General Discussion / Re:I R NUTS!

I'm getting all my nifty one-liners from dreams I have. Last night for example I had the most f*cked-up dream in a long time.

And I _gotta_ use some of the dialogs from it.   ;D

I hope AGS 2.7 comes with a voice mode; Make all the code by not actually typing it but say it instead. Wouldn't that be soooo cool?

Well...obviously there MIGHT be some bugs that need to be fixed in SCI Studio...but otherwise it runs fine & I am sure that it must have been a programming error.

Whatever you say dude.

Anyway. I hope your games will be great and may you benefit from their success for a long time. Live long and prosper dude, you're a real comedian.   :D

If anyone has any thoughts on this big announcement, then please respond. Now...as for a release date to this game...well, you might wanna wait about 5-8 months, before asking! Then, we will talk release dates!

Oh my God this guy is funny. Give him a balloon for christ sake!   ;D

I mean, if people draw away from this program, then should 3.0 be the last Version update...

Even if the world ends tomorrow, and the sky comes tumbling down on our heads I can't imagine anyone "drawing away" from AGS. And an issue like the end of the world is pretty serious, mind you.   :o

A Red Dwarf game would be awesome!   :D

I think you should do it.

It says that you love both,  you think that AGS is a great engine, and CJ is the creator of said engine. So your anger is the product of your love.

This is so mature and wonderfully written I think I'm gonna cry.   :'(

Surely if you like the part about getting drunk then you ARE getting drunk therefore the other stuff doesn't matter? ;)

No, I liked the idea of getting drunk instead of sitting by the computer like the hollow soul I am and trying to do something useful.   ;D

yes. you cant force people to not use something on one day and think its a funny joke.
its a practical jokes if anything, and they're not so funny.

I'm beginning to think that you are the practical joke, dude.  ::)  I tried to start AGS and got the practical joke-message too. When I read it I got more tempted to grab a couple of beers with my friends than just sit around and point 'n' click.

In a way CJ saved my whole evening, he saved my very soul and damn that beer tasted good!   ;)

I was wondering how you go about looking for collaborators for a project, or indeed hand off your ideas or 'pitch' to a group already into designing adventure games.

Collaborators? We don't need no stinkin' collaborators!

I am working on a game that probably will be the best adventure game ever created and when it's released I'm going to shine in the glory of infinite success.

And I'm definitely not sharing it with any collaborators, they're just in the way of my Vision<tm>.    ;)

I launched the new version of AGS on my mum's computer and got this message:

"What on Earth are you doing? It's Christmas Day, for crying out loud! Stop working on your game, and go spend some time with your family or something. You remember your family, right? They are the people you abandoned when you chose to spend today developing games rather than eating turkey and getting even socks."

FYI I don't eat turkey on Christmas, my mum's at work, I won't develop any games on a computer using Windows ME, it's raining outside, and when my mum comes back we're going to celebrate her birthday. Besides, Christmas is over.

..I liked the stuff about getting drunk and even socks though.   ;D  ;)   ;)  ;D

Although I'm a newbie too I solved it with some easy scripting. Can't remember the code now because I'm on another computer at the moment.

Consult the manual and all the answers will reveal themselves as bad cheese on an old sandwich.   ;D

So if you're a guy with a deep voice and have access to a microphone, please record the following line and send it as an attachment (mp3 or wav, please) to ifs104@psu.edu.

I am a male and with a deep voice owning a microphone. I'm terrible at voice acting though. At least I think I am.   ;)

Just downloaded your Apprentice 1. Am going to take a peak at it now.

Cheers!

A game with 20 rooms and tons of dialogue and a very high difficultly level could be a long game, while a game with 20 rooms and no NPCs and minimal puzzles could be a short one.  Also, is there really any good reason to differentiate between (for example) a 20-room game and a 21-room game?

I can see a very clear problem there too. I don't think I was too serious with my suggestion though. I just think it would be weird to say a game is medium or full based on how many hours you sat and played it. Some people are better than other at solving games too, who gets to decide?

(I'm just pulling that number out of my ass, I have no idea if it's anywhere near accurate)

Yeah, you do find strange numbers in your ass sometimes.   ;D

Not really. It's really up to the author of the game. I believe there are some medium games that are the same size as a few of the full games.

Couldn't it be like with movies where less than 1h30min is a short movie, 1h30min and more is a full movie and 2h and longer is a Tolkien movie?  ;)

Applying this to adventure games would not be the actual playing time though but maybe how many rooms and puzzles there are instead. Of course there has to be an agreed standard there, just as with movies.

You have to script, at least I had to.
