Oh man, it really sucks that I am reading about the new release now, after just playing it today...

Ok, my thoughts:
I really enjoyed the game, it's my kind of games, funny, quirky and with a talking fish, what more could you ask?
The sprites and animations were really nice, the background was a little off-putting at first. I got used to it after a while, but it wasn't at the same level of the characters...
I liked all the cut scenes, really gave the game depth. The puzzles were just about right, and the story was nice too.

I missed the hotspot label, but looks like you already fixed it, and some default comments for interactions could be replaced with something more meaningful...
Some glitches with the z-ordering but forgivable considerable it's a MAGS game.

Overall great job!

Wow, it is unbelievable you made this in just a month! Bravo!

The positives:
- The production values for this game was possibly the best I've seen in an AGS game ever! The artwork was excellent, very very beatiful.
- The rain/snow/leaves were top notch, I'd love to know how to do that (tutorial hint hint  ;)).
- The music was really beautiful also, really fitting to the atmosphere.
- I found the dramatic writing to be fitting as well, and I also liked the Kevin Spacey revealing thing you did at the end.

The negatives:
-The puzzles. First, they were dead-easy to me. With the exception of the acorn puzzle, I was pretty much on auto pilot the whole game. But that I can still understand and forgive, this game was probably more intended at the casual gamers. What is totally unforgivable to me, was the repeatibility factor in the puzzles. It's ok to do it in one puzzle, but I counted four times(!!!):
Spoiler

-Having to put three stones in the bucket
-Having to collect three light worms and put in the lamps
-Having to break the box three times
-And the worst of all, was the puzzle with holding the hand of the tree again and again, which was really irritating!

I didn't find it to have any added value, besides artificially lengthening the game, and frustrating the player, making him feel like doing work instead of being entertained or challenged.

-The story. First, it's a depressing story, which I don't like, but I can appreciate it's a matter of taste (oh, and ben, I'm not talking serious vs light hearted since I can enjoy serious, I'm talking sad). Besides that, the story and the characters were pretty flat. I agree with that respect to pretty much everything AC said on that subject.
There's some story writing method (I don't remember it's name), where you first write your story idea in one sentence, then you develop it into a paragraph, then you develop each line in the paragraph to its own paragraph, etc etc, until you have a story in your hand. It seems that you started with a sentench
Spoiler
girl coping with her friend's death

, then developed it into a paragraph
Spoiler
girl is having a hard time coping with her friend's death. She goes into a metaphoric journey which symbolizes the five steps of denial, anger ... acceptance. The reader will go the journey along with the girl, but will reveal the meaning of the journey only in the end.

So far so good, only it seems that you stopped there, which is really a shame. I can understand that it's probably related to writing the whole thing in only a month, and most of your efforts were dedicated to the production values.

Ok, that's all, I know it looks I have more to say on the negatives, but it's because the good things are really obvious and the bad things require more explaining, in my view...

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Dead Pixels
Fri 07/05/2010 09:11:54
Well, the graphics are good, and the jokes were funny (OMG etc), however I gave up on the game when my hand began to hurt from the excessive pixel hunting   :'(

I will play again, though, if you provide a more friendly version, since I do want to see what happens to the zombie in the end.
All that's missing to me is:
1. A hotspot label.
2. Comments on all interactions.

Now I know you said that you won't make any fixes, but it's really not alot of work to make your game a whole lot better...

p.s. I didn't hear any music/sound.
p.s2. Great background for the original game!

@Astauber: Glad you enjoyed it  :)
I agree about the sliding tackles, it's in fact the only feature that was in my original plans for the tech demo and didn't make the cut, but it will definitely be in the final game (if there will be one  ;)).

I also intend to improve the controls, sensible soccer was my major inspiration for the controls, although I haven't played it in years, so I did it from memory...
In fact, in the first beta there was only one button like the original swos, but I couldn't pull it off, so added the second button...

@Ascovel: Well, since I knew in advance that both Dualnames and Ascovel can't make a pass if their lives depended on it, I gave them matching abilities in the game. I Did it with other characters as well, for example, have you seen how fast c.leksutin runs on the field? First you see him, then you don't...

Oh, and I suppose at this point I can reveal the theme for the chain stories this round:

"Stories without any asteroids in them!"
How about boobs then? Are boobs allowed?
Oh, and I'm definitely in if there's still room...  :)

How surreal it is to play football against myself. I defeated myself the first match, but then I was on my team and I won.

I have to say how much more interesting I find it to play computer football when it is with AGS forum buddies and people I know from around these parts than some boring professional player that I have never heard of, this was a really great idea! And it's also super well built and good fun, killer stuff.

However Leafshade plays football with his shirt off to impress the ladies, so the fact that his player had his jersey still on confused me a little.
Thanks, Ben!
And I'll consider making a topless figure for Leafshade (with manboobs) ;)

Played the football game. I generally hate football but this was amazing! And I was there too!!!Thanks!

BEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER FOR ME!
Thank you guys!!  :)

Started playing the games, really top quality, and I'm glad I have two weeks to play so I can take it easy, will let you know my thoughts probably later on...
@Limping Fish: Great graphics&atmosphere, I'm just wondering, I'm not sure if I finished the game or not:
Spoiler
Do I have to do something else besides touching that red pendant thingy and die? It looks like the only thing to do, have I missed something?

This is a really cool game!  :)
I had real fun with it, until I discovered a trick which made the game really easy, maybe you should find some way to ensure that this trick won't work.
The trick is:
Spoiler

Put your ship really close to the ball and tap very light on the shoot ball. This way you will never be in danger of losing the ball...
[close]

Also, I have a suggestion:
How about  adding a "Royal Rumble" mode. I'm talking total chaos here, 6 players/cpus and 3 cue balls on the field (you will probably need to allow movement at all times but ignore collision of ships when one is holding the ball), action everywhere, should be a lot of fun!

I must say, the Dr Cox sprite is brilliant!!!

So is the comp over or what?

Well the deadline is long gone, but Questionable seems MIA...
Yes, very questionable indeed...

You should go with what Calin said, but just to explain why yours did not compile, it's because you mixed floats and ints, you should have done:
Code: ags

float PanFoot = (IntToFloat(cEgo.x) / 3.2) - 100.0;
#1072
Yes, but the problem is that it is so damn expensive.
I often substitute with blood of the guilty, which not as good, but much cheaper...

Well, can't answer about the look/interact methods, since you didn't post the code to that, but the use inventory will not work twice because when SaveOpen is set to 1 after the first time, you won't get inside the If and you don't have an "Else" clause.

So change the code to something like:
Code: ags

function oOfficeSafe_UseInv()
{
  if (SafeOpen ==0)
  {
    if(cHank.ActiveInventory == i$$$$$)
    {
      cHank.Walk(375, 488, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
      cHank.FaceLocation(375, 400);
      cHank.LockView(25);
      cHank.Animate(3, 5, eOnce, eBlock, eForwards);
      oOfficeSafe.SetView(21);
      oOfficeSafe.Animate(0, 5, eOnce, eBlock, eForwards);
      cHank.UnlockView();
      cHank.FaceLocation(375, 400);
      cHank.Say("It's open.");
      SafeOpen = 1;
    }
    else
    {
      cHank.Say("Using that on the safe won't help..");
    }
  }
  else
  {
      if(cHank.ActiveInventory == i$$$$$)
      {
         cHank.Say("I've already opened the safe!");
      }
      else
      {
         cHank.Say("That won't do any good...");
      }
  }
}

Here's the sandwich I just ordered from work (and I order it once a week since I love it):
Omelet, Sweet potatoes, tomatoes, pickles, pine nuts, barbeque sauce and tomato paste.

It doesn't get any better than that...
#1075
I can see a lot of surveys in the future of this forum  ;)

Are you making a module of this? Because if you do, then the best thing (although a lot more work) would be to allow for more than one type of platform...
#1076
I bet it's c.leksutin...

That works fine for me. What windows version and directX version do you have?
Windows XP Professional + DirectX 9.0c

Just to make sure:

Did you link the events from the editor?
If you just copied and pasted the whole code from some example that won't work.

I think letting the installer refuse to install the game isn't the way to go.

With the bootstrapper you can customize it so that it would prompt you, and install the pre-requirement for you (if possible).
