Not really much more to say about it. It's not top of my list of things that need a re-release, but there you go.

For the record, of all the death experienced in my life, outside of 'old age' and 'disease', most has been caused by car accidents, likely a result of speeding.

But that's not the point. Speeding. Murder. Downloading a song illegally. Honking your car horn after 11pm (in the UK). Opening someone else's mail. All these things are deemed, by our society, as "crimes", doing any of them makes you a "criminal", and thus a different species. Therefore doing one is as bad as the rest and you should be eliminated in the final solution! Or so I understand it.

If criminals are a different species, then a criminal is a criminal is a criminal. Mass murderer or speeder, they have both broken the law, and are defined as a "criminal", that is, a species different than upstanding citizens such as Calin or I.

And if they have all given up their rights by committing a crime, then they get no say in what happens to them. Sorry!

You're absolutely right! Let's get rid of them.

First off: speeders. they are endangering the lives of others and are a menace to society. Anyone caught speeding - or has admitted to it - line up for shooting. The world will be better off without you!

Better to take their lives than risk the lives of others, right?

I hadn't noticed! You are correct sir, I apologise. I'd imagine PC game sales stats are a bit difficult to acquire, what with there being more outlets (I presume you'd have to collate Steam, GoG, retail, etc...)

Also it would be interesting to compare sales of PC games vs console games, to see how that affects the genres most bought. Is "mainstream" on PC different from "mainstream" on console?

My point, in part, was that when people say 'mainstream' they immediately rant about Call of Duty and/or Halo, and the lack of innovation within that. What I'm saying is that mainstream is more than that, there's a variety of stuff the public are buying. Most FPS games are mainstream, sure, but most mainstream games are not FPS games.

Also, if mainstream isn't the games that most people are buying (and, we can infer, playing,) then what is mainstream?

There is some kind of assumption that FPS games are the 'mainstream', and that they are the sole genre dominating the medium of video games, so I dug out some games sales figures from 2010 to see how true this was:

By my count, there are five FPS games in there (six if you include New Vegas, but as far as I'm aware that's generally classed as an RPG?)

Let's look at the (obviously not yet complete) list for 2011:

In the top fifty games, nine are FPS (and some of them only count twice because they are multi-platform). The first one appears at number eight.

I spot five FPS games not yet released (Resistance 3, Serious Sam 3, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Halo: Anniversary.) Interesting that they're mostly '3's (and one remake), but hardly a majority.

I'm just enraged by how blind people can be when it comes to handling crime.

A couple of friends went through a mild shoplifting phase in high school. It's a shame they're now contributing to society as adults rather than forced to fight for the amusement of others.
