The eraser is Hotspot 0.

To use it, select hotspot 0 from the dropdown on the right pane.

Then draw freehand, use the line tool or paint.  It will draw a line, but will erase any hotspot underneath where the line goes.  If you use the fill bucket tool, it will fill an entire hotspot area with the hotspot 0, erasing it.

I dunno if it does or not, I assumed it did.  As soon as I saw "no lip-synching" I abandoned the idea since I need lip-synch for my game.

Completed Game Announcements / Feedback
Fri 30/09/2011 18:23:15
Hi all,

I've gotten 2 PMs now and one email from people asking if I'd like to have feedback or critiques on the game.  The answer is a resounding YES.  This was only my 4th game (3rd real game, one was just a learning experience I released to the public), so any feedback is much appreciated.  I took the feedback from Murran 2 to improve on things in Murran 3, and plan on doing the same with this game as I make Murran 4.

Also, please feel free to leave comments or vote on the game at the Games page : http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1483

Thanks guys,

Bill

Which module were you referring to when you said "Electroshokker's" ?

The "Background Speech Module" in the link above.

Are anyone make a walkthrough please.
I think Leon are too busy to make walkthroughs for his website !

I can provide hints.  I wrote the game, so I know how to solve all the puzzles :)  Are you having a problem anywhere in particular?

Thanks,

Bill

For that puzzle, have you tried looking at all options available to you?

Maybe looking more closely at Vaektor will give you a hint as to what you can do.

Cast the growth spell at him.  His robe is infused with vines, and they act like the vines in the floor-puzzle room.

Hmmm... Not sure what to tell you about that.  The path through is there and is working.  Maybe you went one too many screens or something?  Nobody else has gotten stuck on it.  There is a difinitive path through.

Thanks,

Thanks for the insight.  I actually got it working quite easily with very little 'fuss' using a combination of your and my idea.  In case anyone wants to do it, here is how I did it:

1) Create a duplicate character for any one you want to move while talking with the same views (I did 2 different characters in mine).
2) Hide the real characters somewhere so they aren't visible.
3) Move the fake characters to their movement point/points when the screen loads.
4) Animate any background stuff (mine had moving cars and people in a city-scene) in the repeatedly_execute_always() script in the global script file.
4a) Make this global script only run if the RoomProperty is true for that one room you're doing this in.
5) Set the room property value to whatever the global script checks for, and set it to true.
6) Make the real, and hidden, characters do the talking.

It works like a charm, and didn't take long at all to set up.

Thanks,

Bill

In the intro sequence for my new game, I want the two characters to be walking on the screen, having a conversation.  I don't want them to stop each time they talk.

I am using lip synch and speech portraits, along with voice acting.  I looked at the various modules available, and most look ok, but are missing one feature or another.  The one that I think fits most closely is Electroshokker's, but it doesn't do lip synching.

Lip Synch + speech portrait + voice acting + characters walking = happy me.

I figured one workaround was to create two dummy characters with the walkcycles of the 2 in question, and just have them walk while the 2 doing the talking are hidden on-screen.

Is it possible to code it in?  I didn't see any way to, but I figured I'd ask if it were possible to get my cake and eat it too without taking the cheap route of doppelgangers doing the walking in the game.

Thoughts or ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill --

This game was worth the three year wait.  Just a great game.  The last day works especially well.

Now, I like to offer up feedback that justifies that amount of time you put into the game.  So, I was going to back through it again, see what differences my choices could make, and point out any bugs that were missed.

This started by downloading the newest version, and I found a bug immediately...

Spoiler

The current version of the game SKIPS the opening cutscene, dumps Ken into the caves, and when you talk to Gary, you AUTOMATICALLY try to help him.

Hi Cogliostro,

Thanks for the kind words :)  It was a long process, but I really enjoyed it.  I was trying to turn out a product superior to the first two games.

That being said, I got some pie on my face when my most recent version of the game (with fixes) got through messed up.  I forgot to revert back to the main splash screen, and instead left the game to begin where I was troubleshooting (oops!).

The game online now is fixed, and there is a patched .exe file to resolve it too:

Thanks again!

TassieDevil, I am so sorry...  You are going to hate me...

The version you downloaded was broken.  I accidentally left that auto-skip portion in there jumping to a later point in the game while troubleshooting something.  (Fix-file is attached below without needing an entire re-download of the game, so don't worry.)

You aren't supposed to begin there.  But you DID solve the puzzle, the colors.  Sorry I didn't take color blindness into account when making the puzzle :(  To solve it, click the following:

Spoiler

Left Block : 3 Times
Middle Block : 2 Times
Right Block : 3 Times

Now, to fix the problem, and begin the game normally, please download the .exe file and overwrite the existing one.  Sorry again for the confusion :(

Note to anyone who downloaded the game over the last day - If you downloaded v1.10 during the brief period my brain stopped working, and when you begin the game, the very first thing it does is dump you into a cave, this was an error during one of my bug fixes.  Please download this modified exe file to run the game.  It fixes the problem without you needing to download the full 120mb game again.

This is ONLY if the version you have dumps you into a cave when you first begin the game.  It is fixed in the game download now, so it was only for a short time online.

Wait a sec...  Are you saying that when you begin the game the very first room you're in is the cave  puzzle room?

If so I might've left in a debug thng from the last fix I had to do...  Let me know.

I will be back on my pc in about 20 mins and can get you the panel code by clicks.

Thanks,

Bill

Amazing looking game.  I am looking forward to it :)

Just out of curiosity, do you do the art free-hand?  Pixel art?  Or do you use some more complicated method?

lol I put a lot of little things like that into the game.  Hidden little funny things and easter eggs :)

@Cogliostro:

I think you're just one step before that. There is a location where you can go.

Actually, you can go to the left or right one. :)

King's Quest 1, Space Quest 1, essemtially all the old Sierra games around the 1984ish timeframe.  I was a little kid, but my parents loved me using the computer (which is what I do for a living today, so a hearty thank-you to them).  I remember I was allowed to play Leisure Suit Larry for a brief time until my parents watched me playing one day in the den and decided it was a no-go :)

The game that really pressed a big foundation into video games for me though was Heroes Quest (then renamed Quest For Glory).  The RPG elements of that game really kicked it up a notch, and I fell in love with video games.

I liked the next generation of games as well, when graphics took that giant leap.  I am speaking of course of the late 80s / early 90s with games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.

WOW!You went pretty far coming up with those.Though I am not a bad person,i would love to experience the bad ending, seems very interesting...Multiple endings is a new cool thing to the series. You also seemed to move from the field of cryptozoology to the field of mythology to this game and also indrodused magical abilities to the character enriching the riddle variety and so the gameplay(like the hero's quest series).I miss the pistol though. If you had the pistol in the next game you could have a police-hero's quest blend...wow a dream game come true:)!!!I also liked the point system you had,i liked keeping track of my adventure and see how flawless my game would be,with all the alternative riddles and routes and staff, reminded me of old sierra games that i love so much.Hope that you will reintroduce it!I can't stop wondering what would the forth game be for!!!Looking forward for it!!!!!

I'm glad you liked the different endings.  I wanted something a bit different in there so the player could experience different resolutions to the story.  Besides, if they are a jerk and do mean things, why should everyone in the game love them, you know? :)

I didn't really think of the dynamic shift between games 1+2 and this new one, but I guess I did.  Some could argue though that the Faerie premise is cryptozoology as they haven't been DISPROVEN to exist :)

This game wasn't going to have player-useable magic in it at all until I took a break in May, 2009 to do Mr. Danger's Contest.  The game gave the player 1 magic ability, which I liked, so I borrowed it for this game.  I figured it would add some differentiation to the game, allowing some puzzles to be solved multiple ways (like the crates in the final scene of the game).  Plus now that the player knows those things, it will be more fun to do Game 4 :)

I removed the point system in this game because lots of people didn't like it :)  Maybe I'll have it as a toggle option in Game 4 so you can turn it on or leave it off as you want.  We've already started development on Game 4, so it is definitely coming.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Ok,thanks for the info finished the game!Really enjoyed, just a question i am curious:

Spoiler
so i guess i got the good ending cause i talked to the goats, but there is an alternative one,as we are informed at the end.At one point in the cave the satyr informed of an instrument that he layed in the music store as a trap for ken.I replayed the game via a savegame, just to see what kind of trap that was.But as my regular game i just refused to help the satyr-dude and he left and i just continued to have the instrument in my inventory,so i just continued my regular game witch was without the instrument.Has the alternative ending anything to do with the instrument?   Also is the good ending this:In the end the queen announced me faery friend cause i helped the pooka and i saw some "backstage" scenes of the game.
[close]

The ending credits sequence is the same no matter which ending you play.  It is just something different from the normal "credits-rolling" screen :)  The "instrument" is just to add additional clarification to the bad guys.  It is also a Leisure Suit Larry reference :)

The 3 endings can be had the following ways if you'd like to go back and play the game each way.

GOOD ENDING
------------------
Spoiler
This has you pronounced Faerie Friend at the end of the game.  You get this ending by asking the Phooka politely to leave when they are tormenting the flower shop.  Then, when you are at the guide-selection screen after you enter the Land of Youth, select the Wisp as the guide.  You will learn your abilities from the Seelie Court, and experience the full, good ending.
[close]

MEDIOCRE ENDING
-----------------------
Spoiler
This ending is accessible no matter what you do to the Phooka during the beginning of the game.  The end sequence with Cliona will differ a bit and she might be a bit nasty with you if you banish them using Turner's magic, but it is similar no matter how you do it.  The mediocre path is taken when at the guide-selection screen after you enter the Land of Youth.  Select the faerie woman instead of the wisp, and you will take this ending-branch.  You will not experience any of the Seelie Court, and learn your magic in a different way.
[close]

BAD ENDING
----------------
Spoiler
This has you pronounced Enemy of the Faeries, and a death sentence is placed on you :)  This ending is accessible only if you use the vial on the Phooka on Night 2.  Once you throw the vial at them, command Turner to use his magic to banish them from this realm.  This opens up a separate dialogue option with the guy who pretends to be Gary in the cave when you're traversing the Path.  You can select to go with him, and work for the Unseelie Court.  The game ends much differently.
