No, I wasn't able to fix the security issues with the .exe (i.e. a malicious third party able to break the ceremony).

That's a shame :(

Just as a suggestion, it would be interesting to have the awards in AGSCraft one time. Though I haven't played it in a long time myself, and I can understand how it would take away from the awards and put people off. IRC is perfectly fine and I will aim to be there.

Note, the reminder at the top of the forums says '20:00 Tomorrow Saturday 23rd March' - I thought it was UK time so this is wrong. Just sayin'  ;)

I look forward to your wedding via live stream in the perhaps not so distant future (laugh)
Lol, we're geeks but I don't think my other half would go for that! This was my excuse for missing AdventureX by the way - I know, it's nowhere near good enough

General Discussion / Just a wee bit of news..

Happy New Year everyone!

So.. I spent a week in New York just before Christmas and had a wonderful time. I also got engaged

Thanks to the friendly, generous peoples of The Big Apple I was able to pull off a scavenger hunt for my partner with clues throughout the city and the proposal at the end over dinner. We are both very happy and very excited about the coming wedding.

As my first trip to the U.S. it was unforgettable

Best of luck Dual, I hope you learn much from the experience. It won't be the same around here without you, I look forward to your return. It's not a question of 'if' you'll be back.. You will

Belated Happy Christmas and best wishes for the coming year.

Sooo I'm flying off to New York a week on Monday for a little pre-Christmas holiday!!

Aside from the usual tourist traps, and geeking out on the feeling of being in a CSI episode, has anyone been to the Big Apple who can perhaps recommend some places to go/things to do etc?

Wow, this looks absolutely gorgeous. I love all the attention to detail and I wouldn't have guessed the characters were 3D. It has a very warm, whimsical feel to it. Really looking forward to this one :)

Congrats on reaching the funding target!! I'll only be able to make the Sunday and i'm jetting off to NYC the next morning, but I'm super excited this is going ahead. Especially looking forward to Rebecca's VA talk  :-D

Wow, congratulations both of you, hope all goes well!!

Done,

If I remember correctly, I think I used SurveyGizmo for my dissertation as the free version allowed more than just 10 questions. It's not clear from their website though if that is still the case. More is not necessarily better though, you need to consider your questions carefully

I've also never thought of adventure games as turn-based, but I can completely see the justification for such a view point. Interesting!

Good luck with your classes!

Woo! Your timing couldn't be better! I fly out to New York on the 17th  Will definitely try to make this one!

Yes, I understood the intent with the latest mod post to be a summary of this case and a call for discussion on how future cases should be handled. The mods themselves mentioned that this is not the only case being looked at. I think singling out AnasAbdin or jumping to prove/disprove the accusations is best left for PMs to the mods from anyone who has concerns, otherwise this topic will quickly spiral out of control.

Given that we haven't had an explicit rule prohibiting such behaviors, we would like to ask the community for input on how we should proceed in the future. We wouldn't normally expect to make this big a deal of fake accounts, but we feel this has been going on for so long, and affected so many members, that some sort of closure is necessary. As previously mentioned, this is not the only case we are looking at, and further announcements may follow.

We should, however be wary of witchhunts and information like this should only be released if the moderators are certain of foul play.

I agree.

I think it is important for the Mods to carry out investigations like these behind closed doors, giving the suspected culprit the chance to explain themselves, and only once they are found guilty or have declined to prove otherwise should a report be released publicly so that the community is aware and can remain vigilant against this kind of abuse.

Given the report set out above, it looks like the Mods have handled this one sensibly and I would encourage this approach again in future.

i love this movie.. didn't get it from the first screen shot though,
firestarter?

I think so too, great film  You bet me to it, but I was just surprised to see a film in here I actually think I recognise. I didn't recognise the other screenshot though..

Ponch, I have to applaud you..

The historical accuracy is bringing back a lot of memories. Unfortunately most of them are embarrassing and I feel sick and dizzy just looking at that site now. I'm sooo glad we've learned from our mistakes.

Clearly you haven't. You are one demented cow.

(I love you for this )

Looks seriously very cool to me 8-) If a timing can be found to suit and it's practical to get some gear there, I vote yes to this. Unfortunately I don't drive, but I am willing to offer my wimpy muscles for equipment lugging duty around the London Underground. Just don't ask me for directions ???

What if the museum was included in the credits of the game [...]
I normally leave the room or do something else while credits roll, That may keep them interested enough.

I almost always watch the credits the whole way through, just to see if there's a little reward for doing so, even a simple 'thank you for playing our game' (because that touches my heart and is meant especially for me of course ). Yes, I am that guy who sits in the movie theatre until the credits are finished..

Some ideas:

1) A physical dvd box - this is reason enough for me to preorder/kickstarter your project. I want a proper box I can put on my shelf and show off, not some intangible digital code.
2) Early beta access - not sure what the reception would be asking people to pay for a beta, but I think they may have done this for Frozen Synapse. Minecraft pretty much did this too. Just the community input would create a nice feeling all round.
3) Development videos, concept art etc - doesn't matter how messy, just getting the inside scoop on the development process is very rewarding and inspirational
4) The Game Soundtrack - i'm not too moved by this, it would have to be an amazing soundtrack, but it's a nice touch
5) Signed posters, mugs, t-shirts, mousemats - doesn't have to be super expensive, just having some ordinary little nik-nak that is game-related would please me something silly
6) Feelies - maps, mini-comics, your short stories for those who didn't pick them up seperately, an object from the game (look at the handmade stuff on Etsy, you can knock stuff together from all kinds of objects)
6) Similar to the museum idea - a fan-art gallery either as part of the game (a photo album or something similar that suits) or outside it, like at the end of the credits
7) My name in the credits - i'm putting this last because it's really overdone imho. I do like it, and I like to be recognised as having helped out, but that doesn't mean I should get my name in the credits just for throwing $10 at a game. That's not exactly creative input.

Every (wo)man and his/her dog seems to be doing kickstarters these days so I think the more creative the rewards, the more it will stand out.

Anyway, the game is looking great so far, can't wait to order a copy

I'd definitely be up for this again  I wasn't that keen on the venue so i'm not too sorry to see it go, although admittedly I had to rush off at the end so I missed the bar entirely! I'll try to make a proper few days of it this time. Location-wise, anywhere within easy reach of London by train really, which opens up a lot of options as you can get an hour away from London at really reasonable prices. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country though Liz didn't appreciate the long walk back to our B&B. I think something in town would open up more options for pub crawls, meals and stuff.

The presentations last time were excellent so more waxing lyrical on your games please. Not too fussed about who you get though i'd rather hear from my fellow AGSers than anyone else. You're all celebrities in my eyes

EDIT: Oh and throw up a donate button will ya?

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Shifter
Sat 23/06/2012 17:38:43
This is Pick of the Month and mentioned on the BlueCupTools Podcast! Hooray!

I thoroughly enjoyed the game, what a clever idea! Being able to learn about the other characters besides just talking to them was a nice touch with a lot of room for ideas. I got into a few situations where characters saw me as me rather than the character I was copying but overall it was really well put together. I loved the character portraits and talking animations, though it would've been nice to have a little music.

I definitely think this has the potential to be implemented as a larger game, you could have a lot of fun with that
