Well no ... I just meant that if the population was diminished because of the fault of human-kind I would be dead anyway ... I mean, does the human race deserve a second chance?  If they destroyed themselves the first time around why bother with a second?  It'll just happen again and I, the innocent un-involved, will once again be obliterated by a blinding flash of nuclear energy once again!!

Or the post-holocaust survivors would care for the world a little better after trying to restore it.. it wouldn't be hard to imagine destruction of the information that would lead to an atomic bomb. While anyone today who can get the uranium could figure out how to make a nuke, it's not something that's easy to figure out when one is just trying to imagine ways to create large bombs.

Yes of course they deserve to go to the hospital, but what if there weren't any hospitals?  I have mixed feelings about this issue.

In my analogy, the "hospital" is the moon, where all of the information to restore the world to its former state would be housed.

Otherwise, yeah. I agree.

I don't mean to pick on you Darth, it's just that your comments irked me in particular..

If we can't stop ourselves from destroying the planet (nuclear holocaust) do we deserve a Noah's Ark on the moon?

Is this your fault? Do you deserve to suffer for it if a nuclear holocaust occurs, because I'm pretty sure that this would be the fault of relatively few people in comparison to the world population.

Quote from: Darth Mandarb on Wed 08/09/2004 17:22:08If an asteroid is going to wipe out the planet would we be messing with destiny/fate by having a 'backup' of the planet?

To me, that's like saying, "If someone is injured in an auto accident and would die without care, do they deserve to go to the hospital?"

I'm no astro-physicist here, but I think if something big enough came barrelling through the cosmos and completely obliterated the Earth the moon would probably be destroyed too.  Or would it drift off into the sun?  I just don't know ...

The moon is tied to the sun by gravity too, as it moves with the Earth. Imagine that you're driving in a car, and you jump out. You're still going to be moving just as fast as the car was, except you'll slow down because of air resistance and your corpse bouncing on the asphalt. BUT if there were no air or gravity you'd continue moving at the same velocity and direction. The same applies to orbitting masses, except with a radial component.

If the earth were to suddenly blow up, a lot of pieces of it would stick to the moon because of its gravity. Provided that there was a large enough mass left, the moon could continue orbitting it, or if there was a smaller mass than the moon left (of the Earth) then the two would possibly combine into one lumpy mass that would eventually become a sphere like all of the other planets, or the Earth could begin orbitting the moon, which would be ironic..

I like that there are a lot of level headed unbiased people here, I try to be that way myself and when I fail someone will say something about it.

Other than that, I'm in it for playing your games and enjoying your humor.

I forgot to add that if you're really into drinking it usually isn't hard to find like-minded folks on frat row.  ;)

Join some clubs, it's a lot easier than approaching strangers. If you do that, then you're automatically part of a social group with a small membership fee.

At any given college there's probably a video-game group. If it's a large college you can probably join any group you can think of (especially if you're in the US and an ethnic minority).

I'm an electrical engineering major, so I joined the IEEE and a group called E-Kids. I met a lot of other people interested in electronics and in e-kids went around to elementary schools to teach 5th graders about engineering. It was a lot of fun and I met some awesome people.

College is awesome and there are loads of possibilities. Enjoy it as much as you can.

I'm not trying to argue about anything? You said you hadn't read the privacy policy, so I wrote what I gathered from it.

I wonder why there are so many prongs for a 12VDC power supply - it would seem like there would be a max of three unless it had two other voltage taps.

I could build a power supply - but the heaviness makes me think I wouldn't be able to do it for less than the $50 the merchants listed in that link charge because "heavy as a brick" means "huge ass transformer" and those are expensive.

Can you get a picture?

I looked up pictures of the Apple II to find out what kind of power cord it used - and it's just a regular computer power cord just like every other I've seen. Do a google or go to any local store that carries computer stuff and they'll have them.

I remember that computer - I once played Oregon Trails during recess. I hated that I had to load multiple disks to play. Somewhere at my high school there's a room full of them. I should break in there and get them all.

It seemed as though you were hinting that it was some kind of evil money making scheme. I only meant to point out that it isn't nearly as evil, for every reason Evenwolf pointed out.

I've read a lot of horror stories about the privacy policy, so I read through the entirety of the terms and conditions. To my understanding, no personal information is given away or sold and the sole reason it is probed (by bots only) is to give relevant ads, just like when you use the search engine.

The only way I could see personal mail being leaked is by the clause which states that if a subpoena was issued, they'd give up the mail readily. Basically, I didn't see anything in there that I wouldn't expect from every other free service.

Who doesn't need a full 1000mb of mail goodness!?

Obviously -- many people are going to think that, which means Google is making a shitload load of money on the ads.

Hotmail, Yahoo, and every other free email provider with any kind of large userbase make a shitload on ads too. However, they don't provide 1gb of storage.

A holographic viewport like that is possible, because I've seen stuff like it at Disney World. Surely they wouldn't put it up just because they were too lazy to model a screen.

I'm dissapointed that they didn't raise the pool a bit with transparent sides. That would have truly emphasized the water cube concept and made for some stunning visuals.

Any videos of the opposite stadium?

Openoffice.org will open word files AND convert to PDF. Free, open source, and almost as good as MS Office.

Downloading now.. and I just remembered something I said I would do last week that I'm working on now, Vel.  :o

This means about this [ ] much to any of you guys, but I've met a lot of Oklahoman politicians. For example, the two leading Senate candidates from my half of the state are both from Muskogee, Oklahoma, where I was raised and where the County Court House I work at is. I've met them both at different times, their names are Brad Carson and Tom Coburn.

Brad Carson gave me a few art awards when he was in the House of Representatives and apparently some hung in the Congressional hall somewhere (Blender rocked Congress!). I've also met him at a few political events while campaigning for my boss, I think he knows me by name now but who knows.

Tom Coburn is a Doctor and he gave my dad some sort of anal probe, I asked for details but it pains him to talk about it. So think about that the next time you hear your parents complain about politicians getting them "up the butt." My dad did, literally!

I think I'm going to vote for Brad.

I've also met a number of bands at the Warped Tour before they were famous, talked to them and etc. I would name them but it's pretty embarrassing now.

Mind you, I was around before then unregistered and with a different nickname. AHEM - n00b!

On a side note, I think the AGS history should include the hobbies I had when I was 16:
QuoteHobbies :: Flatulating, Beating up girls, stomping on puppies, eating carrots

Wow.

You can't just get angry at people who tell others to look past the graphics or say that the graphics aren't that great because I'm sure that when the majority of people say that, they don't mean, "The graphics don't suit the atmosphere of the game/don't show effort/aren't consistent/etc". I'm sure they mean, "The graphics aren't amazing works of art", and they aren't. The game is based on earlier games, and thus aren't as "good" as the graphics of a nowadays game's capabilities.

Yep, there's a difference between functional and artistic.

I have a feeling this thread was inspired by my recent comment about Larry Vales - did I break the last straw Eric?

The graphics of Larry Vales were superb, the game that had terrible graphics was called 6 Days an Assasin.

I think if we put our heads together we could come up with a lot of games that had cheesy Paintbrush graphics with questionable artistic value.   ;)

Final Fantasy intros are usually sweet.

If you can't do advanced animations and you don't want to, just don't. You could try and learn, but that takes a long time. In the end it's going to be whatever you feel like doing anyway, since few people would do it for you. I'm a plot lover though.. loads of AGS games have terrible graphics (Larry Vales?  :=) but are awesome games.
