The Rumpus Room / Re: game nostalgia
Tue 07/11/2006 23:08:08
I'm too young to be Nostalgic with anything other that METAL GEAR SOLID,
Although I have or have had a large amount of key 2nd to 5th generation consoles.
The ATARI 2600 (which i got when a certain influencial irish radio station  in the 80's closed down) although I still was minus 8 years old at the time, my favourite game by far was PITFALL and FATAL RUN.

PITFALL CAME with the atari and I bought FATAL RUN from a shop in 1998, six years after the collapse of ATARI.

The Commodore VIC 20 which I broke in a freak repair accident, I got that in 1999.

The Commodore AMIGA which I bought for 3 EURO in fair at a local school in 2004.

The SNES which has since been sold.

  ETC.....

But unlike you guy's I look more fondly on games such as HALF LIFE 1 (which I played first in 2003) and FALLOUT (which I only first played last year).

Personally although I am a member of this brilliant community I really never got into ADVENTURE games since at the time of my conception they already were on the way out and CATACOMB ABYSS was already being released.

FALLOUT 1 AND 2, especially two.

Its more diverse than OBLIVION nad man thats diverse.

For example:
There are these 2 cities Vault city and GECKO
Vault city has all the wealth and there are no mutants, while Gecko is poor and full of mutants who get this sleep in a leaking nuclear power station.

Now I need to get into the nuclear fallout shelter of vault city to find out where I can get the GECK (a thing that will save my village from drought)

I can
-negotiate a peace agreement between the two by repairing the offending nuclear reactor
-kill everyone in Gecko to please the dreaded 1st citizen of vault city
-do the citizenship test and be allowed in
-sneak in and fight my way out and in or
-murder everyone in vault city and walk in.

I chose the last option since it was easy when I had MKII powered armour that could deflect a rapid fire shotgun blask and a car with over 50 kinds of weapons in it which i stole from a gun dealer in a gamling town further south.

A throughly enjoyable game with COMPLETE OPEN ENDNESS.

Buy the trillogy today because its only 14.99 euro for all the originals.

this form is getting out of hand i dont really have too much against the wii but it just reaks of laziness  why didnt they go the extra mile and try to appeal to graphic loving gamers as well instead theyve forced publishers to waste time optimising games they ok  frame rates at least other consoles have planned ahead allowing games to continue to improve , remember Nintendo were against in game video saying that it ruined gameplay.Anyway I really the Ps3

in response to maniac matts comment
ease of programing is very important for a console take the SEGA DREAMCAST,
it was superior to all consoles at the time, had the first ever built in multiplayer but it was killed by the difficulty coding for it resulting in rather poor third party support and a limited range of Home games,
it was downhill from there and SEGA was forced to leave the console industry for good after 15 years.

If is easy to program for, it wins FULL STOP.

And on another note
Sony has said that because of the difference in the systems that they don't even consider NINTENDO a competitor, and we all know how awful they are at marketing.

In Ireland its difficult to even find Gamecube games since most stores have practically pulled them from their shelves.

Wii will never have a hold on the serious or competative aspect of gaming thus we should let it do its thing because its never gonna threaten xbox or ps3 it never did and never will, it will only survive on its blindly loyal fanbase who would walk off a cliff if NINTENDO said it was original and innovative, it may be but its stupid.

Why would anyone buy the Wii it is basically a slightly better Gamecube but get this its 3 times the price only now you have to use two different controllers and they both cost 35 euros, now we all get a bit pissed off when we only have one controller and we want to play multiplayer but now with the wii if you want to play multiplayer (like the ad shows) you've got to go out and buy SIX more controllers (3 thumb chucks and 3 wi-motes) that will pump that 250 price up to 460, Yipee.Nothing says great than a severly outdated re-release of a failure of a console (when did you ever see anyone except NINTENDO make a game for the gamecube other than a port.)

And although the innovative motion sensing thumb chucks look i admit good in RED STEEl,
I know the first thing I would do is rip the wire in between by mistake ,wow another 35 euro and some friends of mine sadly due to medical reasons would not be able to use these controllers due to coordination issues , what about them?

If you want a console buy the 360 its cheaper than the ps3, is easier to program for and already has a head start (and if you want you can even make your own games for it since microsoft released the software suite to the public) although you could  be smart and just get a computer.

Edit:Maniac matt all my friends and my brothers ps2's broke because all early versions had defective lasers and also to everyone else dont say im a microsoft fan boy, I have a gameboy advance which i play alot, a psp which is great a ps2 which has its moments although multiplayer is extremely dead,an xbox which is uber cool, an amiga which was before my time but enjoyable,a gameboy original,a gameboy colour,a commodore vic 20,an atari 2600 and of course a computer - im an all rounder so im the least biased.

BEST FILM IN THE WORLD!!!!

Imagin the prospect of the world ending in your lifetime and how it would gradually collapse as the people become hopeless then multiply that by 2 and you've got it

it was supposed to be a funny comparison because if you ever played zombie nation it was shit why do you think i dont list it in my made games even though its floating around the forum

it would be a cross between urban dead and resident evil and yes i know its ambitious but i need a project to occupy my time for the next 2 years, since i'm starting what we call in ireland the senior cycle which is 2 intense final years of secondary school before college.

Also if I aim so high I obviously won't achieve it but the results will be better if i aimed lower.

General Discussion / idea about my game
Tue 05/09/2006 17:48:51
Having spent the best part of 3 weeks writing the entire plot of my game survial as well as drawing out the entire map and all the roads, i've had an inspiration.

In certain games plots can seem forced and sometimes make no sense and in a zombie survival game how can I just one person dictate how an entire populus would react so here until further notice is how im going to proceed with my game.

I'm going to scrap the complete storyline and try to develop my game into an mmo - now im giving it a time scale of completion 2 - 3 years but help would be accepted.

i'll start with simple 2 player then ultimately lead on to 300 players.

Anyone interested in contributing say so and leave a description of what you'd be willing to do.

i'm pretty set on the back grounds and maybe even the character side of things so I need scripters, sound providers, voice actors and ultimatly some one willing to host it 24/7 since i'm unable.

Although I may simply pursue this myself ,I might need assistance so please leave a post on how you would like to contribute.
