Well... it looks like it was left in by mistake to me, but it could be intentional, sure.Ã,  I don't think even the controversy experts at Rockstar could have predicted the uproar though, it's hardly the most offensive thing in San Andreas... I expect they took it out because it was slightly too lame to put in the game.Ã,  The girlfriends thing is bad enough as it is.
Is it selling a lot more now than it was? It's a GTA game, the last two are the highest selling PS2 games by a fair way... like 5 million+ copies each, doesn't really need controversy to sell now.  I hope it is, anyway.

I think it's meant to work in IE now... perhaps not the add page.  I'll ask AGA, he's the one who can update it.  CJ worked out what was wrong with it for IE.

General Discussion / Re: Pen Tablets

Heh, feels like we get a "Which tablet should I get?" thread in here every other week.

For 300 USD I'd go for a Wacom Intuos 3, 6x8 inches.  I have a smaller tablet than that, and 6x8 sounds about the ideal size.  I've used an A4 wacom before, and it's too big.  Your hand just gets tired faster, it doesn't give you any noticable increase in precision.

If you're willing to spend that amount of money you're definately going to be wanting a Wacom.  A size lower, or the budget model the Graphire might suit you as well, if you want to spend a bit less.

Of course pressure sensitivity is standard on all graphics tablets, Intuos tablets also have tilt sensitivity, and twice the levels of pressure sensitivity of the cheaper tablets.  A graphire is pretty good... I'm happy with mine, but the Intous is the "pro" wacom.

Yup, I suggested it to CJ partially for that reason.  And also because it might lead to a little more flexibility with video content... for example playing movies on backgrounds, which wouldn't be possible just making a call to windows to play a movie.  It also means we don't have to worry about codecs installed on the player's system.
CJ said that he'd take a look at it when it reached version 1.0 (currently in alpha).

Thanks to everyone who entered!  Well done to all the winners.

Balloon Face was the best game for me, but yes, it had no puzzles worth mentioning... people are incapable of voting properly, we know this from the first competition.  IMO Gladiator Quest deserved scripting, music and probably art, even if it was too hard.  OROW has never been about the competition to me anyway, more about getting people to make games, and it succeeded there.

I don't see 800x600 as an 'odd' resolution, iirc it was the most common desktop res a few years ago, and it's a square pixel resolution with nice round numbers for dimensions, a litle higher than dvd resolution and not very pixelly looking on a small-medium monitor.  But 1024x768 is standard these days... if it's little effort to support it then I don't think there is any harm in doing so... limiting the choice of resolution articifially doesn't make much sense to me, there hasn't been a big problem with people using 800x600 when they don't need to so far, and I don't think there would be for 1024x768.
Then again, it probably would only be used for a handful of games, if it's more than a few hours work then I don't think it's worth it...
512x384 is supported on all the graphics cards I've had recently.. but support for that's not a big issue really, people developing for 1024x268 aren't going to be the kind of people targetting the lower end.

Voting would be closing now, except AGA isn't around and I can't close it eithout him.  If you're going to vote this is your last chance.

Ok, well AGA and I started working on a map... it is starting to work, but there are a number of bugs to get through.Ã,  One major one being that IE refuses to work with it right now... if you can access it then you can see it here, you'll need to zoom in a little to see the person markers at the moment.
If you want to add yourself now you can do so here, the data will be kept for the final version.

Just a reminder to vote, this is the last day that you will be able to.  Voting closes in about 18 hours from now.

I'm thinking that maybe the maps page should take advantage of the new Google Maps API.  True, Google Maps doesn't have the whole world in detail yet, but neither did the old map system, and more detail will be added for more places in the world as time goes on.
I'll take a look at the API and see how hard it'd be.  All the images are sent from google's servers this way, so the AGS server isn't bogged down.
Good idea?

Don't know why Anna is slow, I didn't make it.  AGS isn't particularly slow if you're careful... a lot of places to interact shouldn't be a problem.

Well actually PS is saving 32 bit pngs, that is, a 24 bits for the colours and 8 bits of alpha for the transparency.  If you use "Save to web" in PS then it'll give you the option of saving as PNG, 24 bit, and then you can check the transparency box.  If you just go to "Save As" and select png then it should save as a 32 bit png by default, as long as you have some transparent parts of your image.

800x600 is fairly low res to me...  Most 2d adventures today are released for 1024x768... I'd like it because I draw by graphics high res, and they do look quite a lot blurrier at 800x600.
Wintermute does high resolutions though, and if only a few people want high res there's no reason to stick it in AGS.  Give Wintermute a go if resolution is a problem for you.

Whatever you honestly think your game is worth.

It's been this way for a number of years.Ã,  Lucasarts just don't make original adventure games anymore so they have no reason to promote them.Ã,  Not since Sam & Max 2 and Full Throttle 2 were cancelled.
Now that the last (hopefully) Star Wars movie has been made perhaps they won't be able to ride on the hype from the movies anymore and will be forced to try making new franchises... but... the whole culture there has changed, all their adventure designers are gone to Double Fine, Telltale and working on their own things.  I don't think they will ever be a major adventure game company again.

I have just aquired a repack of Gladiator Quest by the guys at FUTURE OF '95, they've included a hack to make it easier for those of who who were stuck (all of you).

Code: ags

(copy and paste the url)

I didn't mention to people they should include a walkthrough, only one person did.  We'll do that next time I guess... unless everyone wants to send me walkthroughs/hints.

If you draw your vectors (or any other type of image) on a transparent background and save the images as 32 bit pngs and make your game in 32 bit colour then you will be able to use the antialiasing.  Otherwise yes, you need to work without it.

The submitter of HiYah messed up the first time, and didn't have time to upload a new version of his game.Ã,  So I put that message in intending to replace it with the exe later, then as I was finishing uploading the archive of games his friend mailed me a working version of the game. Not wanting to upload it all again I uploaded the new game and told AGA to add it to the zip file on the server using linux magic.Ã,  I guess that didn't work...
I'll get it fixed.

http://scotch.agagames.com/HiYah-game.zipÃ,  here is the game exe, and the main distribution should be updated now.
