as written on discord, my idea for a compromise to all the legacy image in the forum that survived would be to screw the proxy and somehow have the forum not accept insecure images from now on, maybe with a regex check on http: * [.jpg|.png|.bmp|.gif] but I suck at writing regex.

a minor thing is, the forum spoiler button no longer has the crossed eye image.

This thread is quite old, but since only a demo was released there never was a completed game's thread and there is not even a database entry. I had great fun replaying this incredible game made with AGS. If you have some time over the holidays left, play this gem! In case you are stuck... watch this longplay of Forge - chapter 1. It is almost 3h long, but still I want more! 8-) :-D

What was the resolution of that fluid simulation, selmiak? :D

hehe, I really considered setting up a fluid sim just for this image for a moment, then considered the name of the thread and searched the internet for watersplashes and shopped this in ;)

@josiah: I like that placement, you can really follow where he is looking ;-D

the one who won the last round and chose the starting image should set the winning conditions, if per image or per person. But he/she should do so in the post with the starting image (which I didn't).
Since I chose the current image, as I said, I'm in favour of per person just to get more entries. If they all suck you won't get any votes, no matter what, but if they are all great chances are you get some votes.
But for now, well, who won then and gets to chose a new image? Seems like all votes by now are on different images. If I, as the starter or this round, gets to chose one, it's probably back to TMA... and it's friday already...
btw, somehow I knew this would happen and wanted the voting to start early ;)

how would you do that? Global variables? Or 5 variables per room? can you change their names without breaking anything?

EDIT.  Ok so I noticed a bunch voted for me,  but not for the same image,  shall we say the votes only count per-image and not per-member ..  I say this since I spammed the forum so many times with entries its a bit unfair to others who only posted one.

I'm in favour of even counting per member votes just to encourage multiple entries, worked out great with your spamming ;)

I use photoshop and this it not pure pixel art anymore when you shade like this. Pure pixel art has a very limited palette. But shadings like these look nice too ;)

some more good tuts:

@CassieBSG: It's called Photoshop Friday and friday is well over. People are slow with voting too and I am slow with counting, so voting from now on until thursday night is happening.

@josiah: well, sure you're in, so from NOW on until thurdays night ;)

my vote goes to Tycho's very first post with the toy guns and the nice colors :)

ooooh, ooooh, the pixel sweetness! Does it have an aimed release date already?

normal reply works for me again, but other than that, quickreply is broken and I can't rate and/or comment in the game database. searching the database is broken too again. Also bring back the bugs+suggestions tracker plz.

they translated black morph... I hope the translation is any good! :P

scrolling through the site I found this, is this from an AGS game?

since friday is over some time and before the forum goes down again because of the awesomeness in this thread (or because of tycho spamming the server with new awesome imagery until the server denies service...) we should get the voting started. everybody only one vote, vote on the image you liked the most this round.
The person with the most votes gets to chose the next PF image  ;-D

Also, regarding lighting, when you approach an illustration, do you compose the image starting with lighting sources, then work on the actual features of the illustration? Should I first decide where light sources are, then commence sketching out the structures etc.?
this depends on the scene, of course I start with a sketch on paper mostly, or really rough scribbles in photoshop. Then I block in the basic forms of what I want to show with flat colors. Then I already think about lightsources, when there is sunlight you mostly think about where the sunlight is coming from and where the shadows fall and what color it will be or what time of the day it is. If it is a dark scene you think more about where to place the artificial lightsources and what you use as a lightsource. Then you maybe rearrange things to give room for another lightsource or make an object drop an even more interesting shadow. then refine it.

for your image I'd maybe add some pillars to the building to cast more shadows onto the building so you can better show the form of the building and maybe add another, a bit dimmed secondary lightsource behind the building, amybe on the right this time...

this covers everything very brief

also good

These basic light principles apply to pixelart too, but are a bit harder to do when you have a limited palette. but watching "making of" things is always interesting like this:

or this:

very expert level :)

just a quick overpaint with how the light is cast from that lightsource...
