oops, I said GB didn't I?  For some reason I was thinking 100 MB = 1 GB...oh well, I MEANT 100 MB, which still seems large to me...but I just looked at all the file sizes and it seems to be be correct.

#642
My game is already 1 GB and I don't even have much in it yet...I'm not sure how it is getting so big, unless...does it compress and contain everything that is in the AGS game folder?

cool!

this sounds a lot more fun that crappy space invader clones which are more boring to play than dreaming about being a space invader.

I'm looking for someone with a cool narrator voice to read my introduction sequence for a cutscene :)

I would like an old-man voice...so if you're an old man that would be great...

hmm...

i don't think there are very many old men who frequent this forum...

anyway, maybe someone has a grandfather or is comfortable asking their parents to help them out with stuff like that....

after the guitar comes in...make a flute come in

when the second guitat melody (the lower one) comes in, the first 3 notes are good, then it's bad.  instead of whatever notes come after these first 3....make it play the original melody in this lower tone.

i think those'll help a lot

happy music making

QuoteI am worried... I must confess that when I read "scan your body and make 3d models of you" I instantly thought in a dildo...   I must be becoming a sicko...

no man, it's genious: personalized dildos for your girlfriend.  im going to make this company tommorrow.

Critics' Lounge / Introduction cutscene

I know...I posted the intro screen...and now the cutscene...don't worry I'm not going to show you guys everything about the game, I just want to make sure that the introduction is quality because that's the most important part.

So, just look over the narrator speech here, and tell me if it sounds ok.  I have a feeling it sounds a bit dry and uninteresting.

[hard drive breathes a sigh of relief as, after over an hour, the animation for the last line of this cutscene has finally completed being rendered...yey!]

ALSO....once I am satisfied with this, would anyone who thinks they have a good narrator voice volunteer to do a voice recording of it?

[fade from black to view of map of Frealand]

"The people of Frealand were as wide and varied as their country was vast."

"Between the mountains to the west, and the cold sea cost to the north and east, they lived in relative harmony without threat of war."

[cut to view of statues of the warrior kings, King Eichnar and King Caroth, each riding standing horses sharing a pedestal in the center of Aldor]

"They had gone without war since the ancient reign of King Caroth nearly 200 years ago."

"Frealand was safe.  At least, for most people."

"But there was a secret war being waged..."

"...one that had endured the passage of time..."

[cut to closeup of Aldor on map]

"Here, in Aldor, the majority of Frealand lived.  But that is not where out story begins."

"No, our story begins far to the east, in a less travelled region."

[scroll map to left until centered on mountain village of Glessing]

"Here dwelled the small mountain town of Glessing, which was barely large enough to justify the small Bedaic church in it's hills."

[cut to scenic view of Glessing]

"From this town, a hero emerged."

"Wistan was his name, but he was not born here."

"He was born to the south in Garnier.  His father, Leodwald, was a poor farmer.  His mother, unknown."

"So when Wistan was given the opportunity to live at the church as a scribe, his father knew it would be best for him...even if it did make farm life hard."

"There were not many in Frealand educated as well as the Bedaic priests and scribes."

"But where his teachers achieved in knowledge, they lacked in tenderness."

"As a child Wistan was shown little remorse, and when he grew old enough he was put to work for long hours."

[cut to view of Wistan (now in his early 20's) toiling away in the monastery hand-writing books by the window]

[pause]

"But Wistan didn't mind the toilsome work.  In fact, he rather enjoyed the opportunity to read so much."

[longer pause]

[bird flies in the window]

Wistan: "Ahh!  Bloody hell!"

[bird flies around in circles in the room and then lands on the sill]

Wistan: "Be gone, stupid bird!"

Wistan: "What, are ye just inclined to sit there?"

Wistan: "Do thy not quiver in fear before the human?"

Wistan: "Ah well...who does..."

Wistan: "Ho there, what is that tied about your ankle?  A note, no less?"

[Wistan pushes back his chair and gets up.  Player gains control of character]

QuoteAs for C&C... well, using pics from another artist is sort of okay if they match the overall look of the game, isn't it, but I'd always try to do all the graphics myself... but heck, it's a GREAT pic.
Get that game done- can't wait to see it!!!

That is an interesting idea.  I do a bit of painting myself, so that is a possibility, although given the sheer volume of labor ahead of me on this game (modelling, animating, putting it together), that is doubtful.

However...this game represents a big "first" for me, because it will be my first AGS game, and my first experience modelling and animating, so I expect my skills in all of these areas will have imrpoved dramatically by the time I'm done...so I will probably make a new version or sequel or something and use all my own art that time.

But one thing is for certain...I'm going to keep using other people's music, because I can't stand MIDI  music and the only music I can make is trance and I'm not very good at that even.

I'll say happy birthday too  :)

 ???

You want to play MIDI notes from AGS in order to create a MIDI file because you don't have a MIDI maker...I sense circular logic here!  Or am I misunderstanding you?

Sylpher,

Yes, it is like me to make suggestions...but nobody else seems bothered by it so far.  And if Pumaman doesn't have the time, then he won't read them or implement them, it's as simple as that.

I understand your concern for new features being added first...but I believe your comments are misguided.  I don't expect all of my suggestions to be added.  But by listing all of them, it is possible to recognize overlaps between the wants of different users and more accurately determine which features are wanted most by the AGS community.  If we remain silent than no one knows.  The result of my post is that 4 new features have been added to the list:

1 - GetOverlayPosition
2 - SetTextBoxColor
3 - SetButtonTextColor
4 - alpha channel support for graphic overlays

So, as you can see...all of these functions are relatively quick and easy to implement, and offer new features (except for #1).

Your apology is accepted (even though you chose to condescend me further...)
#654
also I think you should change "I.act" to "use" (because "Act" means something a bit different and I couldnt figure out what "I.act" was until it was mentioned here)
#655
aside from the shadows not making any sense, i have 2 more concerns

1 - id like to see the man's face in the chair, if the desk were facing a different direction...

2 - i cant tell what a lot of the objects are.  is that a wine barrel?  why would there be a wine barrel.    and whats that yellow thing on the ceiling?  and whats that bullet-shaped brown thing with the green jagged line coming out of it on the left? and whats in the glass box on the wal....poo?

i like your style, though
#656
the two melodies don't seem to go together
#657
also...

Quotedoes createGraphicOverlay allow me to specify negative coordinates?

the answer to this is yes
#658
thanks guys  ;D
