Making rooms in 3d is damn easy thing to do. Making characters - not. At least if you model everything by yourself.

That's why it's a good thing there is Poser.  I've done a "from scratch" model of myself in 3d and I did complete it, but it is horrible about having too many vertexes, no hair, bad skin, and other such complications. It's relatively cheap compared to other 3d software, really.

I can't wait for "Journey to the Center of the Earth" to come out. It's too bad it isn't based on the book though. That was the first lengthy book I read, my grandmother bought it for me on my birthday in third grade and I've read it several times. Jules Verne is awesome, even better than Tolkien to me because I like the sci-fi stuff better.

EDIT: I just played the demo, kinda confusing and involves a little too much critical thinking right away, but I liked it. I just think the plot is a little weird, she goes into a cave and automatically ends up where it took months to get to in the book.

I also just figured out the game's been released already, haha. I was confused because part of the site said it wasn't enabled because the game wasn't released..? $20 isn't too bad considering the graphics for this. Kinda reminds me of Myst, with the complicated door puzzle in the demo.

General Discussion / Re:XP or 98?
Fri 02/01/2004 21:49:42
Windows 98 will only use so much of your memory, if you have one of those machines with 500mb or something keep in mind it won't use all of it. I can't remember the number, I think it only uses ~300 or something. It is also no longer supported by Microsoft.

My recommendation to you if you don't like XP is to use Linux. It's free, much less buggy, and most importantly NOT MICROSOFT. IBM is using it, Disney is using it, why shouldn't you? I've never actually used it, because my new PC is a laptop and I think it might be very hard to get the evil that is XP off of it and convert to Linux. I have not heard bad things about Linux though, and it is supposed to be able to port to a lot of stuff, so think about it.

Are you also going to use the term confederates for the people in the southeast? "Yanks" is a stupid term to envelope us under, because that's a label for people from the northeast part of the United States. Besides that it's slang for the full word, Yankee.

The reason we are called Americans and not you is only because it is in the name of our country, and not yours. United Statesians is not proper English, and saying "people from the United States" is long winded. I'll still call myself an American, thanks. If it really bothers you that much, I could just call myself an Oklahoman but that would be pompous to assume people have went through the trouble of memorizing the 50 states.

A little bit of history for you.. The name America comes from the first person to make a map of the America's, his name was Amerigo Vespucci. He started with the east coast and gulf of Mexico, mostly mapping what is today the United States of America. Rather than calling the country "New England" after the hated English when we were founded, the founding fathers of the US gave it a simple name after the continent that it rests on. It was at the time the most prosperous colony anyway, and people even referred to it as America then. Most South American countries are named with native words that have meaning, and ours is simply the most inoffensive bland thing they could come up with at the time. So I guess what I'm saying here, is that you should be proud of your heritage and stick to your countries name instead of being offended that you don't also fall under the label of American, after the first person to make a map here.

QuoteAlso Electricity runs from negative to positive, Silly Northern Hemispherians not knowing that they are actually the ones that are Down Under.

;D My Chemistry teacher in College (the COLLEGE of Engineering inside Oklahoma State University) has a map of the world in his office, it doesn't look peculiar, until you realize it's got New Zealand (his home country) on top and all of the words aren't upside down.  :D I thought it was funny.

I think the reason Vel doesn't refer to his local electronics store is because he realizes he's one of the only, or few, from his country. The US is the most wired country in the world, so most of the time when you talk to someone they probably are from the US. At least that's how I look at it. I live in America and there is neither a Circuit City or a Best Buy within 30 miles of me, but I don't complain. They're just trying to help, whether they realize who they're talking to or not.

Happy New Years!

Me and my friends had a lengthy discussion about the significance of a year once, and I can remember vividly all the way back to age three. A second was a lot longer then, and I can't ever remember time passing faster than after puberty. I came to the conclusion that a young mind is so much more active that time seems to pass more slowly, because a child is thinking and taking in information at twice the rate of an adult, therefore, time passes about half as fast for a child.

I disagree that there are no "clear" signs that it is a fake. This whole page is proof enough for me, because I haven't heard any of the radical christians I know talking about seeing and taking pictures of dinosaurs in africa..

Now don't get me wrong, I thought it was real until I browsed more. The creation education part is the clearly fake part.

Yeah, I'm not totally sure it's not satire either anymore, the more I browse it. It doesn't have the obvious outside links like landover, and maintains a lot of arguments I've actually heard. I've heard the triclavanist stuff in my old hometown before. People do actually buy that sort of thing. But then there are other things, like this:

And I just don't know anymore.

What do you mean? Like a free MIDI composer, drum loops, or a recording program?

There's a lot of stuff out there, usually kind of steep to learn.

I don't mean to bash christianity, it's just that this site comes of as a "here's how to brainwash your kid" guide. Rather than a serious explanation of common christian views it gives simplistic bashing of other religions, like the above. I showed it to some of my christian friends and they thought it was absurd, so I didn't think anybody would get offended.

EDIT: all while imparting the valuable moral lesson that we should not color outside of God's lines.. I didn't think THAT was ridiculous, it implies that things such as cloning and such are wrong because that's not inside the boundaries of nature. My comic relief is in how they tell you to go straight to your parents or pastor if you have an atheist in your neighborhood. Reminds me of home. *sigh*

I thought this was a riot, the atheist one is my favorite, but this one is so blatantly stupid that I couldn't help but post it. Watch out, I have a habit of lashing out at children, RARRGH!  ::)

Then why don't you explain why changing your computer clock is so hard?  Or evidence that anyone was pissed off enough about this subtle, harmless, funny joke to just stop using AGS? None of that was explained, because you just assume most AGS users can't change their computer clock, of which I can humbly assure you you are wrong.
#1394
I can't get Rode's to load either, despite upgrading shockwave and shutting off my firewall that often tampers with webpages. Don't know what the problem was.
#1395
Heh, you just KNOW someone left because they were mad the program shut off on christmas.  Anyone who gets offended at everything like that would probably leave for another reason, if not that. I seriously doubt that you are correct here.

I agree that the average computer user doesn't know how to set their clock differently, but the average AGS user is not the average computer user. Anyone who can't set their clock is going to have a hard time figuring out how to do anything in AGS. I kind of wonder if you're defending this just because YOU couldn't set your computer clock differently, which is just funny.

I'm not resorting to peer pressure, because immediately after reading your post I felt this way. You come off as one of those annoying people who screams bloody hell over any little thing that could possibly, maybe, slightly offend one person in 400,000.

I did read the properties, and I still don't get a few of them.. This isn't a photshop edit, but I found it on the web and I think it's a better Panda picture:

Someone do me, someone do me!!! (that is, my nickname, photoshopped)

Downloading now.  :)

EDIT:
The first bit of it was cool, I got the butler out but now I have to go to a christmas party.  Speed up the walkcycle of the kid a bit, it's a little slow.  Good game.
