Yes, I know I should have started this thread before now, but I was in a motorcycle wreck just a few days before Bake Sale II kicked off. I got banged up pretty badly. My motorcycle was totaled and various bits of me were broken, pulled, dislocated, or sprained.

I happened to stumble upon footage from just before the accident (the photo is hard to digest, though, so only for those of you with a strong stomach).

It clearly shows that you weren't looking at the road!

Thanks CaptainD!
And, I would say you're both right. We tried to incorporate elements from both 70s and 80s sitcoms. Married with Children is indeed a strong influence, but this is also true for Fawlty Towers, for example.

Yes, what Baron said.
If you downloaded the game on the first 2 days of the sale, you would have this bug, otherwise you should be fine.
Terribly sorry for the inconvenience. I shall have Ponch's beta testing team taken out back and shot at once.

Parking Goat presents:

[embed=720,405]http://youtu.be/Hu2IdTHjrss[/embed]

It's the show you all love and cherish, "THE SCHMENDERSONS!"

And on tonight's episode, "THAT DAMN DOG!", Ron is finally fed up with Stephan's dog, Don Piano, and decides to do something once and for all.

Features:

* A "playable sitcom", need we say more?
* Now with full voice acting!

Where can I watch this episode?

This was previously an all exclusive bake sale title.
However, it is free now, and you can get it from this link:

I also sometimes think that we're going in the wrong direction (not always though... unlike you, I'm switching between pessimist and optimist based on my mood/what I saw that day/etc), though I don't blame civilization. I mostly blame Capitalism.

it is just that you need enough people doing the hard work for you so it becomes possible to live as an artist or a philosopher... That's why civilization is based on slavery. Slaves can be substituted by machines, but it is not that simple. We are still trying to make it work.
Change the word civilization to Capitalism, and I'm on board with this statement.
Like qptain Nemo said, people can divide the work between them, especially now with more and more machines, and I think a civilization can be built around this concept.
It's Capitalism that encourages people to use their power to gain more power, since it's a free market and it will balance itself so no need to worry... Add to that the fact the power is corrupting and the general flaw in Capitalism that r>g, which basically means the gaps between the rich and the poor will only get bigger in a healthy capitalist culture, and we've got a real problem here...

Now, let me offer an alternative (perhaps utopian and practically impossible, but a man can dream) civilization, based on "dividing the work" concept.
Today 50% of the world's resources are in the hands of 10% of the population. If we divide it more equally, I believe we have enough resources to sustain everybody, and the duties of the people will be to perform the work that must be performed. This will be instead of today's taxes... Let's take only the jobs we must have (producing food, city maintenance, law enforcement, health, education, etc) and ditch all other jobs that are not an absolute necessity (I include entertainment here, and with that, game development, though wait for it, I'll get back to that...)- this needs proof, but I believe the amount of work hours needed for only those must-have jobs divided by the amount of working hands in the world (times the hours) is not a large number, meaning we might be able to share all the work among us and only work, for example, 2 months a year, and have the rest of it free to do as we please. And if you take into account that we'll have no poverty, and probably less greed, we can reduce the amount of working hands needed for law enforcement, with less unhealthy foods being produced (since those are produced for profit) and more non-biased education on nutrition and sports we can cut the number of doctors in half, etc etc, we can actually work even less and less in the future.
Now what we'll we do with all that free time? Well, if we want (and some of us want) we can do the jobs that are not a must-have. We can create games, movies, whatever, but we'll do it without the survival need of providing for ourselves, because this will no longer be an issue, which I assume will lead to more quality games/movies/etc.

Sure, this suggestion is not perfect and might have many holes (what to do with hidden unemployment, people not wanting to do the dirty work, how we decide on what's important, what if people will want more, are people allowed to trade amongst themselves etc), but generally I find a world where you have to work a little and live a lot (and also, a world without adverts, YAY), a much better world to live in, and possible to achieve in theory, if enough people will agree on it.

I was in the process of changing all my Dialog.Start(); instances over to goto-dialog instances when the editor crashed with the following error:
The "Error creating window handle" exception can happen when you go out of resources. This could be a resource leak somewhere in the system, but this could also be due to too many open windows.
Did you have a lot of open windows in AGS?
Did you have a lot of open windows outside of AGS?

Yes, this was another manifestation of the previous bug. The previous fix was for folders/files dragging, but I missed the move up/down...
Committed a fix to the branch.

Mother, I am finally a man!

I started off with the advice not to use the up key, and what worked best for me was building a pyramid. The highest number always goes to the bottom right corner, and his second & third in command go one cube up and one to the left, and so on...
Whenever something is wrong in the pyramid, I do my best to fix it, almost ignoring everything else that goes on in the screen.

I'm using ParticleSystemManager and it seems to handle my alpha containing particles just fine.

I have a suggestion:
Before you vote, you will be presented with the list of all games which are nominated for at least one award, and requested to check the games you have played. Then you will be given the ability to vote only for those awards for which you've played all the nominees.
This will prevent scenarios of outside voters voting for their favorite game even though they didn't check out the competition.

Regardless, it would be nice to read a "I tried the new version and it ran a for loop fine" from someone so I know that I didn't completely mess things up :).

I tried the new version and it ran a for loop fine.
Well done!
#353
Running with this version and can confirm the text window padding works. :)

Re the audio clips API: Can you guys explain why you find those additions useful? One use I can maybe see is for playing random sound effects, but other than that, I'm drawing a blank. Is there another reason that got you sold, Iceboty?
#354
Damn it, missed the ceremony...
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees.
Special congrats to Ponch and CW, you guys truly deserve those awards.

Yes, easy fix, fixed in master.

Normally, I'd side with Snarky on using an existing code base and not rewriting everything from scratch. By careful refactoring (using something similar to the Mikado method), you can bring the software from state A to state B and it can then be a completely different animal. Btw, a couple of years back I used to belong to the other side of the fence, but since I then saw my work's ugly legacy software becoming something much more maintainable I've been made into a believer.

However, there's one legitimate reason to do a rewrite, and that is switching to a more relevant and appropriate underlying technology, making refactoring not so relevant. And this why, I think we should do a rewrite:

UNITY

I don't mean supporting Adventure Creator like was suggested before, since it's a commercial project, I mean developing our own AGS for Unity plugin which would be free and open source.

Why I think we should switch to unity?
1. Unity is by far the best game development framework existing today, and it's far ahead than anything else I've seen (and Wyz, if you honestly believe we can build a better engine than Unity in 5 years, than let me say I highly admire your optimism, but with that, please send me the contact details to your dealer :P ).
2. Unity has a huge community behind it, which could result in a lot more adventure games being made, and also recruiting much more developers than we could have dreamed of. I mean, just look at the number of posts in the Adventure Creator thread, to understand the potential.
3. The free unity version (and bicilotty, I didn't really understand your comment about unity you made before) has more than enough to build a top quality adventure framework (it is highly customizable and extendable), and there is no problem releasing commercial games using it (unless it earns more than 100K, and in that case surely you can afford unity pro), with the only caveat of the free version is showing the unity logo at the beginning.
4. Unity does so much for you already: portability, choosing between 3 different and recognised languages, a highly sophisticated IDE with the most beautiful debugging system I've ever seen, hardware acceleration, shaders, and they also recently released 2d tools. I see no reason to believe they won't get even better and further increase the gap between them and the competitors.

In short, switching to Unity is the only feasible way I see for AGS to remain relevant in tomorrow's world.

Found a bug: since you don't provide a method to delete the dynamic sprites you created, if you reload the game, some weird stuff can happen.

Fixed this by adding the following method, and calling it before loading a game:

Code: ags

function CloseNoise()
{
  int i = 0;
  while (i < length)
  {
    if (nspr[i] != null) nspr[i].Release();
    if (noisespr[i] != null) noisespr[i].Delete();
    i++;
  }
}

This made me really sad :~(

I'm not trying to persuade you to change your mind, but just for the record, I found your organizational skills and leadership (as well as your programming skills, of course) superb!

I hope nothing happens to the goats, I will be very upset if something happens to the goats!
Great graphics, btw, a game to look forward to..
