this is looking better all the time. Painting cool characters with such a limited palette and small resolution is a mean task and master it!

I had a hard time figuring out what to do with the circle like shape (so that means it's a good shape...), so I gave the arcade machine some arm with which it will grab you and never let you go again, like every arcade machine does.

...or the arcade likes to play with itself and its joystick

I painted my BG Blitz entry while listening to this. Actually it took longer to paint it so I listened to this episode twice!

I have no idea if this is even a background or more of a painting. But after reading this theme I had to get this picture out of my imprisoned own brain and I always wanted to do a piece with someone stuck to some tubes in a more or less sterile room.
Could work gameplaywise as a rescue mission background

* Since my daughter was born I relearned to marvel with the simple and beautiful things. I could go again to a infinitude of emotions and feelings that so long ago I had forgotten. In the real episode was a jet plane... those who leave a trail of "smoke"...you know...

When my little girl was 3 years old she was so excited to see them... she told me... with a big smile... "Look daddy...! Is the Chihiro's dragon!"... and wherever we were she always called me to see them flying and we did "Byeeeee" with our hands... "byeeeee"... as I did when I was a kid ...

From these moments  I created this habit... every time i see a  plane across the sky I stop everything that I'm doing and look at the top in silence with a big smile... like a passenger... losting my mind in the infinity blue... oh man...in this times some people look at me with a strange face (lol)...  but i never care... I'm flying and I will never lose this heaven again...

what moloko said, but don't chose only one theme like jungle, medieval, space, or even erotic theme, but create tilesets and base 20 levels on jungle, 20 levels on space, 20 levels on desert, etc.
Looking at the 2nd video (less colors stylized thing), well, the black particles look kind of interesting, maybe add some kind of glow/shadow around them. But when the balls hit the wall the particles still don't look good. The movement is too straight, add some randomness and also a different form than just 1px particle, maybe also random sizes to show the shattering of the ball object.
