It should be a really tight crop top.
Maybe pre-stretched out, in all the right places.

As an example, Larry Vales was made without any scripting.

People still remember Larry Vales, right?

I wasn't aware of that.
I'd be pretty cheesed if someone was selling my games.
On the other hand, I would pay for AGS without blinking.

The school I went to for design just started a video game program also.
Grumble.
GRUMBLE.
GRUMBLE
Maybe once I finish paying them the 10 grand I still owe them now I can think about giving them more of my money.

You've got to realise that there's a difference between protecting your copyright and giving something away for free.

I can make games and give them away, that doesn't mean you can then turn around and sell it or do whatever with them. I still own the copyrights.

Anyways, I have no problem with abandonware. If you can't bother to make it available for me to buy, then tough. It's not profitable enough to start selling again? BS. There are other alternatives. I'd pay a couple of bucks for a working downloadable version for gods sake.
Once again, it's because of corporate blahblahblah. I'd be willing to bet the original creators of the games would love to have them available to fans, but of course, Joe Fatcat CEO doesn't "get it".
Like every other creative industry, video games have been taken over by boring old men with accounting degrees who were too old to play games when Atari came out.
They don't give a crap about me, and I don't give a crap about them.

You dug your grave now deal with it.

I can see a situation where, say, King Graham falls off the cliff, and then rather than dying, he grabs on to a rock on his way down. Now the player has to pass a small puzzle to climb back up to proceed.

You're still punishing the player for making a mistake (whether falling off a cliff is a mistake or not will not be debated here), but the player still has a chance to fix his mistake and is still involved in the outcome.

There are two issues with this though.

a) Will the player not bother, and instead just restore his game anyways, rendering the whole thing pointless?

b) Will the player see this as too much of an annoyance and get bored and frustrated with it?

The other option, as discussed, is having these mistakes open up complete new paths in the story. Personally I think it's a great idea, but as a guy who makes games, I can firmly say that hiding that much of my work from the player when it could potentially go towards other things in the game doesn't appeal to me much. If I had the time/resources, then well, it'd be a whole different story. Ideally, this could open up some interesting discussion amongst your players, and some fun interaction with them.

I'm still all for easter eggs and little useless jokes and stuff, just because they're fun. Heck, no one noticed one of the ones I did for Rode Quest 2, but it still amuses me for some stupid reason.   ;D

No no, you just struck a chord with me, that's all.

Something that interests me, re-reading Andail's doc, is people's reactions to the outside world as a result of their depression.

I've always been the type who thinks of the effect my actions will have on others. I weigh the consequences of everything I do, sometimes overly so. People have told me.

Now, where Andail speaks about his friend and sister becoming overly sensitive to outside forces, I found myself becoming more and more bitter and indifferent. I really stopped caring about anyone else around me. The worst thing is that I felt even more terrible because of it. Other people's opinions became unimportant to me. I avoided meeting new people as a rule. I was like that bitter old man that the neighborhood kids run away from.

It's strange that our complete outlook on life can be totally disrupted and flipped around like that.

Translation: Because of Disney, copyrights now last until the sun expires.

It's actually an interesting story, because the original Steamboat Willy cartoon was on the verge of becoming public domain. It's a shame too, because I was soooo ready to start production on Steamboat Willy: Special Edition, with new voice overs by such famous people as me and my drunk friends.

That was a great post DG.
I've also been going through a rough year of depression, and only recently I decided to get the fuck up and do something about it.
I'm working two jobs now. It sucks. I hate working 13-14 hours a day, plus weekends, but I need it. The extra work I'm doing will lead to something bigger in the long run. Annoyance now, payoff later.
I'm also taking a new apartment in January. Can I afford it? Barely. But you know what? Moving back in with my parents has been too hard on me, not because of them, but because it's made me feel useless. That may not make sense, but it's how I feel.

The point is, no one is going to help you out of a depression. You have to take stock of your situation and figure out what you need to do to get out of it, and then DO IT.

I don't know what the guy is saying, but damn, that was great.

And, yet again, I must say that Mods, you are out of your mind.

Ok, so lately I've been sending a lot of gifs and jpgs through email for work, the trouble I've been having is that when they reach the person on the recieving end, either half of the image is missing, or it's all garbled, or various other retardities.
Anyone know what's going on here?

Very nice.
While I doubt I'd be able to attend, I'd probably be interesting in sponsoring the event, monetarily and all that.

I'd suggest having a corner set aside with info in the different engines available, if the designers are so inclined... I'm sure a lot of attendees won't know about them and would be interested.

You should also try to get some of our new friends *cough* interested in it somehow. You'd need to show some proof of the seriousness of it all though. Maybe a nice press kit.

You know, this could be useful. Granted, becoming a football player while unconcious isn't that useful, but imagine if you could become something really cool, like Indiana Jones? I could go for that.

What's a game? Yahtzee?
We'll see who's laughing when I sick my pirhana poodles on him.
#438
Yeah, but I'd be surprised if he had me in his address book. I don't think I've ever really spoken to him.

I think LeChuck did it.

Since two days ago I've been getting 70 emails a day of a virus.
You know the kind where they come from a real email address, but the email itself is blank except for an attachment?
Anyways, out of all these emails I only recognize one address.

yahtzee@lanceandeskimo.com

I don't know what it means, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing.
Still interesting though.
