Also forgot to mention two little bugs not serious though :

Spoiler
a)if you ask in the first act the punk dude in the music store about rumors one of the posible Answers is that strange lights are in the garden behind the pub and ken writes it in the notes.Later in the night ken sees the a light by the fountain and also makes a note...so in the laptop there is exactly the same note about the strange lights two times.b)after you talk to the satyr if you leave and get back to the same room the dialogue repeates itself(without the satyr).
[close]

Thanks for the heads-up.  I will fix the dual-note issue on the next release of the game.  I already fixed the repeating dialogue issue with the most recent incarnation.  Its amazing how little things make it though the beta testing, especially with the super-thorough job the team did.

Thanks!

Bill -

That's a good touch for Gary.

Now...
Spoiler

Stuck in the caves.  Got past Clef.  Wander aimlessly.  Anytime I accidentally backup I repeat the conversation with Clef.  What's the path through the maze?  Or is there somethign I'm supposed to do?

[close]

It isn't random, there is a specific way you're supposed to do this puzzle:

Tip 1:
Spoiler
Remember Cliona telling you the story of Oisis in her shop?
[close]

Tip2:
Spoiler
There is a picture in her shop, on the wall, which might shed some light on this.  It tells the story of Oisis, and his traversing the Path to the Land of Youth.
[close]

Spoiler:
Spoiler
The picture on the wall has red letters for the beginnings of each word.  These correspond to the path through the maze.  U = up, D = Down, R = Right, L = left.
[close]

Step-By-Step Instructions:
Spoiler
Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Up, Right, Up, Left, Left, Left, Up, Right, Up.
[close]

I will go back and look at Gary's scripting.  He shouldn't be in the cave after the initial conversation with him.  You might've found a glitch that made it past the beta testers and myself.

**EDIT** - Yup, you sure did.  I fixed the script and put another new version online.  Thanks!

Thanks,

Bill

Nice game so far!I came across a bug though and dont kmow if i can manage:

Spoiler
So after i killed the green dude when i escaped from my cell(used telekinisis on crates) the bad dark elf appeared(cant seem to remember her name) and a battle starts,if i use telekinisis on the chunk of rock on the ground, game says with a message to me that i tossed the rock back to vaector...and i wait with the clock icon without anything happening.This also happens if i use telekinisis on the rock before i kill the hobgoblin.Seems like the rock is used later or do i have to use the rock to pass the elf and so i am at a bug-dead point?
[close]

WOW!  You found something that the testers and I both missed.  I will fix that, thanks for the heads-up.

It, unfortunately, is not the problem here.  That thing you mentioned in the spoiler text above, is actually for later in the game.

For this encounter, you're thinking the right way.

Hint :
Spoiler
Use a different spell on the elf.
[close]

Blatant spoiler:
Spoiler
Teleport into her.  2 bodies can't occupy the same space.  Splat!
[close]

**EDIT**  -  I just put version 1.10 up on my server.  You can no longer click the rock before you're supposed to, which eliminates the bug.

Thanks!

Yes, like Leon pointed out there.

I didn't want it to be brain-deadeningly simple to get the roses (like talking to a florist).  And being as how Gary is very "metal", with the black eyeliner and spiked hair, I figured that rose would be more 'his style'.

Oh, and the rationalle behind the missing piece of evidence mentioned earlier in this thread (not mentioning it by name because it would be a spoiler), that abandoned warehouse is where one of the bodies was found.  Looks like the local police missed an important piece of evidence.

Thanks to all the testers who helped out :)

Also, I just uploaded a new version (1.01) to the server.  It turns out when I spell-checked the game, it put in MS Word apostrophes in some of the scenes in the end-game-credits.  Since AGS (or at least the version I used) can't parse these, they show up as squares in the text.

v1.01 has replaced these MS Word apostrophes with standard text apostrophes.  No more blocks in the text.

It also removed the defeated bad guy who is still there in the end-credits if you play through through on the "good" or "mediocre" endings.

No other content or gameplay change, so it isn't super-urgent if you've already downloaded the initial release v1.0.

The Murran Chronicles: Episode 3 - Lifedrinker of Landsdowne

After three years of development, the latest chapter in the Murran Chronicles series is finally out!

*UPDATE* - Lifedrinker was reviewed and recommended in September 2011 Following Freeware on Adventure Gamers.com : Link - http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,1375/p,2

Plot/Storyline
-------------------

Shortly after your adventure with the mystery in Montana, you are given a case involving mysterious deaths in Landsdowne, Massachusetts. The bodies of two men in their early twenties have been found recently, and according to local authorities both dead men looked to be in their seventies when their bodies were found. There is no explanation as both men were thought to be healthy, and in the prime of their lives. Add to this the odd reports of a pack of strange animals roaming the town at night, and you have your work cut out for you. Is there some sort of vampire creature on the loose as some of the town rumors suggest? What is behind the rumors of odd goat-like creatures that have been seen after nightfall? Are the two related? You are thrown into the midst of an age long battle between good and evil as you investigate the case of the Life Drinker of Landsdowne.

About The Game
------------------------

Life Drinker of Landsdowne is in 640x480 resolution, running in Hi-Color mode.   This game is more than twice as long as the second game, and contains much more content, many more characters: some with dynamic locations, and 3 different endings depending on the paths and choices you make as the player.

This third game in the series is the first to not feature the police cruiser as your primary mode of transportation.  Dust off those walking shoes, there is much to see in the town of Landsdowne.

This game will also feature something new to the Murran Chronicles: day and night cycles.  Explore the town during the day, and return to places as night for a whole new look at them.

Specs:

Total Playable/Interactable Rooms : 45 (More than 1/2 of them with Day/Night versions)
Additional cutscene/other Rooms : 23

We are Hollywood  :=

poc, it's not about that. It's about getting angry over a 2 cup rating.

Oh, you are so, so, so right on that one.  I am getting my capslock and my 1(!) key ready for this sucker.

Also, I wasn't mentioning McCarthy, because I didn't want to spur Calin into action.  That would make the odds insurmountable.

I completely forgot about Gemini Rue, I was only looking at the games still pending on the horizon.

Thank GOD that Ben isn't more active, or I might think about Hari Kari.  ;)

Excuse me while I go sit in the corner and sulk.  :'(

Cat, you are right, at least mine will be in the full-length category :)

PS: Sorry for all the emoticons, I just realized this post is plagued with them.  So one more :  :o

I had a parallyzing thought a few moments ago that I had to share.  My blood ran cold and my heart fluttered.

I realized that after 3 years of development, my new game is about ready to be released...

But so is the new Blackwell game, as is the final Ben Jordan (both of which I will, or course, be playing).

I was hoping to stand a small glimmer of a chance at an AGS award this year.  Well, better luck next time :)  I hear 2015 is going to be a good year!

Thanks for putting it together.  Your script was much more advanced than mine was :)

Well done!

My ignorance in the field of streaming things online has bothered me for ages but I've been too lazy to post about it. There's quite a lot I want to know, since I find it all very fascinating.

1.) When a video streams, what exactly is going on? Is the computer simply taking bits of information at a time and storing them temporarily as they play, or is it actually relying entirely on another computer and just acting as a medium in which to show you?

2.)Similar to the question above, how does...well, everything else work? As far as pictures and such... when you access a website with pictures and text, are the pictures and text temporarily saved to your computer while you view them? Or does the explorer simply show you pictures and text stored on another computer without the need to temporarily store them? Does this process vary depending on the file medium?

Sorry for packing so many questions into one post but my fundamental misunderstanding of how the internet works has been driving me crazy lately.

1)  The data is sent as usual, but in sequential order.  This means the software can interpret it as it comes in, and play it live.  It doesn't have to download the entire thing to use it.

2) Anything you load is saved to your "Temporary Internet Files", a folder on your computer.  The browser uses that to display the site you're looking at.  If there is no update since last time you visited, it just reads that data instead of retransferring it again.

So yeah, nothing is ever done in a web browser without being downloaded to your PC first.  Unless I am missing some new technology, but I don't think so :)

Actually, I personally think we could do with a game template for this left/right click interface. Searching the forums (when the search function isn't broken... :P) only gets you a very old Broken Sword template, which I used for Downfall but found it extremely old and buggy and it didn't really work well with different game resolutions.

   I'm guessing the reason for there not being one is that most AGSers who are better at scripting can whip one out in five minutes... but it just would be so nice to have it handy, or rather- to have an ultimate version that works 100% bug free, with a proper inventory and hotspot labels displayed. I, personally, would make more short games if it didn't mean starting everything from scratch...

  Verbcoin is all right... but I'm not a great fan of it. And the Sierra-based one hasn't aged well at all, what with all the cursors changing and fiddling around...

  I apologize for mentioning it in this specific topic- I hope you don't mind poc301. I just needed to get this off my chest;)

No problem whatsoever.  I'd be glad to help out.  I literally began a new game (sierra-style original interface), and did NOTHING but the Left/Right interface code.  When I get to my other computer, I will box it up as a template and make it available.  I'll post a link to it so people can grab it.  Won't be until Monday though :(

For 2) please note you can put the script right in the dialog now.  dialog_request() is pretty much deprecated.

Did not now!  Thanks for the input :)

Hi Arjunaz,

1) To move the character, you want to use cCharacterName.Walk(x,y,blockingvalue);

This will make them walk to the X, Y coordinate, and blocking or no blocking is whether you want to make the game wait until they get there.

Then you can use player.ChangeRoom(##); to make the player change to a new room number.

2) You want to set up the dialog with the yes and no as options to click on.  Then for the script you want to use:

run-script ##
return

This will run the script # when that dialog is clicked.  The script can be entered in the game's global script under dialog options.

3) To make images, you just create them and import them into the game, and set them as objects.  You can assign them views and set the animations to run when needed by using object.Animate command.

Thanks,

Bill

So I am just beginning to learn AGS 3.2 after many many many years of using 2.7.  I like the new setup, it seams much easier to use.

My problem is figuring out how to do some basic stuff, since the Forum Search function is broken.

I began a new game using the "Verb Coin" template.

I want to setup my game to allow the hotspots and objects to have a single cursor.  When the target is left-clicked, I want one set of code to run (walk to).  When the right button is clicked on the mouse, I want another set of code to run (use, look at, etc).

I figure I need to use standard code like :

if (button == eMouseLeft) {
// Walk-to script
 }

else if (button == eMouseRight) {
// Activate script
}

But I have no idea in this new version where to put it.  When I go into the properties of the hotspots/objects in AGS 3.2, there is a line for descriptions in the @OVERHOTSPOT@ line for the various things, but I am not sure how to set this up.

Thanks,

Bill

Sooo looking forward to playing this.

Cameliosso made a point I am curious about too.  Why did you change up the background style?  I think the comparison to "Beavis & Butthead" art style is kinda funny, but I kinda see how it does look similar.

I really LIKE the new style, unlike Cameliosso, and was just wondering what brought it about.  It has a more 'homey' feel about it.

Thanks!
