Generally, ransom notes aren't handwritten because handwriting can be traced. Maybe you should find an alternate method of getting words or letters onto a piece of paper.... for example, words and letters are printed in newspaper.

If you can't get him a girl, maybe he'll settle for something reminiscent of a girl. Have you been to the Book Store recently?

Lakerz,  Thanks

Spoiler
The band members say something about distracting Alex with a girl.  Does that ring any bells for you?

I really like this game so far, I appreciate effort to customise the interface and the humour works, but I'm stuck embarassingly early:
Spoiler
Ok, I've got the newspaper, postcard, ornament, the broken and unbroken bottles and the label. I've got no idea how to proceed next, I'm guessing I've probably overlooked something in the University book place but I dunno.

Did you ask Sarli how he keeps the place so neat?
Spoiler
if you did, John's new bed should appear. Try looking at the stain on the mattress, and see if that helps you.

Glad you're liking the game!

Thanks for the feedback so far, I have revised quite a bit and fixed some bugs, hopefully the new version will be to everyone's liking.

CHANGES:
- Increased resolution to allow for a smaller, but legible verb coin.
- Moved dialog to be on the screen, instead of below it.
- Fixed error in Instruction Sequence that would cause a crash if you try to skip while an inventory item is selected.

Overall a big thumbs up, especially considering this was your first effort developing in AGS I presume?

To be fair, it isn't the first AGS game I've started, but it IS the first AGS game I've finished.

Quotehowever the dialogue itself being written under the game screen is somewhat annoynig since I'm used to loooking at the screen to read the text over the characters' head and the GUI

I completely agree. Otherwise, it's quite an enjoyable little game! The graphics, although an odd mix of great art, MS word art & pretty basic art - was still fab. Reminded me of my old QB games! The music was nice, the story seemed quite fun - but the dialogue formatting was a bit odd. And every so often it would miss out a single word, which would then appear - i.e. "It" or "went" etc. That to me seemed like time wasting. I actually then found it quite hard to concentrate on the playing area and then read the text. Also, I hit ESC during the tutorial intro (I was looking in the guitar case) and the game crashed.

Keep it up :)

I really appreciate the feedback! I should have an updated version up tonight that fixes that bug (not something that I found during testing) and I've scaled up the graphics so I could make the verbcoin smaller without it looking like garbage.

The game looks cool. Download link doesn't work, though.

The game is finished. I wasn't sure if it's normal to post that here, or just start a new thread in Completed Game Announcements, so I decided to do both to be safe. I hope everyone enjoys playing this one.

I would prefer an actual in-game screenshot and not the logo screen, but I likeÃ,  language and violence so I'm downloading it. Will give feedback in a few days when I play it.

P.S. Is the Quimby name taken from Mayor Quimby from the Simpsons?

The game features the band Vote Quimby, whose name is taken from Mayor Diamond Joe Quimby of the Simpsons.

I finally finished my first game (medium length). I really worked hard to make sure it would be something that people would enjoy playing. WARNING: There is some strong language and some moderately graphic violence (it would have been more graphic, if only I were able to draw it).

The file includes a cheesy playable instruction sequence (more for people who AREN'T used to playing adventure games) and a pdf explaining the same crap as the intro.

I look forward to your feedback on how I can make this game or future games better. I really hope you all enjoy it.

I'm really looking forward to this game! Looks great.

I read the blog, but it didn't really say what the game was about. Anyway, I can code fairly well and I'm finishing up a project (also a point & click adventure). I'll let you know when it's done if you want to see exactly "I can code fairly well" means.

Does anyone know a good reliable site for hosting ags games? I'm having trouble finding one that I can actually get onto. Game is going to be about 12MB.

Thanks.

Alright, I've been working on my very first Adventure Game off and on for about a year, now. By first, I really mean the first that will be completed. I've started other project that have helped me learn how to use AGS to its full potential (and still learning). Like most people who use AGS, I grew up on old school adventure games, and never got enough of them. So, I guess it's my turn to make an amateur game. I did my best to make it fun to play, with plenty of goofy dialog, and moderately tricky to solve. Most likely future games will have multiple difficulty settings. Unfortunately, I've always been pretty good with coding, and writing, but have never had an ounce of talent of visual artistry. The screenshots should say it all.

STORY
You play as Ren McCormack. After finding out that the band Vote Quimby has fired their rhythm guitarist, Ren decides he's going to join their band. Little does he know that Vote Quimby won't make it easy for him. Alex, Vote Quimby's drummer, sends Ren on the most ridiculous errands, and Ren will have to be creative in order to meet the band's demands.

SCREENSHOTS

PROGRESS
The game is about 99% done across the board, I'm just having some friends beta test it and ironing out some quirkiness with the way the characters interact. The game should be done in about a week or two. I've had so much fun writing the story and making the game work that I'm already in the pre-planning stages of the next two installments...
Quimby Quest II - Advertisemento Strikes Back
and
Quimby Quest III - Return of the Dead Guy

FUTURE
I would LOVE to work with other people to make games, particularly people that are good with graphic design, and especially animation, but any collaboration would be fantastic!
