I guess you could have Max's head go down a bit (when hit by the rock). After that, him making a bad face or have his eyes like a X...

Critics' Lounge / Re:Boiler Room background.

I quite like the boiler machine itself and haven't a problem with the pipes either. I really like it and also the perspective is almost perfect... Maybe some dials or levers would make it even better...?
The only thing that bothers me, apart from what was said - shadows and less cleanliness -  is that the colours are not to my personal taste,  maybe a bit on the greyish side or have a  more metalic (and rusty?) look...

Here's a pretty close to final interior scene...

However, I am not sure if the contrast between the two parts of the room is too exagerated with the moss and all that... Also, I am needing some suggestions in terms of objects to put there (only the card board boxes and wood planks are insufficient I think) ... The ceiling (and the colums) textures is also a bit strange but I didn't have better ideas

In any case, thanks for other C&C...

Also, two other WIP scenes - only I don't know which of the walls looks best...

The worst thing I can think of an adventure game is it having no plot! Apart from that, my gripes are for those darn type of puzzles like:

slider puzzles (or worse, timed slider puzzles)
illogical labyrinths (even logical labyrinths, if too complex)
mechanical puzzles (like Myst's)
dying!
(although Tex Murphy's games has many of the above and they still qualify in my favorite games)

or

bad dialogue trees (I didn't like Mystery of the Druids', although after playing the second time, I thought there weren't that bad - in fact, I quite liked the game when I played it the second time)

I'll say it again, no plot (just puzzles or going from one place to another to get stuff to make something that some character asked for - although I can perfectly accept that in short games)

or

many, many things from my favorite Bad game: The City of Lost CHildren (amazing graphics and ambiance, but NO PLOT, terrible pixel hunting, absolutely no purpose in the game, and, really, no ending!!!!)

General Discussion / Re:What is wrong with me
Fri 10/10/2003 15:56:41
I have kind of the same problem - although I stopped buying games that often (at the golden age of adventure games I used to buy 4 or 5 games a month - but I played those)...

My only problem is AGS, once I got into it, I only played Syberia and half a dozen AGS games and replayed some 3 or 4 old games... that in two years time - That's a poor average since I usually played more than  20 games per year...

I guess you are right, I did what I was wanting to do with just two script lines using GetRegionAt...

Nice work with that robot!!!!

It's doubly effective since it is (at least, it looks) simple but it conveys all the "right" things - the expression, the pose, all very well done ...

Great, really!!!! - simple modelling, great effect!!!

And thanks for the advice on the Poser book-

Nice work!!!
Seems one of those human dogs of Vershollen auf Lost Island - although your style is more polished, so it looks even better...
Concerning animations, maybe he should bend his head and shoulders forward a bit, him being a dog, I mean... but it could lead to make him look too much of a werewolf...

Poser shouldn't be that bad if (talented) people can do characters like those.... Well, even Steven Stahlberg doesn't denigrate (is that an english word?) Poser as he himself has seen worthwhile art made with Poser...

From my own experience with Poser - I haven't been able to do ANYTHING with it even having it for almost a year, so I simpathise with LGM, although I am in a deeper hole than he is... - so I'm doubly awed by Igor's work specially considering that he's only PLAYING with it...
Anyway, Igor's talent is no surprise!

Electric hare's work is awesome too!
BTW, I didn 't get to see Migs's...

Currently, if I'm not mistaken there are
four location types
0 nothing, GUI or inv
1 hotspot
2 char
3 object
would it be possible to have new ones? like 4 for region? or even subdivide the type 0 to separate nothing, GUI and inv, although this could mean trouble with "legacy" games...

BTW, how do you deal with taxes, receipts, and the accountability business (especially, because most of your games will be exported)?

Ok, thanks - I'll try to use a ListBox (in any case it will be a good exercise, since I never used a ListBox)

Sorry to intrude...

Hi martijn,

did you get the game all translated to english?
I was stuck in the lift since I didn't understand what Susan said when sheentered...

...and that makes 3 excellent AGS games in a row I played!

Thank God (well, not God, really, but my job that at present allows me to do nothing but playing games...!) that I restarted playing AGS games.

What were the buggy bits? I didn't find any!

I did something a bit similar (if somewhat modest in scope) to what you mentioned in my previous game, "recording" stuff on the protagonist's laptop, but the problem was that I recorded them as objects (the objects were sprites, of course)...
I would be less worksome to be able to record it as text directly in AGS (instead of writing text in Word, then convert it to bmp and then import the sprite to AGS)  and be able to read it in a notepad-type mode...

I was wanting to have a log - available during play - that recorded the dialogues (all the dialogs, some ofthe dialogs, a brief description of the dialogs, it doesn't matter) so that I could option-off all dialogs topics once they were spoken but let the players review past dialogs (without leaving the game - that's the hard part, I guess, since I would have to have some kind of text editor, something like notepad, that would allow up-and-down scrolling).

(I've been "playing" with File I/O functions but, so far, they don't seem to be the answer I look for)...

Anyone ever done something like it? Anyone has any clue on what steps should i pursue?
