If it were me, I'd make him in 3d and use rendered 2d sprites.. but I know how to use a 3d prog, so that probably wouldn't work for you.

If you really wanted to be true to the original, there is a free 3d game engine that could do it, though you'd really need to learn to do the graphics yourself.

I miss the days when all games came in an oversized box with nice little treats inside. Now you buy a console game and it's just in a jewel or DVD case, same with many computer games.

Safe Mode isn't really necessary, is it?

Also, the Disk Cleaning Wizard is neat too.. It got rid of over 2 GB one time just by compressing old files

I already explained that, sort of.

When you boot in safe mode only the essentials are loaded. This means drivers and background programs that cannot be defragged because they are running in normal mode get defragged. These are the programs you MOST want to be defragged (so they will load and run faster, since they are constantly on), and you can't do it in normal mode because they are being used.

To enter save mode, press F8 during boot-up or hold ctrl (most likely F8). Or, your computer sounds so messed up that it probably asks to boot in safe mode every time you restart anyway.  :P

What LGM said.. I didn't want to type all of that though. Defrag after you do all of that, in safe mode, as I said before and you will be doing fine.

I think it totally floated over your head that laptops aren't like desktops man. They have one fan, one tiny 1 inch fan, to keep the entire thing cool. I leave mine on hibernation or standby a lot but never on unless I'm using it.

It is also still arguable that leaving a desktop on all the time could be good. There is a reason that there are standby and hibernation modes, which solve some of the problems you're talking about. Other problems are probably to do with you not knowing the cause, rather than having anything to do with restarting. If you have to shut things down with ctrl+alt+del then your computer is slowed by all of the crap you are running and probably locks up when you open more than a few programs at once too. Defrag your hard drive in safe mode after deleting everything you don't want (recycle bin, temp internet files, old unused files). It'll make a huge difference, and it is important to do it in safe mode so that as many system files as possible will be defragged.

Shbaz, I'm proud to be a member of AGS :D Why aern't you?

What? I'm a member of several forums.. there isn't a rule about singular loyalty.

If you've built effects pedals (I like making those too), you should take on a tube amp to finish off your tone pool (if you haven't already got one). SS amps suck. Click the AX84 link below.

Anyway, I don't get the point of your rant anymore. It's not for or against anything and you seem to know why people use MID files, so why did you ask?

Probably the wrist, that's where I've heard of access chips being implanted before. The most practical place would be your abdomen or thigh, but of course you can hardly go and scan your thigh-chip quickly when needed.

An antenna in the chip would exchange information with a reciever to grant access. It would probably connect to a GPS system to locate a person.

I posted something here that referred to something which wasn't said at all, so I'm going to sleep.

I never cheated until I got the internet (at age 14) and even then not very often.

I did buy the Myst guide though, because that game was hard as hell for a 12 year old.

Most of the MIDI files I've heard in AGS games sounded great though, you make it sound as if they're just shit and for people that are obsessed with old methods.

I play guitar too, and I'm a decent recording engineer, mediocre drummer, good bassist, I can build my own electrical equipment, and that would be all well and good for going .OGG if I had a drum set, a bass, low noise recorders, and the quality mics. I have to rely on friends for that stuff and my friends are unreliable. That's probably why most of these other people who play guitar don't do it, except some of them are probably even less able than me. Hey, I can't help it that I'm talented.  ;D

So what we're looking at here is a money issue. Few people have the money to get the good recording equipment and instruments, and lots of people have the free software to make MIDI files which can be distributed through free webhosts, unlike large 10+ mb games with true audio.

People are going to have to start putting provisions for their 'online' friends into their wills:

Please post a message on the AGS Forums informing all my Adventure Friends that I have been killed by "The Pirates of Pestulon" and no longer have to worry about the walking deads ...

I've thought about doing that before, actually.. not for a forum, but for several very good friends that I've known for years and only talked to through the internet. I guess I could make provisions for the forum too, but I doubt anyone would notice me being gone until someone mentioned Blender and someone else said it sucked and there was that awkward month where I didn't say anything about it.

Are Dell laptops bad???Ã,  That's funny, because the old Dell desktop computer I got back in the late 1990s is still up and running fine.Ã,  Maybe it's just the laptops.

Dell once made great computers with quality parts, but as they got more and more popular the quality went down and down. They started using the lowest bidder, rather than the highest quality part.

Laptops are especially hard to design (if you're looking to create long-term reliability) because making stronger casing to resist drops is unpopular (people want the laptop to be super-light) and the intense heat that is created inside that tiny space causes the PC board to expand and contract a lot, which weakens the bonded metal wires and solder joints (causing open circuits inside your computer). Laptops have an expected lifetime of ~2-3 years, counting in drops and hardware failure. If you're one who leaves his laptop on a lot (like my old roomate) then your laptop will likely see an early death because of overheating and stressing the components. The cheap Dell parts don't help any at all. While my roomate's computer failed because of his blatant retardation (I warned him about this several times) the other two laptops on my dorm floor failed for other reasons.. shoddy hardware. One was a hard drive that was making weird noises as it spun after its failure, and the other stopped turning on its fan for some reason. So far as I know this was not abuse, but just something that suddenly happened.

My advice is to get something Japanese. Those people are great and dedicated engineers. My Toshiba has worked flawlessly, as I'm sure most do (discounting retards who leave their computers on 24/7 for no reason). I actually didn't pick it out, my father did, but I've been happy with it as have my friends with Satellites.

Actually thats not true... it's not American soil, it's Sovern Iraqi soil that we are borrowing for the time being.

Maybe my info is outdated, my Vietnam-vet history teacher told me that American military bases were considered American soil, whether temporary or not. It could have been changed by now, or he could have been wrong. He was a crazy guy.

I remember the troll now.. It's been so long. I think I was 7 or 8 years old when I first played that game. The last time was when I first discovered Kazaa, years ago. Thanks for correcting me.

MI is definately a must-play. Great art, great music, great story.

It's a useless item you can get an infinite amount of in Monkey Island 1. It's been a while since I played it but I think you can go to catch it, then feed it to something, then catch it again and the cycle repeats indefinately. Used to refer to other useless/futile items, posts, etc.

The versions I had weren't, they were on floppies.

Yeah, I was just planning on buying a finished neck and body. I'd never try to do that sort of thing myself, especially for my first guitar. Mostly I just want to learn about wiring pickups and things like that, so I might be better off just getting a cheap Squire or something and mod it.. But it's a shame to waste nice custom pickups on a plywood guitar  :-\

If you can't tell it's plywood and you play distorted, there's hardly a difference. If you play clean, there's a minor noticable difference, but it really only matters if the body is hollow.

If all else fails, buy used or a less notorious brand-name. You can always sand off the headstock and replace it with your name.
