Thanks Dual :)

Also, just so people know, there are 2 completely different endings, and one of the endings has 2 branches differentiating how to go about getting the ending.

Glad you got it :)  I wanted to make it a bit different.  Something out of the ordinary as far as music is concerned.  I tried to make it as un-irritating as possible, but some of the rooms music could potentially grate on you if you listen to it for long periods of time :)  The little drumbeat one in the subterraneous areas for instance.  I went "tss tss" into my microphone and then made it loop. :)

Awesome Leon, I hope you enjoy it :)

I am getting back to Murran Chronicles 3 tomorrow.  I wanted to take the rest of the day off :)

Mr. Danger's Contest

This is an entry to the May, 2009 MAGS competition.  I took some time off from working on Murran Chronicles #3 to do this light hearted investigative drama/sci-fi/comedy mixture, and really enjoyed it.

STORY :

You are James McManus, a loner.  You receive an invitation from a mysterious Mr. Danger to come and compete in a competition against other 'special people' to inherit his millions of dollars.  Not one to pass up that much money, you head to his secluded mansion.  Once there, things quickly turn deadly, and you must not only be the winner of the competition, but you must also try to figure out who is killing the competition before they do away with you.

INFO:

Mr. Danger's Contest is in 640x400 resolution (natively 320x200, but my fonts look better in the larger resolution).

And yes, all those awesome sound effects and all the music were all made by me and my trusty PC microphone :)

Alrighty, my contribution to the MAGS competition is online and ready to be played!  I am making a thread in Completed Games with more info, but here is the brief:

Very nice, looks like something kinda inspired by World of Warcraft.  Especially the mounted green dude on the wolf.

Just because... I want to throw out there that my game is 2/3 of the way finished.  This is going to be my first MAGS entry, and I hope 2 things:

1) I hope for a few games so there is competition.
2) I hope people like my game :) hehe

Yay OneDollar!

It was a good game, so congrats on winning.  Do a good premise for next month's game.  I might just put my game on hold for a few days to enter.

Moody: I LOVE your forum avatar picture.   Just wanted to say that :)

Dual: Yours is kind of scary.  Its like a transvestite Strawberry Shortcake with 'roid rage or something..

Yeah, I am going to leave them rounded.  I looked at examples of rounded and flat bottomed clouds in pixel art type backgrounds, and the flat ones do only look good in cartoony settings.  I am looking out my office window right now, and the clouds in the sky are all wispy, rounded and look like a messy airbrush tool was let loose on the sky.

Reminds me of a Queen song...  Ahhh..

I will add the flat bottoms to the clouds.  I hadn't thought of that, but it's very true.

Thanks!

I might go ahead and do that.

I forgot about the shadows.  Gunna redo them really quickly.

Thanks!

That is pretty cool, thanks :)

I don't have Gimp (I know it's free), instead I use MS Paint, Paint.net for layers and ArtGem for lightening/darkening.  My ArtGem is unregistered so I can't save anything (I screenshot it and edit the captured screen in MS Paint to get it useable).  Artgem unregistered also doesnt allow more than 2 layers, thus paint.net :)

Thanks,

Bill

How about this cloud setup.  I changed opacity and darkened and wisped some of it..  I think it looks much better.  I think the scene is about done!

Thanks,

On a kitchen sink, some of them have the spray nozzles next to the hot/cold faucets.  You know, where you pull it out and its a nozzle on a hose you can use to spray dishes down..  Well, I know from experience you can wrap a rubber band around the press-bar thing to activate it.  The next time someone turns the sink on, BLAMMO, they are sprayed with water.

Someone mentioned The Office (US version) above.  One of the other things Jim did to Dwight was put all his office supplies in the vending machine, and gave him a bag of nickles for him to buy it all back with.

He also put Andy's cell phone in the ceiling so that when it rang he went nuts trying to find it..

Finally, when I was a senior in high school about 12 or 13 years ago, we used to watch movies two times a week in English class (my teacher was lazy).  One day I brought in a universal remote and sat at my desk programming it until I got it to work on the VCR and television.  It almost gave the teacher a stroke because he got so mad.  Finally figured out what was causing it and told whoever was doing it to stop.  I didn't, but I never got caught, so it was okay.

My dad likes to tell stories about how he and his friends used to lay down on the side of a busy road when they were kids, acting like they got hit by a car, and when someone would get out to help them, they would get up and run into the woods.  Not that mean, but invonvenient..

So I have just done my first cloud.  I am okay with it, but I would appreciate some comments/critiques.  They look a little .. Un-fluffy I guess.  I tried using an airbrush tool to make them but they looked way too much like balls of cotton in the sky.  So I ended up using a solid bubble with rounded bumps and then darkening them to add some depth.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I am changing the grass some, making it a flat single color and trying to add some texture to it..

As for the sky..  I did some google searching for "afternoon sky" and got a ton of pictures.  They all show lighter skies by the horizon, and darker up in the higher atomosphere :

True, some aren't as big of a color change as my gradient, but some are.  I dunno what to do with the sky..  I do like the gradient, but.. Hmm..

**EDIT** I just tried several different shades, and with the sky darker overall, it looks less sunny and bright, something I do not want to do.  I think I will be leaving the gradient alone in the sky. :)  Time to add some clouds!

How should I do the grass or sky then without a gradient?  The sky I assumed would NEED one, since the colors do fade naturally in the real sky..  The grass I was kinda at a loss about..

The original image was a bastardized photorealistic pic I had before I re-did my art style for the game.  It was used for influence ideas on what to do.  I changed it up a bit to make it a little nicer and fit the game a little better.

Thanks so much for the suggestions.

I adjusted the tree on the right, the bush in the middle area, fixed the fence, adjusted the lines in the sidewalk, adjusted saturation/brightness.

I still see a problem with the fence I need to work on, the one post is a little off..  I also am going to work on the shadows a bit and work on adding clouds (I use paint.net, so I do have layers), but this is what I've fixed so far based on suggestions.

Thanks again guys!
