Is it that hard to just try and find out?

sounds like a smart-ass comment to me.....

end of discussion.

Sounds like I didn't realize that a port was needed for a PocketPC, and so I thought you should just try it, because in fact, that's what happened. If you just want to get angry though, whatever. It's your life, live it in whatever emotional state you want.

I read your question, I just didn't understand it. No need to be an ass.

Isn't this supposed to be the release where they change how the file system works, thereby ruining everything?
I read that somewhere, so it must be true.

If you read the article, they decided not to impliment the WinFS.

""We've had to make some trade-offs to deliver the features corporate customers, consumers and OEMs are asking for in a reasonable time frame," said Jim Allchin, group vice president of the Platforms Group at Microsoft."

Ahhhh yes... Trade offs are a good thing! Can't wait!

And somehow, it seems perfect that he was so quick to add this:

Quote"Our long-term vision for the Windows platform remains the same."

They do it every few years somehow or another.. I'm surprised at how long XP has lasted (and will continue to last until 2006). I guess they're going with the rate of PC development.

A recap since 95..

95, 98, Me (1999), 2000, XP [and somewhere in there there's NT]

I mean, look at that.. for three years they released an OS each year, albeit only slightly modified.

Well, I guess we're stuck until CJ pops in and explains why it can't be done, or why it can but it won't, or why it will be someday. But I don't think he will, hasn't he had to participate in too many threads like this?

I did have a brief experiment with 3D characters. My conclusion was that it was certainly possible to do, but would require quite a bit of time and effort to integrate it properly into AGS.

The biggest stumbling block I found was trying to get a 3D program to export a file format that AGS could read in easily. Not managing to find one was what put pay to my experiment. Even 3dsmax's "ASCII export format" was hideously complicated and seemed to be missing bits.

Of course rendering a 3d model for the character with no adjustment for perspective and flat ambient lighting straight onto the background would be possible, and would require very little to change from the way things are now, there would be very little point in it.  The character may as well be pre rendered.

This is just it - I could probably implement that without too much trouble.. but then, without lighting and perspective there's no real advantage to it, as you say. And all the engine and editor adjustments that would be necessary to accomodate it do pretty much rule it out.

If I do ever add 3D character support to AGS, it is likely to be just to the basic level where a View is replaced by a 3D model - anything further would just complicate things too much to be worthwhile.

Is there anything more that needs to be said?

I mean, anything is possible to add to AGS if it is proven possible in other software. This just takes lots of time, and until someone wants to do it bad enough, no dice.

Does everyone agree that WIRED.com is legitimate?

IF they do, the they should read this....

http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html

Oh? Look's like it may be real?

Sorry for being sarcastic, but people tick me off when they speak ("iT's A ScAm") before they read.

P.S. IF anyone would still like to help me, hehe, Email me at Dran0@hotmail.com

While it iw real, it's still a pyramid scheme. Wired didn't say it wasn't, it just said you could get an iPod. The guy saying it wasn't a pyramid scheme was coincidentally a representative of the company giving away the iPods.

The math still works - eventually, the pyramid reaches the bottom and won't work anymore. The quote mentions that they aren't akin to Amway, who also vehemently denies being a pyramid scheme.

The idea isn't that you can't get an iPod, but that you can't just assume that you'll be able to find a lot of people to refer to because most people realize that in the end there are suckers and there is a good chance that they could be one of the suckers (suckers being the millions at the bottom with no one to refer).

What is this "g00n" business?

A callsign to indicate participation in the contest, it allows you to search eBay and quickly find all of the relevant auctions - though I don't know where the contest is being hosted from. I found the link at collegehumor.

Just personal preference.

Seems like it would be a bitch to animate though.

All of the "hauntings" are parodies of the haunted rubber duck that an overly zealous father was afraid to destroy, but willing to auction on eBay. I don't know if it was a joke or not, but it certainly struck a chord.

Yeah, that site is great.

If you're really into online resources, check out this post at a science forum I recently found. It has a listing of loads of stuff, and I found out that MIT publishes their courses online because of it.

The internet makes learning or wasting time easy, depending on what you're most interested in. ;)

Every now and then, on humor sites, there'll be an eBay auction with something crazy in it, either the description or the item. Now there is a contest to see who can come up with the craziest auction. Check it out.

This one has got to be my favorite.

Why? Zelda IS a adventure game. I think it should be there.

It's an RPG.

I wonder if you've heard of NES ROMs? You can play any NES game on your computer, if you can find the proper quasi-legal sites.

With all this talk about which console is better, I wonder if PC gaming really is dead?

http://www.mobygames.com/featured_article/feature,11/section,45/

What do all you think? Harsh reality or media scare?

Harsh reality. Most PC games are going to be ports from consoles or have very poor sales.

I think the reason consoles are popular is because you plug them in, put in the disc, and you play it. No complexity, no installation procedures or analyzing the system requirements, no need to shop for a gamepad that you know will work well for you, etc. etc. It's a great way to trust your kids with an expensive device without worrying that they're going to tap into Dad's digital porn stash or format the hard drive. As time goes on maybe people won't care as much (society will become more accustomed to computers), but right now the majority of the world hardly knows enough to use a computer with confidence in areas they haven't explored.

People want it to be easy and fast, and in America it hardly matters that there is already a PC in the house because people throw their money around rather wastefully on anything that entertains them. I think the statistic I heard was, "The average American adult has $30k in credit card debt."

There are dozen versions available.... Which one shows stuff in 3D? London is quite flat, atleast the look I had at it..

It's limited.. if you go to a really mountainous area that is mapped in hi-res then you'll see them pop up when you tilt the Earth. Mount St. Helens shows up, for one. It's in a sub-list to the right, one of this items at the top. I think it said "Sight seeing" or something.

I don't think they're going to make a shoddy sequel. They passed the original release date by far, they're not going to rush it. I think that means they're trying really hard to make it a worthy and better game than Halo 1.

I've heard you are going to be able to control entire Halos at parts and battle other space stations.

If this is a private sattalite imagine what government ones can do, read the newpaper in your hand

Yeah, that's been known for years.. people should have been more freaked out than they were by that stupid Will Smith movie, especially after the Patriot act.

It's a wonder they allow this stuff for civilian use. Imagine how easy that makes things for terrorists. Despite that it is all easily available stuff, it's like handing them a map. Actually, it is handing them a map.

How did you find DoubleFine's address? I couldn't find it anywhere, though my search was pretty half-assed.
