That was really only because we weren't sure if m0ds was planning on hosting this year.  AGA and I said we'd do it if that was the case.  England is better for people coming in to London airports.

Yeah, it's been in development for PC since MS dropped doublefine, presumably releasing them from any exclusivity deal.  I don't expect it'll be a huge success, I just hope it'll be good, I love Tim and all, but it's still a platform game ;) could go either way.

There's nothing moral about nature, Wanderlady. Ã, There is no right or wrong way, there is just the way that survives. Ã, Does nature also prove to us that celibacy is wrong? Ã, Do you use what's best for the propogation of your genes to base moral correctness on when they don't already fit with your belief system? Ã, No, of course not, you wouldn't kill off other's children or be a polygamist because it's what works well in the amoral natural world.
The "it's not natural" argument is stilly, in almost any situation.

There are lots and lots of things that would be considered wrong by a "live and let live" type person, anyone that infringes on someone else breaks that ideal... it's really not worth listing them. Ã, Murder though, that one will do. Ã, Thread over, no arguments, yay.

Is it? HOTU offer abandoned warez just like Abandonia (Some people around here seem to think the term abandonware is there to mask the fact that it's illegal... I think it's a useful term personally, there is a very clear moral and economic distinction), they are no more within the law.  I think Abandonia is doing a great thing, Abandonware is illegal, there's also almost nothing wrong with it.  Copyright is something given by the government to artists to allow them to make money from their creations, when the artist is no longer going to accept money for their work I think we can ignore it, it's not a God given right.
Basically everyone on this forum supports abandonware and downloads these things privately, the only reason we don't talk about it here is not to get into trouble with lawyers, although chances of that are about as minute as the chances of photo copyright holders suing us over the PP competitions imo.

It's something like 4 years old iirc, but that's new for a p&c adventure I suppose.  I wasn't dissapointed because I wasn't expecting much, it gets better toward the end but as a whole it's not very good.  The puzzles are the worst part, especially the parts where there are a couple of quite obvious solutions to the puzzle nearby which don't even get a response when you try them.  Also the way the main character has to explain everything he does before he does it, something like *Click fridge door* "You know I think I'll open this door because that item I am looking for might be inside." *Open door animation* "Oh look, this butter was inside, I will pick it up and put it in my inventory!" *Pick up animation, switches to inventory view* "This could come in handy for greasing something up!" *Item appears in inventory*, it's like that every time you click the mouse, I swear.  Drove me insane.

if by "Quest for Porno" you mean Porn Quest, there's no porn in it.  ARE=Alien Rape Escape, which is not an erotic game.  Forgot about Quest For Orgy, I've never played it.

I realise you were asking that, Bombadil, which is why I answered accordingly.
#1068
Not really... ARE has some bare breasts at some point which I totally swear I didn't draw.
People who think it'd be a totally cool idea to make a porn game don't stick around long enough to finish one.

Here are free non adventures I have played the most that everyone-has-probably-played-but-still-deserve-posting-in-the-sticky:

Noctis
Noctis is a massive, eerie, lonely, 3d space exploration game.Ã,  You can fly to any star you see in the sky, land on any planet or moon and walk around... and that's it.Ã,  Not really a "game" but worth experiencing.Ã,  Totally unique software 3d engine.

Liero (Link changed, external link was blocked before)
If someone is sitting next to me and we want to play multiplayer, I love to play this.Ã,  No remake has done it justice.

ADOM
Angband
Nethack
And other roguelikes. They can be repetitive, and you need to use your imagination with the "graphics" but I often find myself playing them. The idea of totally randomly generated worlds is quite cool, try one if you haven't.

Seiklus is nice, I might have linked that if it wasn't already.

I'd like to be linked to some more good games please.

http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=1800&p=13 it varies depending on the test, but according to benchmarks a Centrino 1500 is roughly as fast as a Pentium 4 2ghz, an AthlonXP 3000+ is roughly equivalent to a 3ghz Pentium 4, that's quite a large speed difference, just on processors I'd definately go for the HP laptop.
You have to decide what's more important for the rest of the system,
The Acer has a better graphics card, which will be important if you wan to play new games, it also has more disk space obviously, is 20gb more going to make much difference to you?  Personally I'd go for the HP, I wouldn't use a laptop as my main gaming system, and the DVD writer would be useful.

It's no more impossible to play multiplayer games on Steam than any other normal multiplayer game on slow connections, that is to say, almost impossible :P
You can't play FPS games, steam or non steam, on dialup and stand a chance against broadband users.Ã,  In general steam makes getting patches and things much easier, the steam servers are very fast and it's automatically kept up to date.Ã,  I'd love more games to use steam, bought HL2 through it, and I'd buy other games.
As for if CS is 'better' than other multiplayer games, I'm not sure, it's the most fun FPS I have played... the way shooting and tactical skill really matters, one good player can destroy a whole team with his aim or a cohesive team can outfox a group of better shooters makes it great to play when your plan goes well.Ã,  I'm sure there are other "tactical realism" games that are around the same level of fun, but CS is the most popular.Ã,  A Hitman type online game would be totally different, it's an idea we've discussed on IRC at length... it'd be hard to pull off but I'd love to see it tried.

BTW, everyone is welcome on the AGS CS:S server, unless you're an awp user ;)

I don't think so LGM, we're mostly friendly toward each other right? It's more like the jokes European people make about each other's nations and people.
Of course there are people that will take it further now more than usual because of the large amount of resentment over US politics, that's silly of course, but I admit it exists.
I don't know why you think the post is relevent though :P

As for attitudes to immigration... a few years ago I thought of the UK as one of the best examples of a multicultural country, at least where i have lived people from different cultures have got along just fine with very little seperation from each other. Ã, It seems mostly the same to me now, so I wonder what has triggered such a wave of resentment among people (a minority, but still...)
We still have one of the highest rates of interracial marriage in the world and in general things are how they have been all my life, it's a shame some people feel under threat or something. Ã, It's actually only making problems of integration some immigrants face harder.
Also, I wouldn't say people have a problem with non whites, it's less of a racial issue than you think, it's mainly Muslims that get hated (and white Eastern European economic migrants to some extent), just new immigrants. Ã, The more established Black and South Asian communities are as much a part of british culture as ever, only actual racists seem to have problems with them.

LFN might be long filename... but that seems strange, are you making a dos game?
What is the file name of the music file?

I hear Byzantine may be moving ahead, though not quite as you all know it ;)

TJH2 relased next year? Maybe... right at the end.

I'm looking forward to Donna, Shadowplay, perhaps the long awaited FoY demo, (I don't hold much hope of seeing the full game), there are a lot of smaller games I am looking out for as well of course.
Farlander, pass on the MI1.5 scripting to someone else already! Barcik clearly doesn't have time, it could have been released 6 months ago if he did.

General Discussion / Re: Omg my pen!
Thu 09/12/2004 00:41:48
There are no batteries in a wacom pen, or tablet.
Not sure if the pen is really the cause of your problems, but replacement pens are pretty cheap iirc, I have an older wacom and finding a replacement pen here wasn't easy, but it wasn't expensive.
does it happen wherever on the tablet the pen is, or only in certain places? if it's the latter the actual tablet is probably bust

Doomed is ancient, GM supports real 3d accelerated textured polys now so a Doom style game is entirely possble.  With a little coding.  You can probably find a free Doom type engine for GM6 around somewhere on the forums if you look.
#1077
Well that's a 2d game, but I assume you mean the 3d hardware acceleration...
That is a reason NOT to use it? I think it uses the 3d support well, alpha blended characters on high res backgrounds at a high framerate... who doesn't have a 3d card/chipset? only people with ancient computers that wouldn't be able to run that game well if it was done in software mode.
I'd love if AGS supported that feature, it opens up a lot of possibilities for those of us not trying to emulate the early 90s.  As for the real 3d that was just added to WME, it's a nice addition, but I can only see a couple of games being done in 2d/3d, it really seems to me that pure 3d would be easier to work with and offer more possibilities  (perhaps I'm biased as I'm making a pure 3d adventure game engine).

AGS will remain the most popular 2d adventure game making engine, and this one will become the first choice for 2d/3d ones.  I'm glad such an engine finally exists.

We cobbled one together for Alien Rape Escape too.

You move the mouse just like in a 2d p&c game, it moves relative to screen coordinates so it feels the same. Then we use a bit of mathematics and collision checking to trace a line from the camera, through the cursor, into the scene to see what 3d coordinates the mouse is pointed at.  Like how a fps finds what point your railgun hits when you click the fire button, except the cursor isn't always in the middle of the screen like an fps crosshair.  Of course a mouse can't move in 3d, but that is not necessary to click on an unit in a 3d strategy game for example, it's the same idea.
You can use point and click in my WIP 3d adventure game engine, it works.
I might have helped you borisz, if I wasn't already working on own 3d adventure game.

General Discussion / Re: Regarding radio
Sun 26/09/2004 16:09:24
Everyone will give their opinions on what is being played:

[17:31:30] * Flippy_D hits the person playing Adradio
...
[17:31:39] <Flippy_D> I don't want the ambient soundtrack o_o
[17:31:48] <Hotspot16> noone cares what you want
[17:31:59] <Flippy_D> It's just... seagulls.
[17:33:28] <Flippy_D> Oh great, now it's just jungle noise.
[17:33:36] <Flippy_D> SAY, THIS IS RIVITING :P

You think Scissor Sisters is worth playing and jungle noise isn't, others might think the opposite.
Don't get so offended, perhaps it is because you'd like to think your "selection is very varied and of a good calibre" that you get upset.  Everyone else expects to get abuse for their bad taste ;)
You do usually have some listeners, no less on average than other people.  So just ignore it :P
