Won't work for me either... I don't know what to do, I'll take it down again, I guess.

It's back up now, Hajo fixed the permissions issue.

It depends on your purposes and requirements.  Game Maker is good if you want to make a standalone executable game for windows, it has a whole lot of features that may be daunting, but if you can script then that would be the number one choice.  Making a platformer in Flash is more fiddly, but you can play the results in a browser.  Flash is for vector graphics, and Game Maker is for bitmap graphics (broadly), so Game Maker would be more suited if you're after a pixelled look. As far as I can tell, MMF isn't as flexible and nice to use as GM.

As for other engines... none really come to mind.  Platform games are so diverse that no one platform game engine has emerged that can fulfill most peoples needs.

Surely you'd have to admit that IF needs to be interactive, otherwise it's just F.Ã,  What this is really is a non interactive animation, which doesn't fit into adventure game, or non-adventure game, because it's not a game.Ã,  Since there isn't a category for what you've made at the moment, ginanubismon, I suggest you put it wherever you feel it goes best, everyone will have a different opinion of what's best... personally I'd go for "short adventure games".

Grundislav is IloveBJs, Deepthroat is not Grundislav.  Grund released the final version of the game at the start of this thread, making it look like a joke, as a joke. Now the game is released officially too.

Yeah, sleeping in airports is fine, certainly wouldn't pay £23 and travel to some hotel to avoid one night.  I expect they might say something if they noticed you there for multiple days, but for one, they can't tell if you're waiting for a flight or not.  At night half the people around you are asleep too.

Apparently they don't have arm rests on their seats, perfect.

It's a really confusing site, but the download link I eventually spotted at the top right, you may have to wait for a little while, and sometimes a popup appears OVER the link... you can certainly see their priority is on getting to to view ads and not getting you to download!

AGA went to a school like this, but with Welsh instead of French.  Highly useful.

People have tended to post requests for website advice here, the CL should only be for adventure game development relevant skills, I think, certainly not webdesign, so I'll leave it here.

I can only think of three or four threads about people's websites recently so it's not a big deal, but please, if you're considering making a thread about your site, ask your friends or a webdesign forum for advice, unless you think people here would really be interested in it. Ã, At least so far people don't seem to mind too much.

Incidentally, I think I'm going to start OROW4 on the 22nd of this month, so make space in your diaries!

Yeah we had to leave it empty until you go to the fourth zoom level in because as you might be able to tell it's slow enough as it is, and displaying all the pins when fully zoomed out would mean they were indistinguishable from each other anyway.
There are about 245 people currently on there, too many more and I'll have to optimise it for speed a bit ;)

It makes 9 people including you, as far as I can see.

Bus, 40 minutes, couple of euros.

For the Barcelona crew, it'd be £39 exactly if the 7 of us get a car, I think it's not a bad idea... we'd have an easy way to go shopping in the week, or whatever.  On the other hand, I think it's a bit more than getting the train... but factoring in local transport as well as the train, perhaps there's no difference.

About £87 at the moment, easyjet told us £64, what liars they are! But still, not too bad.

Seems someone restarted the server under a different user, so the file permissions are wrong, I'll try and fix it now..

Edit: I can't be bothered, linux permissions are too confusing.  Maybe tomorrow.

Really? It's fine for anyone I ask to test it, always. I will have to put some sort of error logging in...

The games Mr Flibble mentioned are perhaps mostly better, because I think the period of time you're asking for wasn't a great for PC games but it seems you're asking for PC, so here are some of the bigger games that I can think of:

Starting in 2000 you have Deus Ex, which many would consider the best RPG/FPS (if that was even a genre before), and iirc The Sims came out that year too... uh... it was a Little Computer People sort of deal that sold a lot of expansion packs to girls. The first Hitman game appeared, but I don't think it was the best. The Longest Journey came out, still haven't gotten around to playing it, though.

GTA3 appeared the next year, GTA worked really well in 3d, but we have two more 3D GTAs based on the same engine now, which are better.

In 2002 we got Morrowind, an extremely large RPG which I haven't managed to get into, but a lot of people like it.Ã,  If you have a very powerful PC you'd probably want to play Oblivion instead, which just came out.

2003 had Beyond Good and Evil, a game which a lot of people around here would recommend highly, but wasn't the major hit it deserved to be. Also enjoyable was Knights of the Old Republic, a Star Wars RPG.

In 2004 Half Life 2 finally came out, it's worth playing, still quite pretty, and if you want, you could try Counter Strike: Source which comes free with it, but only if you want to get killed a lot. GTA: San Andreas also came out, the best and largest GTA game (Vice City is still worth playing, however).

World of Warcraft appeared in 2005, check it out if you feel you're too productive and successful. SWAT 4 was kind of amusing. My favorite game of that year was Psychonauts, another kind of BG&E deal, not really successful commercially, but so funny, imaginative and fun.

This year, all I can think of on the PC is Oblivion, and the only good thing I can say about it is it's really very pretty, too pretty for my graphics card. Later this year, Hitman: Blood Money comes out, and Alan Wake looks interesting.

As for indie games... there was Uplink, quite fun for a few hours... not a lot else.Ã,  Also notice there aren't many adventure games? Adventure games suck now! You could try Runaway I guess... I tried not to list many shooters, there are so many, some quite playable, but few do anything new.
