Yes, that's expected. The new website is currently on a test database that's 10 months old. When we go live with it, we'll apply everything on the current database.

You can do whatever you like on the new-site url, without having to worry to change anything on the current website.

So please, if you have time, have a try on adding & updating games. It doesn't matter if you haven't got a real game, just use test data (any URL for a download for example).

Bugs/feedback processed:

- On the homepage, in the Play Games section, updated the button text from "Get Started" to "Explore More Games" for clarity.
- Removed the logo credit from the footer (it will go into a dedicated section on the About page).

- On light theme, on the homepage hero, changed the colour of the down arrow (it was invisible due to being the same colour as the button).

- On desktop, in the menu, added the "on hover" colour to the search icon
- On mobile, on the Play Get Started Page, removed the game description from Pick of the Month.
- On mobile, when the menu or the notification list is open and you click outside of them, they close automatically.
- On mobile, an issue with the search filters has been fixed.

Ah sorry, cat, I may misremember how the logo was created, thanks for clarifying.

To explain my thinking; it seemed to be a nice idea to credit the artists for their artwork, by adding a small line below the images. Which of course I couldn't do with the logo. After adding you to the footer, I realised that there are more examples (like Image Not Found) and I think it's too much to add all of that to the footer. So for now I will revert the addition to the footer and will have a think on how to credit everyone appropriately.

Bugs/feedback processed so far (and visible on the test site):

- Colour progress bar in image carousel changed from red to theme blue
- Made the login panel wider on desktop view
- Made the cookie banner wider on both desktop and mobile
- Removed extra space in top creators and contributors
- Added "Logo by Cat" in the footer.
- Added video tutorials by Eon Star to the Help & Support resources
- Replaced the AI logos with the ones provided in this thread.

Thanks @Rik Vargard , that's a really good point.

We currently have this page https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/create/help-support/ , which can be found in the menu under Create > Help & Support.

AGA and I aren't actively developing games, and we don't really know what's out there. Currently it only shows all resources from the current site which still work.

We're more than happy to add/update it with more recent resources.

Can you please share where we can find these video tutorials?

Thanks!

@RootBound and @Dungeonation

Thanks so much for the art! I'd like to credit your work. It'll be similar to the Award Mugs on this page: https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/play/game/1748/

Is it okay if I mention your forum name and link to your forum profile? Or would you rather have me use something else? (e.g. your real name, your personal website, etc.)

Thank you for your feedback so far, really appreciated.

Quote from: RootBound on Mon 26/08/2024 16:15:44I wonder if all the awards, ratings, and other panels could be smaller (making the mug illustration in the awards panels display smaller would help with that), and maybe the "other players rated" and "share your thoughts" panels could be combined into one? Maybe the empty vertical space inside each panel above the title of each panel could be removed as well? The more we can minimize scrolling, the more people will pay attention to what's on the screen now instead of wondering what's next.

I see what you're saying. The content is very dynamic; there can be anywhere between 2 and 6 sections, and the content of each section can be very short, very long or anything in between. This was the best I could do to make each game look nice.

Quote from: edmundito on Mon 26/08/2024 15:31:20The History section could use some updating

I based the history section on the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_Game_Studio . Could you please be a bit more specific about what you think is missing?

Quote from: edmundito on Mon 26/08/2024 15:31:20Discord is missing from the Join page

On this page https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/join/, it's the third item in the "Other Community Pages" section?

Quote from: edmundito on Mon 26/08/2024 15:31:20- Is the "latest from our forums" correct? The posts are from 9 months ago

Yes, apologies, we should have mentioned that. The test database is a snapshot taken 9 months ago. You wouldn't see the newest games, nor the newest forum posts. When the site is tested and ready to replace the current one, of course all data will be migrated.

Quote from: edmundito on Mon 26/08/2024 15:31:20When switching to dark mode the logo shifts (maybe because the font outline goes away?)

That's correct, that's caused by the outline. Both images are exactly the same size and have the same CSS applied to them.

We'll look into the rest of the feedback.

Lovely, thank you!

Overall, we try to make a better version of what's currently there, so there's a lot of small improvements. A lot of them can be seen here, even though we have made small adjustments as we're learning: https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/

As far as I'm aware, these are a few of the larger improvements that we have added which might not be as clear in the design:
- Switch between dark mode and light mode.
- A dedicated search page with 12 different filter categories (with loads of options in each category) and 10+ ways of sorting
- Search page includes a filter category linked to your profile in which you can see your games, the games you've worked on, the games you commented on, etc.
- A page to celebrate top contributors and creators
- Improved AGS Awards
- Personalised menu based on your forum permissions (so admins of any kind have more options - no need to remember URLs anymore).
- Improved add game form with i.e.
  - Support for multiple languages
  - Support for voice & text languages
  - Support for multiple operating systems
  - Better guidance & validation
  - Support for Vimeo videos
  - Limit for maximum 3 images has been removed and a more modern 'drag & drop' system for uploading images.
  - Ability to add more options to the current dropdowns (resolution already has been updated to reflect the latest version of AGS).

And these ones are on the "For future consideration" list (not in any order):
- Snarky: I think the barrier to registering an account should be lower
- Snarky: For people browsing on mobile (or any computer where they can't play the games), it would be nice if there were a way to bookmark/wish list/save a game for later, under their account.
- Snarky: With eri0o's online AGS port, would it at all be possible to make games playable directly on the site?
- Hobbes: On the topic of Modules/Plugins, I was wondering... if we're building a Games Database, should we also build a Modules/Plugins/Template database where people can upload, categorise etc
- Unknown: And if we kept track of games that the user had downloaded (in a cookie), and showed a request for a rating/review the next time they visited, maybe we could get enough ratings that sorting/filtering by rating would make sense and not leave out major titles.
- Me: See whether it's possible to login without being redirected to the forums.
- Crimson Wizard: Add tagging

I don't know whether AGA remembered, or whether it has been asked before, but the version we're currently working on will support multiple downloads. Per download you can specify voice and/or text languages and one or more operating systems.

These new fields will also be searchable in a more intuitive search engine.

Tagging is currently not included, but I'll put it on the list with requests we've received so far for future consideration. The plan is to work towards a first version and keep iterating after going live.

So please let us know when there's any other requests and I'll add them to the list :)

Amazing, thank you for the quick reply!

It's been some time since the last discussion/update about the AGS Website redesign. AGA and I have been working on the project, and it's starting to look really nice!

We ran into a question and your help would be greatly appreciated. We've received a list of supported resolutions:

Code: ags
320x180
320x200
320x240
640x360
640x400
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1280x720
1280x800
1280x1024
1440x900
1600x900
1600x1200
1680x1050
1920x1080
1920x1200

We would like to know if these are the only resolutions available, or is there also an option to set custom resolutions?

@Crimson Wizard , could you possibly shed some light on this?

My own experience has been positive in a similar situation.

Our son doesn't really speak Dutch, but when we go back home he interacts with the Dutch speaking children of my friends. Surprisingly, they find their own ways to communicate and spend time together (he loves going back home and playing with them). Children often have a remarkable ability to overcome language differences through play and non-verbal communication.

Of course, every child is different, and you know your children's comfort levels best.

Ugh I hate it when chrome does that. Sometimes it caches stuff that should be cleared with ctrl+F5. It looks good in Firefox indeed. I think it looks good. Are you happy with it too?

No need to say sorry at all! I saved the files again from your post at 19:49 (after refreshing) and uploaded them.

I tried to make sure there's no caching going on, but I seem to see the same size of the images?
Do you see the same? I might be doing something wrong; this might not the best way to define the size of the svg as it's not an image.

Never mind! I just realised the width is different because the spacing between the letters is different. What do you think about how it looks? Are you happy with it?

They're on there. Somehow the black one seems to be larger? I use the same html, but I might not use the right style (I'll move it to the css file once it's right). Any suggestions are welcome.

For the header:
Code: html

<img style="image-rendering: smooth; height:125px" src="/assets/img/logo_dark.svg" alt="Adventure Game Studio" title="Adventure Game Studio">
<img style="image-rendering: smooth; height:125px" src="/assets/img/logo_light.svg" alt="Adventure Game Studio" title="Adventure Game Studio">

For the footer:
Code: html

<img style="image-rendering: smooth; height:23px" src="/assets/img/logo_dark.svg" alt="Adventure Game Studio" title="Adventure Game Studio">
<img style="image-rendering: smooth; height:23px" src="/assets/img/logo_light.svg" alt="Adventure Game Studio" title="Adventure Game Studio">

As mentioned in the logo thread, I'm not too happy with the secondary colour of the dark theme. I think it is too close to the main colour and the hue too green. When viewing the main page on PC, the secondary headers are not visible, only the menu in the upper left corner. The slightly different colour than the three big main headings made me think the menu colour is a mistake and should be the same as the primary colour.
I think there are two options: use the same colour for both, primary and secondary headings or make the secondary colour more distinct.

Btw, I can easily change the colour of the logo - if necessary, we could even have different colours for light and dark theme.

Thank you for clarifying! I see what you mean with the secondary colour and you're right. What do you think of the new version?
https://new-site.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/?theme=dark

The menu is the same colour as the header colour and the sub-headers are now the dark blue which is used as header colour on the current site. I checked readability and there's enough contrast according to lighthouse.

(and great to hear it's easy to adjust the logo colour!)

@Monsieur OUXX, thank you! I'm not a professional developer/designer, so all feedback to improve is more than welcome. Would you mind me asking you some questions to make sure I understand you correctly?

I assume you are looking at the light theme? My aim was to modernise the light theme, but keeping the old look & feel. I appreciate I have made wrong decisions.

Quote from: Monsieur OUXX on Tue 02/08/2022 11:22:04
I regret that the theme is progressively moving away from the powerful blue of the old blue cup (electric blue, royal blue) and is now mostly de-saturated, grayish blue. Even the cup. That old royal blue was giving a strong visual identity to AGS.

Can you give the colour code of what you call electric blue/royal blue? I'm using exactly the same colours as on the current site?
Light theme:
- Primary colour: #435DBA (header colour from current site)
- Primary colour variant: #7BB2F7 (cup colour current site)
- Secondary colour/call to action: #EE8636 (link colour current site)
- Background colour: #FFFFFF (background current site)
- Background colour variant: #DEEDFF (alternating background current site)

Quote from: Monsieur OUXX on Tue 02/08/2022 11:22:04
The action buttons must be of your "brand" color (i.e. royal blue); then you can choose another fitting color when hovered (e.g. orange) -- in other words : flip the theme. Every other semi-important element must be in a "trimmed down" version of your brand color -- which means that no banner should be royal blue (as seen on the Play page); that's where the less powerful grayish blue should be used.

I used this CTA principle, used at previous employers:

There is one condition which is vital to keep in mind while choosing colors for CTA: buttons and background colors should be contrasting enough so that CTAs would stand out from the other UI components. For example, if a designer uses the blue color palette for the layout, it would be a good idea to use red or yellow color for CTA buttons.

as the motivation between my orange choice. Also, because there's no mouse-over on mobile, I was worried that the branding would look very bland, being all shades of blue?

Of course, let me know if I can do anything to help you with the logo.

Sorry, could you clarify what's the wrong colours? Do you mean the font colour of the menu should be the same as the header colour (lighter blue) and not like the subheader colour (the darker one) which I currently have? Or do I misunderstand?

What's the font you use for the header? I can see whether I can use it in other places, e.g. for the h1 without it looking odd?
