Hints & Tips / Re: out of order
Tue 10/08/2004 21:57:53
Wrong forum.Ã,  Out of Order is a SLUDGE game.

But, since I'm in a happy mood,Ã,  I'll help you out anyway:

Spoiler

If my memory serves me correct, the password is something like "U472BMT", or soemthing like that.Ã,  It dosen't matter.Ã,  The point is, it's a string of letters and numbers.Ã,
If you can recall the newspaper that Urban Leapold gave to you, on the bottom of the paper, there is a short article, arranged in that fashion, with the letters and numbers.

In the office, behind the postcard on the board, there is a sentance.Ã,  I think it was "You force heaven to be empty."Ã,  that corresponds to "U472BMT".

And the password dosen't randomize, the username does.

I hope that was an OK answer, and that I understood you corectly.

By the way, that very puzzle is my favorite puzzle in an adventure game that I've played so far.

Aah, O.O.O is such a great game.Ã,  I wish I was playing it again...

ByeÃ,  :)

You get sick of it after a while.  :)

I figured out the "frosting conspiracy" when I was 10.  The feed it to us and feed it to us and then you lose your will to be different.  There are people, though, who saw the inevitable ( and inedible) doom, and wen't off to start Hot TOpic.  hehe, just kidding.

I stopped eating frosting when I looked at the lables and saw what's inside em.
You can't eat anything here anymore without getting Trans Fats and Hydrogenated Oils!  And the stuff that tastes the best doesn't even have them.

I read someplace that Europe dosen't have them.  Is that true?

Anyway.  Glad to hear you had fun on your trip.  :)

2002:

Ending spoilers to "Signs"

Spoiler

We go see "Signs", and when we all come out of the theater:

RTF: Did you like the movie?

Friend: Yes

RTF: I hated it.  The ending killed it.

Friend: OMYGOD! That was the best movie EVER!  How couldn't you like it?

RTF: Everything was so loosely thrown together.  I mean, the ending really was a few minutes long.  It was chucked together.

Friend: NO! NO!  I hate you!  It was scary!

RTF: Sure there was suspense, but the ending sucked.  A small reference to the MIddle East is how they end it. I wanna know how the ailens gt away!  And nothing made sense.  There was no reason for any of this!

Friend: There was a reason!  That everything happens for a reason!  Like his wife said "swing away", and she didn't know that there were ailens coming! And...

And she went on like this for a while...

RTF:  Alright, whatever, you win.  The entire plot was based on vauge coincedences.

Friend:  Fine!

Then, for some reason, she was mad at me for the rest of the month...

I was going to enter, but then I saw Oz entered, so I was like, "there go my chances of winning.  Right down the drain..."  Hehe.

Oz, your entry is awesome!  I should burn it and sell it as my own.

OK, so I did enter.  Here we go:

It would go with more of a  thriller-type spy game.
Don't say anything about that lazy vibraphone in the end.  I don't know why it's like that.

Enjoy!

PS:  Turn the speakers up.  It's a little low.

Very nice track.
I'd suggest using it for title-cutscene music.  Like you said, it would probably be a little annoying for the player to hear a lead instrument during gametime.
But it's perfect for a title screen.
Looking forward to hearing more music from you.  :)

Wow, those graphics are really nice.

Let is know when you need beta testers.  :)

Wow!  Those backgrounds look great!  I really like the graphical style, which is one of the first things I look at when I start a new game.

I can beta test, too .  :)

General Discussion / Re: Are YOU in a band?
Tue 03/08/2004 22:24:33
I have been playing for 6 years, but it's impossible to find band members at my age.

I was in 2 bands, the first one was going great except they all moved to Alaska within 2 weeks (no joke).
My second band expirience started in about September last year, and ended in November.    We just couldn't play a song together.  We learned one song in 2 weeks, played it at the school talent show, and we thought everything sounded great.  However, the following factors contributed to our demise.

1) The other guitarist started focusing on what our Demo CD would look like, instead of practicing.

2) Our bassist sucked, and he wasn't loud enough.

3) Our drummer turned into a dickhead.

4) They only like modern rock, and anything else to them is crap.  So screw doing any other styles of music.
I like modern rock, but I like jazz, funk and classic rock a whole lot more, so I really wanted to encorperate the genres.

Then we got into a fight, and the drummer became a dickhead and I forgot if the bassist is in existance any more.
The other guitarist is still my friend, but we havent seen each other in a while.

Hopefully when I get into High School, I'll find some kids who have appreciacion for all genres of music.

Hopefully...

The Story

OK,  something hit me last night.  It was the best idea for a game in a while (maybe not the best, but it was pretty good).  Anyway, I think about the plot and locations and I thought up some good puzzles.  I was very motivated.
  But I forgot that I had to do the most tedious part of all-  the walkcyles.

The request

I'm looking for someone to do my walkcyles.  Before you go "Rtf is a idiot if he thinks I can do all his character art", think again.  I'll be doing all the art and animation, except for the walkcyles.

The Specs

All I'm asking for is a black-outlined, north, south, and east walk animation.  I don't want any charcter art, just the outline.  A template.
My game is:

-Lo Res.
-Hi-Color.
-320 x 200
- 16 bit.

And I want the outlines to be done on a canvas size of 40 x 88, give or take a couple pixels based on the needs of the animation.

The Benefits Package

-Name in the credits
-Recognition.
-A very happy releasethefrogs
-Automatic Beta Testing slot (unless you don't want to)

The Contact Info

You can PM me, or email me at guitardude10293@cox.net

The Conclusion

Remember-  I am all motivated to start the game.  The only thing in my way is the tedium that is walkcyles.  If no one helps me out here, my busy self will be forced to do them, possible ruining an otherwise good game.

Thanks in advance :)

I'll Download it 1st thing tommorow morning!  :)

If you need a little help with programming, you can PM me.  I won't program your entire game, but I could do maybe about 3-5 max things that you wouldn't feel like doing yourself.

Advanced Technical Forum / Character Regions
Tue 27/07/2004 18:46:08
Hi.
Another question.

Is it possible to have seperate regions of a character.

For example, I have a character, and I want it so when another character collides with him in a certain location of the sprite, a certain variable will be changed.
Follow?

Thanks  :)

Hi.

Is there a special function for mouse wheel support?
Something like:

IsWheelScrolling()

In my game, I'm making it so you could scroll EGO up and down using the mouse wheel, as well as the keyboard,

Thanks

Off topic story:

One time I went to a mainly vegetarian place for dinner.  I saw a Turkey Burger on the menu.

  Turkey Burger
   Our delicious turkey burger with the finest free-range meat available.  No hormones added.  Comes with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, veganaise, and fries.

Read the preceeding paragraph carefully, and you will see what's odd about it.

I have a question-  it's kindof off the topic, and a little newb-ish, but I have been curious.

  If animations and movements don't work if you don't add a Wait() or use a blocking function, then why are they there?  Is there some awesome purpose that I should know about?

Thanks

<excuses>
Near the end I'm playing far up the neck on an acoustic guitar.  My hand cramps up, so it sounds bad.

http://members.cox.net/guitardude10293/tehs.wav

Sorry it's a wav file.  My encoder crapped out on me.

Next:  Kinda different.
                       Make a MIDI of a popular song,

  Example that I did a while ago. (System of a Down)

Well, I was supposed to make this script for another forum member who needed help, but I guess I need some help too.  :P

It's a script for an interface like Perils of Poom.  (Left click on nothing: walk to.  Left Click on something: Interact.  Right click on anything: Look

int overhotspot;

__________________________________________

function repeatedly_execute() {
  // put anything you want to happen every game cycle here
  if ((overhotspot == 0) && (GetHotspotAt(mouse.x, mouse.y)) || (GetCharacterAt(mouse.x, mouse.y)) || (GetObjectAt(mouse.x, mouse.y))){
//if the mouse is over a hotspot, object, or character

    overhotspot = 1;
    }
  else{ //if the mouse isn't over a hotspot, object, or character
    overhotspot = 0;
  }
}

function on_mouse_click(int button) {
  if (IsGamePaused() == 1) {
    // Game is paused, so do nothing (ie. don't allow mouse click)
  }
  else if (button==LEFT) {
       if (overhotspot == 1){
      if (GetCursorMode() == MODE_USE){
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_USE);
     }
   else if(GetCursorMode() == 4){
     ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, 4);
     SetCursorMode(MODE_USE);
     }
   }
   else if(overhotspot == 0){
     ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_WALK); //This is what isn't working
     }
  }
  else if (button==RIGHT) {  //Look at the thing.
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_LOOK);
    }
  }

The problem is that when I left-click on nothing, where I'm supposed to walk, nothing happens.(if you were reading the comments, you'd be way ahead of me  ;)  )

Everything else works perfectly.
