I just put mine in. I found a place called villagephotos.com that hosts images for ebay and etc. and I thought, "This is way better than taking a free website that allows outside linking that will go under in 6 months!"

It's me, rocking out with my acoustic guitar. The electric guitar is jealous, it hasn't spoken to me in a while. I think it's because someone clipped my cord in half.

EDIT: I'm aware of the transfer limit, but my avatar is 2k.. you people aren't going to access it 2,500 times a day very easy. As soon as people stop looking at the Paint contest thread, the avatar is all I will have there.

OTHER EDIT: I changed it to my shoes, since they were new I thought they could be considered beautiful enough for my avatar. Oh yeah, and this noob called me ugly, so in my sarcastic fashion, I thought it would be funny.

Whilst posting all of my drivel I forgot to commend you for creating this, I like the old nintendo fighting style, and I think this will make a cool addition to a game.

QuoteI like your idea about kicking the opponent while he's down to finish him off.

I actually ripped that off from Grand theft auto.. after someone dies you can kick them until a pool of blood forms around their carcass.

Yeah, I said it! I play console games! *runs away to cry*

foz, that's only a temporary link, Yahoo has been keen to that trick for a while I think..

To give the computer fighter logic with blocking, you might try scripting something that makes him block after he is punched twice in a certain area, and do it for three or four seconds, so that the player can't just punch punch punch punch and get away with it. I think it would be interesting if you made it so that he had to lie there knocked out for a bit before you could kill him, maybe add a kick so you can finish him off or something.  :)

I think allowing the player to back off and move around is going to make it a lot harder on you scripting this, since now the computer needs a "chase" mechanism.

To give the computer logic with punching, maybe make it so that he won't punch when the player blocks very much (randomize the hit within a 7 second timeframe), and always takes a jab a second after you stop blocking. You could randomize when he takes a punch when the player is next to him and not doing anything, but what timeframe his punch is randomized in is up to you. I would probably make it within three seconds or so. This would be relatively fast paced and so it would seem like the computer had more logic, since you wouldn't have time to pick up the patterns.

Just a couple of ideas, as it is now I didn't have any trouble at all knocking the computer out.

For file hosting just use geocities, I think your Yahoo account entitles you to webspace. Once you do that, save it onto Geocities and instead of linking to the file, link to an html file that links to the file. You can't link pictures and etc from outside of the page.

Could you explain how to use this? I figured out how to punch and quick punch and block.. but nothing else really.

I knocked the computer over really easy, all you have to do is back off of them when you don't want to fight. I was losing points just for running into him though, which was strange. After I knocked him over, I didn't know what to do. He'd get back up and I could knock him over again, but never defeated him. After he did this a couple of times punching him no longer had any effect.

This is a bad way to share files, btw, if you use that yahoo account. Your link doesn't work either.

China.. that's interesting. Most of the attacks on my school come from France, of all places.

China has a very developed strategy to bring down our web infrastructure with hacking, maybe they've made you a part of the greater scheme.  ;)

You may try an alternate virus scanner - the online ones aren't always so great, even if they are from a good provider they often have incomplete records.

For a free one that works quite well, google AVG Virus Scanner. The home version is free, comes with updates, and essentially has same functions as mcafee and such. Since you have dial-up.. might suck, but others were interested so I thought I would mention it. Http://www.thefreesite.com has an awesome listing of free everything, including virus scanners in the software section. AGS was listed there once, don't know if it still is.

You could find the location of the malignant file and boot in safe mode. There it shouldn't start the file, and you will be able to contain it.

To do this, search for all of the files named after the internet explor process. You'll know by it's location that it isn't real. Restart and press F8 until you get safe mode options, boot with no network support. Here you can decide to delete it, or preserve it in a zip or rar file for later.

I got #2. I cheated with google and I still missed too many questions to get a PhD. Hopefully my alternative university studies will fare better with Engineering.  ::)

I didn't expect it to be this hard.

The girl who genuinely believed women shouldn't be able to vote was wrong, theoreticaly, but my guess is that she knew a lot of girls like the ones I mentioned. They couldn't answer other questions too, I'll list the most hilarious, and the answers to prove I know:

Who did we fight in the revolutionary war? Great Britain
Who did we fight in the civil war? Ourselves
What are pyramids made of? Stone (or sandstone)
Where do you pour new oil into your car? Not into the same place as you check it! haha
Does good blasphemy make god happy? (I think the problem was that we called it "good" blasphemy, lol) It doesn't.

One girl who was one of the (multiple) valedictorians of our class couldn't answer ANY of these. Very religious girl, was mad at me for calling blasphemy good (when she found out what it was).

In contrast there were quite a few really intelligent girls I knew. All of the guys we asked knew at least half of those, but some were idiots notheless. I think it was a product of the extremely poor education system in my town.

I think one of your questions should be, "Don't you agree we should do away with Women's suffrage?"

Half of the girls in my HS graduating class failed that one.

Hey feel like calling me a dumb American any time you like. I know a lot of dumb Americans so I can understand the generalization.

I've been responding to another post for awhile on an unrelated forum about how it's stupid to call ourselves Americans because we don't represent the whole continent. I don't agree, but I'm just a dumb American, so what do I know?

EDIT:
This has to be a joke, if you're fixing up your profile, why haven't you put a single thing in it. Kind of odd that you'd give up completely because you can't figure out your avatar has to be hosted on a webspace of some sort.

Oh guest, you're posting in the General forum, no AGS questions get answered here. In fact, this is the waste dump for the people who want to be offensive and impose their non-AGS views on other people. It shouldn't happen in the other forums, and if it does, it gets moved here.

Saying that we all "know" there is a god deep inside us is ridiculous. It's just as ridiculous as any other "ignorant" post that was made here. I can personally assure you I have never had such a feeling, and when I was 12 or so and I could finally get away with not going to church, I stopped, because it was faking that I had some sort of belief. I don't think you christians really know what it's like to be an atheist, because no matter how much we insist that we don't care and never will, you insist upon telling us damnation awaits us unless we find your ways. Our view toward you is much different, it's pretty much summed up in three words. "Don't bother me." That applies to a lot of other people as well, not just Atheists. Might explain why so much crap was made over this. I appreciate the christians here who share my "Don't bother me" philosophy. You are a unique group who I hope will dominate the christian community. The world will then become enveloped in a, "Hey, don't bother us, and we won't bother you," blanket, and no one will get offended by harmless comments as have been freely said before. No one likes an extremist of any sort but their own.

Well, I do have one suggestion that I think is pretty essential, and that is to make sure the link works before you post it..  ???

Gilbot: As you have no belief, why post?

Why did you post because you have a belief?  This isn't a religion-based forum, and everyone is free to post.  When you posted a question, you left it there for anyone to answer as they pleased, because you were asking everyone to respect your belief.  I would think this is more relevant to atheists (because they are most likely to offend) than people who are religious. In fact, tons of christians adamantly tell me that atheism is a religion, because even though it doesn't have a god, it does rely heavily on some unproven concepts to disprove christianity. I think this is nonsense.. but whatever.

As an atheist, I see just as much ridicule and offence from the christian community, probably more than is given to them.  How often do you see someone on the corner screaming, "You're god is a farse! Give up your foolish beliefs!" As compared to people on the corner holding up biblical verses and screaming, "Gays are going to hell! Atheists must repent before the almighty lord! Turn to the lord and your sins will be forgiven!" Maybe it's just because I live in the bible belt. This bothers me for a lot of reasons:

1. Because I'm not now, nor am I ever going to be religious, for many reasons.
2. Because I've heard it all before.
3. Because it's annoying, I've heard it all before hundreds of times, in fact.

Fact is, they aren't going to stop. It's their belief that it's their mission from god to save souls. My mission is to have fun with life, and jokes are a big part of that. I'm not going to stop either.

Just learn to ignore it, I really don't believe that it offends you enough to merit an entire community of so many people to watch everything they say, for fear of it being blasphemous of a religion a lot of people don't care about. Your time would be better spend in the swingers chat at Yahoo, now those people need to change their ways.

And Chris isn't vain, he's defending our right to say what we want. At most, this is only mildly offensive. I've seen (and said) much worse.

EDIT:
Religion is Belief, not necessarily something that cannot be proven, to clarify.
I give up, this isn't going to go anywhere. I just wish people could go through life without being offended at every little thing.

Blender is great, but hard to use if you're used to other programs. I use it because it's free, and that reason only. A new version was recently released addressing some of the long-standing lacks in it, but I haven't had a chance to get used to the new interface yet, so I've still been using an older version. It saves in VRML, DXF, and Videoscape formats as well as it's own "blend" format though, so scenes may be transferrable from one application to another. If you're used to something else, you'll probably hate Blender.

I don't think it's egotistical to make a sitcom about your own community. I think it's a fun idea. The idea of bringing in newbies to get their asses kicked is just pure genius. They could do stupid stuff, like sit on the couch that is reserved for moderators, then the whole bar gets quiet, and someone says, "So, you must be new around here. You haven't filled out the membership form, and you don't know the rules, so we might let you off easy.. this time."
#1495
Hmm? I tend to disagree, but it really doesn't matter. Creating that kind of variety would be a hassle, I just think it should have at least three different angles that rotate every 10 seconds or so.

Edit: Nm, I think I get what you're saying now.. I'm just thinking of the way they zoom in on someones face every time they say something. You never see one side of Jerry's apartment in Seinfield, but you do in other ones like Friends. What about a StrongBad like thing.. where it stays in one place most of the time, but visits outside areas too on occasion. Space Ghost is like that too. I tend to like that sort of thing.
#1496
No matter what it is, not having different angles would be boring.  If you've ever paid much attention to a talk show, the angles change just as often or more, I think around every 3 seconds.  Because we're all used to that, it would not be fun to have less than three camera angles, preferably much more.

I use blender, I'm not sure if anyone else is familiar with it, but there is an edging option. I'll try to get something done to show you guys, it should blend well with some good quality characters. The key to doing this right will be to make it detailed, but not overly complicated. It's best to avoid too many rounded objects and such, and that way the outlines only affect corners and it looks pretty close to good 2d stuff anyway, only better shaded.
#1498
I don't know why all of you guys are putting down band like that, they aren't totally filled with geeks like the stereotype would have you believe. My school is division 1 (Okstate) and every now and then I go watch the band practice near the student union. If you haven't watched the movie drumline, you wouldn't understand, but that's what it's like. Oh, and the hot band chicks, I couldn't do without those. I don't know what I'd do. You've also go the stuff that goes along with it, flags etc., lots of hot chicks there.

Your chess club story brings back memories. I was on the academic team, and it was filled with the biggest slackers (that includes me) in our school. I fondly remember wearing a giant lizard head at a meet once and casually asking people what their mom was on a scale of 1-10.

Anyway, on to what the post was about originally, I don't know why you would want to pay to put an ad in the paper. Make flyers, you'll get more for your money and people will actually look at them. If that doesn't work, print small cards and put them in every locker with funny jokes like you mentioned.
#1499
I could put this into 3d form and have a high quality room done in a couple of weeks, or an ok quality done by saturday. Cool things about doing the room in 3d are endless, since you'd want all kinds of camera angles it would save a lot of tedium, do the room once then take picture from whatever angles you want with barely any work.
#1500
I've actually got a couple of 3d models done now, I'm working on texturing them properly.  Kind of mixes SouthPark with Anime.. hard to describe.  I guess it's similar to the common cartoon-like character you see in most AGS games really, only in 3d.  I'm doing it this way because I can do all of the work designing the look, and then I just do some simple moving and take pictures afterword rather than having to bother with re-drawing everything over and over. Hopefully will give quality without tedium.

I'm going after characters before backgrounds and plot, because backgrounds are the next hardest thing and plot is cake for me.  I have quite an imagination.  I think I'm going to base this adventure at my college, that way I don't have to go through creating an entire world in my head.  My other idea was to base an entire adventure game in a nursing home of the future.. the reason? Character animations would be freakin easy, just put everyone in hovering "wheelchairs!"  No more of that pesky animating legs, you just draw 8 images and make them move up and down a bit.

Getting the hardest things out of the way first is my personal way to assure myself the game will get done, because if you save hard things for last, it's likely you'll slack off or give up entirely. Or rather, it's likely I will.
