.
[close]

---

Phase 3 Hint
Spoiler
He is going to squish you with a rock.  Maybe try to stop him.
[close]

Phase 3 Spoiler
Spoiler
Use your Far Hands spell on the rock.

----

Now he is doubled over in pain, stunned.

Phase 4 Hint
Spoiler
He is immune to all direct attacks. The key word is "Attack".  Look at his robe maybe, for a  hint?

Phase 4 Spoiler
Spoiler
Cast your growth spell at his robe.  It has a bunch of vines interwoven in it.  Not a good way to go :)

Not at all, PM away.  In retrospect, this could've been done in a PM, but what the heck, one more bump for my thread :)

My first adventure game was Monkey Island 2. I played it on an Amiga hooked up to a large speaker system. Wow!
The atmosphere was simply amazing, and I was hooked on the genre ever since.
Then I immediately played Monkey Island 1.
Then just around the corner was Fate of Atlantis. I knew I was going to love it, and sure enough, I did! ;D

I don't know why, but this made me think of "Legend of Kyrandia: The Hand of Fate".  I liked all the Kyrandia games, Malcolm's Revenge being one that really sticks out due to the 3D animations, but Hand of Fate is one of those classics that really holds a dear place in my heart.

Again, no idea why your post made me think of that, but I had to share it :)

Thanks so much for the feedback Shadow, I appreciate it.

I can't say how happy I am that so many people like the character development in this game (especially Gary, the punk-rocker), since that was the primary concern people had in Episode 2.

I appreciate the criticisms, and will try to incorporate the feedback into Game 4.  Until the one puzzle here, I had never considered how players with various forms of color-blindness would be able to progress.  Needless to say, I will try to keep it in mind for the future.

Thanks, and I'm really glad you enjoyed the game :)

Hey Bill, played the game and overall really enjoyed it!

You have now been Goat Parked!  :D

Thanks for taking the time to write up the review :)  All the suggestions will be taken into account during Episode 4 development.

Just one thing to clarify the comment about the endless maze puzzle :

Spoiler
The solution/path to take is in the poster on the wall of the Gaelic R Us shop in town.

Again, thanks for the kind words, and I am glad you enjoyed it :)

Shadow, you likely have an older version of the game.  The initial release had a bug in it where you could use the rock when Vaektor wasn't in the screen.  That has been fixed in the version now downloadable (which it sounds like Rutitah has, since he can't use it).

Shadow and Rutitah, to defeat the elf, you're on the right track, using a magic spell.  You'll need to maybe try another one.  Feel free to experiment.  Each spell has a different effect.  Maybe one will work where another will not.

**Edit**

Let me clarify to lessen any frustration.  You'll need to use a magic spell:

On the elf, not something else on the screen.

For a total and complete spoiler of what to do :

Spoiler
You need to teleport yourself into the elf.  Let's just say 2 things can't occupy the same space at the same time.

I was kidding in my post.  :)

It needs a spraypaint tool!

I have an object which has a movement speed of 1.

It is set to scale with the walk-area, and does so nicely.

I've noticed though that it doesn't scale speed-wise, only size-wise.

The object is set at speed 1 right now since it is the slowest, but it is still way too fast for my liking, even when scaled down to 10% size.

Can speed be controlled?

Thanks,

Bill

Hmmm... Not sure what to tell you about that.  The path through is there and is working.  Maybe you went one too many screens or something?  Nobody else has gotten stuck on it.  There is a difinitive path through.

Thanks,

Bill.

Yes eventually I got through. It is a matter of luck to find the hotspot to pass into the next cave room. I found going through the cave rooms was painful, all the other rooms are fine. I am running Win7, either in window mode or full screen  mode.

I am haven trouble fighting Vaektor. Just a split second to do something and everything fails; just once - not sure what I did - then he crushed me. I saw a hint for that...

A hint please? Can we slow the game down?

Thanks, TassieDevil

No, no way to slow the game down.  You've got to be quick.  You're fighting a really bad dude, so he is fast.

You have exactly 2 seconds for each 'phase' of this encounter.  Each phase requires you to use a different method.  The rock crushing you can be avoided if you stop it.  I left hints earlier in this thread about it.

Thanks!
