I'm up to the point just returned from trying to save the bitten girl from the zombies at her door.
Spoiler
She asked the reporter for the gun, I failed to reply fast enough, we dropped down one floor and in the end she got the gun and shot herlsef.
Is there any way to make her go back inside without killing herself at once?

by now I like the overall presentation. The nice cellshaded with a paintover effect rendering and the atmosphere. Voiceacting is also good. I don't know why the all sounds were on 10 as a default setting as I had a really hard time understanding the talk with the music so loud over it. But that's an easy fix though. For riddles, well, it's sooo straightforward, little to no exploration possible this is a bit of a downside, but all in all it's a fun interactive clicky movie.

I've never been into the art of cooking sweet food but this will change with this thread!

I remember seeing a recipe for brownies in a mug on the internet, made in a mug in the microwave. I tried it and it tasted awful. What about a recipe for small but tasty blue mugcakes ... in a mug... is this even possible?

this reminds of of the image of the chinese space station traveling past the sun
clicky
maybe the first person on mars will be chinese. You hear that rest of the world?!
And judging from their population rate and being used to living in small spaces they could manage to send generation spaceships even deeper into space. ;)

cool  :cheesy:
I already updated the second post with my startimage...

now I'm quite interested what BillyCoen painted and how it will continue :D

you gotta be ulking me. Stop it before I turn into the incredible ulk... unlockable items like new fancy swords or (pimpin) hats for the player was always just called unlockables and not unlockable content or ULC. And next to DLC (which means downloadable content) ULC looks like uploadable content which ulks me even more... (roll)
#3767
so, we're one step deeper down.

vvvv continue down here vvvv

@BillyCoen: You can now show your pic if you want, but I won't post the startimage until Eric posted that he finished the first step up and has something to continue from ;)
#3768
yep, just wait until the next person claimed the next down image and delivered the few pixels to continue.
And to get things rolling I claim down now :D

Indiegames.com blogged about Unga need Mumba
http://indiegames.com/2012/04/freeware_game_pick_unga_needs_.html

this article is roughly one month old, but noone mentioned it yet ;)

I stupidly didn't notice you were also the thread starter! I hereby claim UP.
somebody has top do it :D

well, I somehow knew that this question would come up, so I intentionally wrote ~200px height, so you can go shorter or longer, no problem, just something around 200px. The width should be fixed at 200px though, otherwise we'll be in trouble. The pixels of the previous image don't count towards your patch and please don't post them with your complete image or they will be there twice. This could lead to an interesting effect but I actually doubt it would look good, except if you constantly reuse the pixels given by the previous image... which could make an interesting background... hmmm, now I want to paint another patch :D

@iceboty&mods:
ooops, didn't know that. It could be that I have a rather anarchistic let's do it right now before it gets cold approach to anything anyways, but yeah, sorry if I stepped on someones toes with creating the thread without approval. It's just meant to be a fun activity and not a branch of the AGS engine or something like that ;)
if it's not well received it will just take care of itself and vanish to page two and never be seen again anyways...

@potential participants:
I already drew my part and didn't claim anything. Feel free to claim any direction (as long as the thread isn't locked;)). I will post the startimage after both directions are covered of course. from there on it's only one patch to wait for before posting the complete image.

vvvv free to claim vvvv

As suggested by Eric as a reply to my idea for an activity thread here we are with the exquisite corpse painting thread.

If you have no idea what this exquisite thread title should tell you, read it up on wikipedia.
After you know this you should also know that, to transform this into an activity, some modifications and rules are set to keep it interesting (and a bit sane).
The basic idea is that everyone paints a piece of a huge scrollable image without exactly knowing what is in the part before to get some very interesting results.

The rules:

1)  You only get to see 5-10 pixels (depending on how much the previous painter decided you need to see) of the previous image and continue painting from there on.
2)  image width is 200 pixel, image height is also ~200 pixel
3)  from the startimage we continue both up and down to give more people the chance to take part
4)  you post in this thread when you want to paint a patch of the whole image and state if you want to go up or down. If both directions are claimed you have to wait until someone posts his result (parts of)
5)  feel free, have fun and paint your part
5a) Have some unfinished shapes, forms and/or things at the border where the whole image continues.
6)  Once you are done post only 5-10 pixels of your finished image to give the next person some pointers of where to continue without showing it all (of course the pixels have to be of the end of your image where someone else should continue)
7)  once the next image fitting to your image is done you edit your post to show your finished image or just post it in the thread
8)  all images will be put together in the next post after this

These rules might change as the thread progresses...

to avoid confusion I removed my startimage parts

Let's see if this works out :D

exqusite corpse sounds indeed exquisite. But that would be rather chaotic and I like chaos. And you wouldn't have to manage all that much. (laugh)
You only need a fixed width and a ~maximum height, once you're done you post the last 2-3 lines of pixels and the next one can paint on from there. Once the next painter posted his 2-3 lines of his finished picture you can post your whole image. And the first post is constantly updated with the additions. Interesting surreal results guaranteed :D

cons:
-slow progress, only one person at a time. Can be avoided by going up and down from the startimage. This need some more managing though ;)
- if this person fails to deliver someone else has to claim his addition and this takes even more time so people might lose interest. If the results are really mindblowing though...
- why hide the image? maybe some more continuity is also great. But this is against the corpse excuisite idea

soooo, how does 200x200 for every patch sound?
style: pixel art
palette... dunno, I like my freedom, the 8 bit era is long gone and 65536 colors are more than enough (16bit)
one rule: make sure to have some unfinished shape/form/stuff going to the border and not only the end of a background gradient.

I also have an inspiration for a starting image, so if I manage to complete it by tomorrow expect a new thread and some pixels to continue from :D
#3776
I have an idea but don't know how to manage it ;)
The idea is make a huge image where everyone participating paints one piece. One of these huuuuuuge scrollable pixelart images.
I have an idea for a theme that would be diving platform. Imagine some ladders tied together reaching up high into the sky or even space with a dark blue background on top and going down to brighter blue. There are people climbing up, some are diving down and there are cupboards tied in inbetween and so on. The whole thing stands on a mountain where stairs and more ladders lead up, and will extend down into the water where people are landing and diving and eaten by sharks and some skeletons on the bottom of the pond. It could even extend deeper to some caves where people are having waterfun and some skeletons are buried inbetween the rocks.

a huge but still limited palette is useful here.

So one method would be to sketch it all out and have artistic people sign up for parts and see what happens.

or method 2: have no sketch and have artists sign up for pieces but one at a time and you have to extend where the former part ends. this seems more constant but also slow in progress.

Sounds interesting? So how would you manage this? And what to do if an entry is really really bad and doesn't fit to the quality of the other parts?

yeah, take back the oxygen mask!
surviving is heroic, killing our guy makes him only a legend ;)

.tk domains are for free. But I don't know if they show advertsing. Iirc there is a small adbar on your site then.
Or if it is okay, you can get a 3rd level domain like yourname.eu.tp for free. Or go with yourname.agser.me.

@Eric: But, but good journalists do research, don't they?! :-\

@Dave: Thanks for these interesting insights :)
I see what you do with the resonance demo there, I hope the same demo or even a better one will be available once there is a release, as a good demo convinces me more than a thousand positive reviews. But I think resonace is already bought by me anyways.

Back on topic: But isn't getting mainstream attention, like 20x the people hearing/reading about your game attracting more players? Or maybe the word is spread even more with mainstream attention, think about reblogs, reposts, retweets, etc of popular gamereviewers. But the question is, if one was to post a Game on the AGS forums for free, and noone cares, but after some weeks put a 1$ pricetag on it and sell it via some indie dev channels like indievania and then send the link to the 'commercial' title to say rps and kotaku. Would they rather feature it if it was free or with a 1$ pricetag.
About the players: of course more people will play it if it is available for free, but on they other hand, if they don't know the game exists if it is free they won't play it. Now I'm confuzzled. I need statistics now!  ;)

#3780
is it possible that when you stick a price tag on your game and say it is commercial now more blogs will write about it? And with this attract even more players and reach more people?

I just have the impression that for example the wrestling adventure published by WE got more coverage in blogs and perhaps even printed magazines than for example donna:avenger of blood. I haven't played the wrestling game as it doesn't interest me that much but I just assume by now that it is way shorter than donna. So if donna would have a price tag of 1â,¬/1$ would it be covered more than now as people blogging about games only cover commercial games because they are somehow 'worth' more? Even if in this example the value you get for money is less (playtime) than with a free game.

Or has this something to do with the publisher? Was anastronaut blogged about a lot?
