So tired...looks like I won't be using a custom avatar after all. I blame my splendidly fantastic wireless printer that does everything except talk to my computer(!)

Oh well, exponentially increasing numbers of rabbits it is;-)

This is truly an amazing piece of work Dual/Wyz, I had dreams about an AGS Awards ceremony like this. It is going to be amazing!

See you tomorrow!

You don't need to provide your own avatar, stray. The game comes with a selection of default ones to choose from (though you might end up wearing the same thing as someone else, in case you find that sort of thing mortifying).

That would be a disaster(!) Nah, not so worried about what i'll be wearing (naked on all fours is just fine=P ) Just unsure as to whether I need to register to join via the game/is there a limit on numbers/which download link to use and whatnot.

Damn a lot of stuff happens around here without me noticing..

..and here I was, disappointed that there wouldn't be a game-style awards after checking out the archived 2008 version and just savouring the possibilities. I even put my pretend coder cap on again and messed around with Wyz's original code in the hopes I would have come up with something myself. (I actually understood more than I thought I would and it was FUN, but fruitless i'm afraid).

So uh, am I too late to register? I don't have a character but maybe I can go for a marathon session tonight and cobble something together that will make you puke. If not, i'll settle for the normal low-res retro irc channel.

Awesome work Dual et al. You are legends. Enough said.

General Discussion / Re: I did a Tumblr.

I don't really have a big interest in politics (I know, I know, everything's political in one way or another and even I jump on the bandwagon now and again) but I think the idea of "political comment in pixels" is pure genius.

I really like what you've done so far; it's the retro version of the broadsheet's political cartoons. I look forward to seeing more.

Holy smokes, Pinback! I'm going to have my hands full topping that!

You've got nothing to worry about - that was brilliant! The voice acting was superb and I loved all the little touches with the electrics and the blue cup(s). Five/Six attempts but I couldn't save him: wasted precious seconds waiting for the rescue team to finish their coffee;-)

I'm with Dual: this is a really tough one to call. Both fantastic entries=D

Where is the music in Beacon from? The credits disappeared before I could find the responsible.

Played it again just for you - and I don't see it! Unless it was Dual..

Wow, that's the best poster ever!! Looks amazing!!  :D

EDIT: Finished, congrats that was awesome.

Ah crap, that means it's my fault i'm stuck=P It's brilliant so far though, the graphics and the voice acting are top notch. This is a really impressive MAGS effort=)

EDIT: Finished! (I took a break and started writing a screenplay..honest!) I knew exactly what to do, turns out I wasn't using the inventory properly. Great little game=D

Just wanted to wish the entrants well coming into the final push. I really liked the theme for this one and i've had an old idea that would've suited perfectly but I didn't have the time to really do it justice. I'm looking forward to playing these games!

Just a few days left now. Stay tuned for a special edition MAGS March!

Maybe the 'special' bit is just the kick up the ass I need to enter..

Welcome to the forums David, I look forward to seeing what you're working on. Thanks for the heads up about Pinboard.in - looks like a bookmarking site I could actually use since Delicious just doesn't work for me.

Dave tweeted it will be released at 12 noon EST so I make that about 1700hrs for those of us in the UK (I read somewhere that EST is 5 hours behind GMT)

So here's an idea that came to me just now in those delirious moments before I drift off to sleep: I was thinking of making my own boxed versions of my favourite AGS games, and for no other reason than my fondness for physical media and my obsession with filling any spare patch of floor in our room.

Bear with me, this is Nexus related!

Then I started thinking about compilations and how you'll get boxsets of games under a common theme. I know we've discussed different metadata for the games in Nexus - that alone has me drooling - but I'm thinking, what about a Nexus version of iTunes' Genius? You know, like the compilations of different music genres you get in Genius. Although better than Genius which never seems to give me a decent playlist (or maybe that's just my rubbish music collection!). This is all covered by the metadata, of course, but there could be interesting compilations to group different games together.

Anyway, it's not like you guys don't have enough to do, i'm just throwing it out there. I haven't really thought it through.

G'night y'all.

Ahhh... a demo?  ;D... Too late for me, I couldn't resist anymore and preordered the game days ago  :-[ ... I don't want to try the demo...... I can resist, I can resist, only one day left, only one day left  ;D ;D

Tick, tock, tick, tock...oh how those hours are going to drag..try it, you know you want to;-)

Demo was great. A very gentle introduction but it set up the mystery perfectly. I can't wait for the full release and i'm looking forward to giving it a full write up=)

P.S. It's gorgeous. I could watch that main menu for hours...

I did another one and now I ran into a problem: You see the house? everything elseis fine but the house is awkwardly shaded - i just didnt know how to approach the shading - suggestions or even an overpaint are highly appreciated.

I'll chip in my humble opinion, though goodness knows I lack any sensible art skills to speak of..

I think the problem you're having with the house is the (lack of a) light source. The rest of the level seems to be lit by those alien looking plants (um, unless it's underwater which, you know, would also be awesome..). It looks FANTASTIC but there's no equivalent light source near the house.

I think artificial lighting from inside the house would help, yes, but what about the background? Is there going to be a natural light source like the sun or the moon back there? What time of day is it? Looking at the top of the landscape, particularly around the well and on the right hand side, would suggest there's a light source up above. Yet the top of the house remains in shadow.

Probably not very helpful at all though. I'll just slink off back to my scribbles now.

Phemar's post prompted me to log in again after too long. Even on my low res settings, the graphics are much improved.

More impressive is what you've all been up to - this world is disturbingly coherent and some of the structures (AGS coliseum, AGS Forum) are really clever. Also, I loved the 'corporate takeover' of the hotel I started yonks ago;-)

I need to make more time to play MC again=)

Sure, Ben did a nice tutorial somewhere around here - he got me the idea to start with a plain dark shape and "carving out" the lightning. I also studied the BGs from Airwave, cause I thought they where lovely.

Theo did a quick tutorial of his workflow - sketching cleaning, volume shading (which was very helpful for me - doing the shading fist and thinking about color later). The HD screens gave me also a good insight into the way he was doing them

*Possibly* you're referring to these?

AGS Games in Production / Re: Pencil Worlds
Sat 19/02/2011 16:17:57
Nice idea. I've seen something similar in 2D side scrollers and FPS'es but not in an adventure game yet (though there might be something like this in the games database already). I like to see games where the graphics aren't (or at least pretend not to be) computer generated, instead based on tangible real life materials: think the brush strokes in Okami, the torn paper in And Yet It Moves, or the stopmotion inspired The Dream Machine/Cletus Clay games.

Goodluck, I look forward to seeing more of this one=)
