Micek, I tried doing what you said but it turns out there's no digital display on my phone!

MrColossal did a really cool animation of a man shooting a gun a while back, but it was in more of a Pulp Fiction stance.  Someone probably knows where it is...it might be helpful

looks like 3d renders with photo textures, and a little 2d compositiong of the rendered elements and more photo textures...?

the outhouse doesnt look detailed enough

overall the rocks and grass and stuff look really nice and detailed

the black falloff doesn't seem like it would be very practical in an adventure game

a MMO server setup does not HAVE to cost a lot of money

i imagine that most of them cost money because those games rely on continuous updates, etc

if the only thing that the server was being used for was providing a meeting place in towns, then the server would not really need to do anything more than essentially be a chat room...and those are pretty cheap

looks much better at high res

at low res, i can barely see the difference

his brown hat looks like hair in the low res because its so small...might want to change the color to blue or something to make that more evident

massively multiplayer could still work if it were done like Tribes...where there are central towns in which you can see everyone, which you use to find people to party up with, but then when you go off to accept a quest or something, you dont see the people outside of your party and their actions dont affect your party's quest.

also it could allow for new kinds of puzzles, which require more than 1 person to solve

sigh.  i am so bad at adventure games...could anyone give me a hint how to get the first door open?

Yeah, I have Uru...it was not a very good game.  The puzzles were too hard...and the environment was not very immersive, it had good graphics whoopee but that doesn't make the game.  And also, it never even went online to my knowledge.

It could be done either using some kind of a cartoonish 3d fantasy world like WoW...or it could even be in the form of a 2D view like KQ.  Why not.

this is something I'd love to see.

there are plenty of RPG mmorpg's...of course they all rely on killing monsters and quest solving....but I think it would be great if there were some that focused around puzzle solving.Ã,  They could still incorporate fighting to encourage teammates to play together (to bump heads together over the puzzles as well as work together to defeat monsters).Ã,  Instead of getting XP from killing you could get XP from solving puzzles.

The game could have one (or a few) MAJOR puzzles/quests...that would kind of be sitting in the background and perhaps never be completable, or only be completable after a bunch of expansions or something, and they could keep adding new puzzles to the game world as time went on...

edit: just noticed the other similar post

My favorite puzzle:

aligning the chess pieces in Broken Sword 1

Most hated puzzle:

It's hard to have a single most hated puzzle...but I really didn't like all the jumping onto stones puzzles in KQ: Mask of Eternity, because there werent any clues...so you just have to die thousands of times trying to figure out what pattern they are looking for.  I mean any puzzle that is impossible to solve without dying at least a few times is just not a well designed puzzle.

InCreator, your comments are good but you've introduced even bigger problems in your edit that make the new one worse imo.

firstly, by adding texture to the sand, you have made it look like a vertical flat wall because you have applied uniform texture.  without texture, we could easily imagine the sand to go backwards and just assume any texture is too small to distinguish.  i thought this looked ok before.

also, your image is really large and slow to load and now it appears to be a broken link...not sure why.  anyway, the uniform gradient applied to the sea doesn't look good.  yes the sea should get darker, but this should be done by hand (pixelated)...and it shoudl not be so gradual.

the color of the grass is now not as good...and there is too much darkenss especially at the top, it takes away from the sunny look

QuoteIt would, before the check was added. But now it's not possible to make an "infinite loop" anymore, since there's a safe-guard feature that will exits the game nicely with an error message after a while loop had been executed for some large number of loops (can't remember the exact limit).

Yes, I mentioned that...but I think you can still probably write an infinite loop by doing something clever like bouncing between loops and changing variable states or something.

I would be surprised if an infinite loop in AGS script would actually crash the computer...but then again I didn't program it so I don't know.  But, AGS is pretty good about catching potential infinite loops with an exception (which isn't crashing :P).

I wish I could understand better what you're trying to do, though...because whatever it is, I'm sure that an infinite loop is not the answer

Halo is just so much better than Halo 2...

Is the sand dune meant to be shaped like a wave?

the texture on the palm tree is way off, you should look at a real palm tree for referece

the grass should not be vertical.  beach grass is not lush green like that, either

one thing you did do very well is the water

Looks good but the sky should be pixelated like the rest of the BG
