How far is too far?

Good question.

I expect culture may play a role in this as well as other groups.

My views (as an uncivilized westerner):

Generally, whatever you deal with should be true to itself in terms of what you should allow players to see and what THEY expect to see.

If you deal with a violent group then violence is what the players expect, not just a slap on the wrist.

Nudity, well, if it's tastefully done, provocative and true to the story that's fine but showing what could be termed as a 'porno' is I think too far for say AGS. EG: A fat, ugly woman in a nighty beckoning a young lad on could be conceived as 'provocative' yet 'funny'.

The people who love gore should be allowed, if warned, to view it in its true form. In games/films it is all pretend and no one actually gets hurt, most people are not that stupid.

If they WANT to see a guy get chainsawed then let them. An example would be a train going over someone cutting them in 3. If they are warned about the game content then it is their choice whether they play it or not.

Look at Quake, Doom and others like it, you go around blasting enemy brains out!! As in 'Hostel', the viewers who expect gore get gore in spades.

In this day and age the limits have been well pushed forward and not much is taboo, except stuff like rape,incest and bestiality etc.

Forewarned is foretold, they say.

It is coming soon, we just keep adding more to it.  I'd rather see it take longer and be better than rush the release.  The game now features far more puzzles and characters than originally envisioned!

The Shadow Avenger urgently needs a competent tester because of the complex nature of this game.

The aim is to kill gang members who slain your parents.

It is quite a tangled web, non linear, solution wise, which is why it needs another party to test.

I do believe there are no dead ends at the moment.

Meanwhile I have some tweaking to do like working more on background, text etc etc.

Please PM if you have time (ie not going away for a fortnight).

Mainly the desire to learn and to make my written and/or thought ideas become a reality.

The Shadow Avenger promises to break out of my usual linear games.

The main character (The Shadow) is only seen as a silhouette. He does not walk (as in move around the screen) but he does Interact, Look and Talk.

Inventory use is shown, as in showing a baseball bat with its animation (if applicable) only.

I will show more update screens soon along with a video.

The Shadow Avenger: It's personal

12 years have passed since that fateful day when your parents were murdered by a gang of evil thugs!

Over the years your mind has been tormented by its sinister darkside!

You have changed: from a mild mannered young boy to a disturbed, neurotic adolescent hell bent on retribution!

You have spent your time preparing yourself to avenge your parents murders!

You have recently learnt from an old snout, for a pack of cigarettes, that the gang involved in your parents deaths were the Endel gang. They must pay! They must suffer as you have!

The time is right. The time is now. It's time for 'The Shadow' to cast his special blend of justice on all those responsible!!

Find the gang responsible and bump them off in the most horrific ways.

"I must be silent and remain in the shadows."

"Agh!! It's bit my balls and now it's chewing its way into my intestines!!"

"He must be immune to the shit drugs they use these days!!!"

Watch out for with the odd wisecrack.

"It must have bitten off more than it can chew!"

Potato Head - Sweet Attack!

As Potato Head you have to get as many sweets and cakes as you can by jumping, leaping, swimming and using your Inventory items.

5 levels to keep you going for a while.

Levels include:

* Jumping up to grab sweets
* Leaping over gaps
* Swimming to get sweet stuff
* Cracking open an Alien Sweet Egg
* Facing a man-eating Shark!
* Meeting a Mermaid
* Driving a Moon Buggy
* Betting on a Pony race
and more....

This is more a fun game then a deadly serious adventure game. All this as well as upbeat, cheesy music

with just Game reading text set at 15 the DisplayAt was showing for about 5 seconds only (4 strings.)

Was it actually failing to read all strings and stopped after first %s?

After fiddling around I use the Game.MinimumTextDisplayTimeMs set at 40000 alonf with Game reading text and it then seemed to be ok.

This would save time trying different numbers to get the right tint colour.

I have just noticed that DisplayAt is not displaying text as Display does as it is not complying with Game.TextReadingSpeed which I have as 7.

I need to position text due to screen area.
