Yeah realistic stuff can be hard work.. what might be possible is a Grim style thing where you make stylised characters that are pretty easy to make.  Easy is relative though.. you're still going to have to learn how to use some 3d software and that will take at least a few weeks.  Animating them will require you to learn 3d animation which will take even longer.. it's not easy for a total 3d newbie.
I'm not much if a fan of 3d stuff being used extensively in 2d games.. I'd recommend you use 2d programs if you're making 2d games. It'll probably be easier.
I'm planning to make a 3d advanture one day.. but it won't be in ags.

One way to do it is to render your image out with 90° camera angles in each direction and map the 6 images onto the inside of a 3d cube. then look at it from the centre of the cube in any direction and you have the correct 3d view..  It's harder to do than making ordinary backgrounds so it probably wouldn't get used that much and also would require a 3d perspective view and a radically different system for hotspots and walkable areas.. basically I think it'd require most of the ags engine to be redone so it's not really possible, at least if you did it that way.  But i can't think of a simpler one myself.

800x600 is a bit slow on lower end systems <800mhz so I'd only reccomend using it if your art looks significantly better than it does at 640x480.

Play The Curse of Monkey Island for an example of how good 640x480 and 256 colour can look.

I don't think many people have anything against 3d as you put it. It can certainly be as graphically beautiful as 2d when used well.  Some might be put off by some of the newer 3d adventures not being quite as good as some old ones or games companies doing 3d just for the sake of it being 3d though.  I'd love a 3d AGS, and would certainly use it.. but it's not going to happen.. at least for a very long time.
It's a little off topic anyway.. if this thread has a topic anymore that is :)

I think 3d characters on 2d pre rendered (by hand or by computer) backgrounds are great, the character feels more like a part of the scene rather than something stuck on top of it and there are advantages in animation as you say.  Even better now 3D hardware is at a point where it doesn't have to look uniform and boring, as long as there are good artists.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:320X200

I think that relative size is in AGS cooridrinates, which should be 320x200 for a 640x400 room, you see at that higher res it still uses low res coordinates.. I think just to cause less hassle with imported guis and scripts made for different resolutions.
It should still look high res in game though.

In what way? That story and style? certainly.. if you mean the 3d characters then that can't be done, and probably never will be an ability of ags. You might be able to make a similar control system with a lot of scripting, but I don't think it'd work as well in 2d.

Heh that's rather vague.. I don't recall seeing anything like that though.  If it comes with ripped graphics it probably isn't very good.

I'm sure most people know these but thanks anyway :)
Now make an adventure game! :P

I can't think of a way to do 360 panoramas in ags.. you could make a room scroll with the effect of it turning round 360.. wouldn't be that convincing though and you won't really be able to look up and down.

You're ok Panda, but leaving to work on your game can't be a bad idea anyway.. wish I had the self discipline to ;)

I've agreed to take this on. Look out for it, Coming soon ;)

Never you have make comments my english grammar about  :(

I agree, it's certainly quietened down now, and there aren't any really bad posts or posters at the moment.  If the forums are to improve further it's going to take some effort from more responsible members to start some interesting threads now.

Just convert it, it's not THAT hard :|
bmps wast our bandwidth and it takes you 3 seconds longer to save in something with a bit of compression.
The rule is not stupid.

just change the end bit so it says:

blah blah..
....
if (locker < 3) {
locker++;
}  else locker=0;

that should do it

There are people here from many country, it'd be silly if everyone posted in their own languages, English is the language most people can speak here, as well as the language AGS is based in so it's only logical.. there are some adventure game groups based in certain nationalities such as GACS for the greeks, but it's better for everyone if these forums stay entirely in english.
