Love the look of this, plain awesome!  :o

Keep up the good work, man!
#323
Thanks  ;D Are you awesome enough to use it as a wallpaper? come on, are you?

Reposting the wallpapers here so they don't get lost on old page:

The wallpaper currently exists in three different sizes.

1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1680 x 1050

If you're fav size is missing just tell me and I'll create it!
#324
I certainly agree. Lesson learned, I hope.  ;D

In other news, I just sort of finished a poster for the Journey Down.
If anyone should have more JD cravings I recommend downloading the wallpaper and slapping it onto every single computer you come in contact with!

Cool game, good job Ali! Must have been a lot of work with all those animations. They look good.

What does working with DAGE feel like? has it got what it takes? Seen through this game it looks surprisingly competent.

Looks great! I realize this is no the critics lounge but I find it hard to keep my mouth shut. The 1 px black edges you have around/inside all your objects in the backdrop are not helping you. Why not do the same with them as the outlines on your character? Simply have a darker tone of the current color, that is. It works magic on her and I can see no reason not to do the same on the backdrops.

It will look less "habbo", I promise.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to this!

I'm sure I could probably judge it better if I knew what the hell was going on, or what I was doing... What a confusing game.

I really must agree. I was very confused. It felt like I was being repeatedly hit in the head with the plot but still couldn't make any sense out of it. Not a nice feeling.

I liked the animations though, very well done.

If you're into these kind of games, here's another with a bit more edge to it: http://www.molleindustria.org/everydaythesamedream/everydaythesamedream.html

Originally Bwana and Kito had a very heavy African/Jamaican accent going on as well, where I intentionally spelled things wrong for the accent to be more obvious. But since lots of the dialog is focused on those two it became hard on the player since it made one stumble allover the misspellings. I decided however to keep the "dialect misspelling" on Sabo, since he really didn't have very much dialog, and that certain trope (R->L) is so well known, I figured no one would stumble on it.

If there were more such "characteristic accent" tropes I could've added to other characters as well, I would have done so. I think it adds a lot of character that I otherwise would be missing.

After hearing this comment a couple of times though I have realized that some people actually do find this offensive, or rather, I've found that people believe that there are people that find it offensive. Whether this is true or not I do not know. Either way I find it rather odd a thing to get all wound up over, but I do respect the opinion and will definitely shy away from doing similar things again. If Sabo ever were to return to the series though, I can assure you, his accent will remain. It is, simply put, the way he talks.

Either way, thanks Ascovel for the heads up on this article! Free coverage rocks!  ;D

hhe I know, I got a bit carried away. I'm glad you guys found it interesting though.  ;D

I do these kind of paintovers in my head all the time when I play ags games. There are so many games out there that could look so much better with a couple simple fixes... I really wish people took the time. But that's easy for me to say, I should take the time making sure my code works and to proofread things, but I prefer just pretending it's all good heh. Spending time on the part you love to work on sure is easier than the opposite.

loominous, then make a game of it, you silly person you! I'd love to play it.
#331
loominous, that's plain gorgeous  :o - what's the project?

well. lol. I just realized you've already finished this picture. Oh well, don't hate me now but I just totally tore your old image apart.  ::)

I started making a paint-over with some simple points I wanted you to have a look at but somewhere in the process I forgot I was working on someone else's image and just kept on experimenting, thus I'm afraid I may have strayed faaaaar from your original concept. Also, sorry for the smudginess, I painted it on your lowres canvas and doubled its scale now for showing purposes.

A quick rundown of what major points I have addressed:

* There was no depth, I added fog.
* Lighting was not coherent, I repainted it, all the time thinking about my main and ambient light sources.
* Ground was boring, I added city lights to get scale into the scene as well as a secondary light source.
* The windows reflected a color that by no means seemed to exist in your sky. I repainted them to reflect the sky.
* Compositionally your bent building and tree were both causing a mess, I repainted them to get better flow.
* The whole composition felt awkwardly flat. I skewed everything into perspective to make it more dynamic.

Again, I realize this was taken a bit too far here, but perhaps some of the points and how I have addressed them will teach you or someone around here something. Thanks for making me sit down and paint for a couple of hours. I needed that.  ;D

Very much looking forward to part two of technobabylon. Best of luck!

her hair is identical on both sides. This is bad as you can't -through silhouette- read her direction. This will definitely feel awkward when she changes direction on x.

Add shadows. They will create contrast that punch your highlights further and make them feel bathed in sunlight. Without shadows to compare them with, bright areas don't feel bright. Also, remember that with a clear blue sky, shadows contain a lot of blue. This is very important to create the tropical feel you are clearly after.

Keep drawing!

Don't do everything at once.  Sketch first. lines. volumes. Once your sketch is good, start worrying about the rest.

Ambitious project, I wish you the best of luck with it. I agree that the art needs work, but honestly, there's no better way to get better than to just keep on practicing!

I loved the original Shadowgate, it was one of the first adventure games I stumbled upon as a kid.

Good luck!

This is just plain genius. I love it. Respect.

Me, exploration mode.

For some reason I feel it is my duty to write something catchy about my picture, I have however chosen not to do so.
Somehow on topic: Jethro tull rules.  ;D

Just beat this game the other day and gotta say I loved it. Very quirky and original. The talking beer mug cracked me up big-time. Whoever did the voice acting on that deserves big cred! Genius writing and performance.  ;D

My only gripe would be that the art in many places felt rather slapped together and unfinished. Sadly, I feel publicity-wise that the game will suffer from this and receive less attention than it deserves because of it. I loved the titles though, the main menu with its design and music rocks my socks off!

Great job!

Sweet! Keep up the good work!
