Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:pcx vs bmp
Fri 23/05/2003 10:23:38
You're right, it makes no difference to the way AGS stores the graphics.  In AGS the sprites aren't compressed, the backgrounds are though.. although when you zip the game up the sprites compress well.
PCX is just better to use to save disk space, although that probably isn't a problem unless you have a lot of high res graphics.

If you changed it to do an animation then waht it to change back to the original view you should use

Acutally it wasn't.. parralax scrolling has been used in arcade games since forever :)

I think I'll try out this plugin, I couldn't find it once before when I was looking for it.

Yeah, that's basically the reason.. they were considered unclean (literally) like rats, snakes and insects because they filtered out less disease than animals with double stomachs ._.

It was just a common sense rule adopted into their religious rules.. now I guess it's part of the sacrifice of being religious, or something like that.

http://aegisknight.org/sphere for sphere..
it's a 2d rpg engine, hardware accelerated and quite nice to use.. but it's really designed for people who like scripting or are willing to learn it, it doesn't even come with a built in inventory system or NPC movement, you have to custom script it yourself in javascript.  Although there are examples for things like that ._.

Yeah looks good :)  Pity you can't animate it :/

You dont need to make a *.char character.. just import your character's sprites into a walking and talking views then create the chracter on the characters bit in the editor..
#1597
When you give the character the hat use this script command:

SetCharacterSpeechView (CHARID, int view);

There isn't an engine specifically designed for 3d adventure games as far as I know :(  I'm sure you could adapt one of the general purpose 3d engines to make an adventure games but you'd need to have a fair amount of programming skill I think :(

Hehe, he's talking about the takeover of the ags irc channel  by 'the French' I think and Franch clanners coming in now and again and being annoying.. we don't really hate the French here at AGS though, and you're right there hasn't been much of a community of French AGSers so far, only a few here and there.  Someone's already done a Spanish translation, I think it's a good idea ._.

There's certainly some interest from me ;D
I'd love to make some music.. but don't really know where to start..
