General Discussion / Re: 5,450 tv tunes online

I like that alot of these seem to have been recorded by sticking a crappy microphone up to the TV.

In Word 2000 (and probably other versions) you can go to Tools/Auto Correct to change some of these settings.

I would play the mp3 file in another program (like Windows Media Player) and make sure that the screech isn't coming from the file itself, because I have no idea how AGS could cause that.

There are two commands associated with music volume:

SetMusicMasterVolume() - which sets the overall music volume for the game.
SetMusicVolume() - which is room specific. (and can be setup in the room editor)

For these to work, I think you have to use the PlayMusic() function, not the PlayAmbientSound() function.

The Global Variables pane doesn't let me insert negative default values for integers.

But remember the movie named Saw?
A room. Two men chained to pipes. Corpse in the middle. Mystery.

Wasn't this, well, brilliant?
Or the Cube? Again, simple idea making an ultimate sci-fi.

I don't mean gore here, but helping carebear find all the happy toys and get out of closet wouldn't be so interesting.

OK. So we take a carebear, and chain him to a pipe and the only thing within reach is a seamripper...

You just have to select hotspot ID 0 (either by the dropdown box or by using the select area tool on a space with NO COLOR) and then use the fill tool on the area you want to wipe.

I gotta say, really high on my wish list is the ability to change custom property values during runtime.

Or, if that's too hard/not happening any time soon, maybe we could get something along the lines of a built-in String property on everything (like character[].flag, object[].flag, etc.) that we could use for whatever.

I would fall in love with that feature.

EDIT: Second highest on my list would be to have a dialog.GetOptionText function.

The only problem I could see with trying to use the background frames is that the game is going to try to conastantly cycle through them, so you'd have to constantly call the Room.SetBackgroundFrame function in order to maintain any level of control over which background is being displayed.

Read more about the Dynamic Sprites and I would use the Room.GetDrawingSurfaceForBackground function (which would mean you'd need all the extra backgrounds loaded into sprite slots - well, you could load them from files, but you'd have to distribute those files with the game, so sprites would be better.)

Hope this helps.

...and the graphics arent STUNNING but they are good, and the puzzles and story are infinitely more important than graphics. Good luck, I'm looking forward to it!!

Angel Dust might be working with me to do some better graphics, so stay tuned for that.

Also, I have some music samples: Opening Theme Song, and During Gameplay Music

Crap! It DOES look like Bill Clinton.  *laments...

I wasn't planning on much of a puzzle sequence on the airplane. It is more of a get to know the interface/introduction sequence, but maybe I can find a way to make it a little more fun.

the topic of this game is near and dear to my heart.... I'm digging it so far!

GREAT JOB!

Look out! Here comes my second game (AGS or otherwise). If you've played the first game I made, Quimby Quest. then... well... I pity you. It was sort of fun, maybe? But this one promises to be way better in almost every way - better story, better story-telling, better game play, better puzzles, better graphics!

The Story:
The plot is an homage to the 1963 film, Charade, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Amelia "Mel" Young is unhappy with her marriage and decides she needs some time and space to think about her future, so she goes to visit an old friend in Paris. When she arrives there she discovers that her husband had been killed and that - unbeknownst to her - he was involved in the illegal trafficking of U.S. government secrets. Who was the man she married, really? Meanwhile, her new acquaintence, Sam Case, is involved in the plot more deeply than he'll openly admit, and an unknown third party is threatening her unless she produces the secrets her husband stole. She doesn't know whom to trust and is left to get to the bottom of her dead husband's secret life before it's too late....

Screenshots:

Development Progress:
Story: 95%
Scripting: 45%
Dialog: 5%
Puzzles: 75%
Graphics: -1% (Angel Dust has dropped out of the project, hopefully not permanently)
Sound/Music: 50%
It's probably too early to give an accurate completion date, but I'm hoping by the end of 2008.

Updates:
2008-06-13 - Here is the *final version of the: Theme Song (*more or less). Additionally, Angel Dust indicated he wasn't going to be able to help with art any more, so I'm back to the drawing board there. I can draw well enough for the player to distinguish between a building and a kitty cat, but I would really rather have living, breathing characters and background art with personality. That, I can't do. So if anyone is interested, please PM me.
2008-04-27 - First Drafts of some music: Opening Theme Song, and During Gameplay Music
2008-04-20 - I started this awesome production thread.

you can't do any of that until you get past the security guard in the club and go down the hall. Once you do that, Ben will give you the schematic.
