Everyone is right!

Basically, if you give the oar to the Fisherman he will give you some coins. Take them to the Shopkeeper and you can buy a sword. Now you should be able to defeat the dragon (provided you can access the mountain.)

Also: Use the monkey on the nut. Get it? A monkey wrench! Oh, what a world.

Very nice! I'm surprised it took so little time!

May I hijack your thread to show you a similar creation of mine? THANKS.

Funnily, I came to the AGS website actually EXPECTING it to look different, as I have been around for a few years and all.

And even so, I did a triple take when it loaded up. I fell for the gag despite expecting it for a couple of seconds. How silly.

I think my favourite AGS April Fool was the year the site was changed to "Ultimate AGS" (or something?) The site that DGMacphee designed. Genius. The shareware one was pretty darned effective also. Good work this year though!

Miez: did you phone tech support? I usually find them most helpful!

I cannot find the tech support telephone number. I have downloaded "Microsoft UltrasafeNetcheck with toolbar extensions" from this website.
My sisters PC is much better - it has no Norton! Maybe I will install "Microsoft UltrasafeNetcheck with toolbar extensions" on her PC as well.

The phone number is on the back of the box! Unless you downloaded the free version. Then you will have to phone them up to get the boxed version so you can get the phone number. But anyway, yeah, you should definitely uninstall Norton (and any anti-virus software!)

Basically for AGS to run in the future you will need to download, run install and subsequently delete anything that is listed on the AGS site
And how do you know this?

I talked to one of the beta testers.

Basically for AGS to run in the future you will need to download, run install and subsequently delete anything that is listed on the AGS site. You should probably buy an XBox 360 as well, just to be sure.

The site is only "suspicious" because it is new and hasn't been approved with Microsoft's "Microsoft UltraSafeNetcheck" (TM) software to ensure that it is safe. Of course, to ensure it is safe you must first install "Microsoft UltraSafeNetcheck" (TM) and fill in all the details.

Hope that helps!

The first thing that springs ot mind was "Fatman Scoop"

He wasn't very good ._. But he might fit your description?

EDIT: I am almost positive because of his video with the bobble heads you mention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUZhwuNTXb8

Eggie speaks the truth. FEAR HIM.

It's a topic that I have been thinking about a lot lately - what is more important to an audience: escapism or realism? Do people searching for fiction want a substitute for their reality, or an extension of it? I think most would agree the former.

Therefore, is it really necessary to "tell the truth" as you are saying? Sure, write what you know - but apply it to an unfamiliar context. Relating to characters in any form of fiction is important, but this does not necessarily mean "This character is a caucasian male, aged 20 - 30 and shares many of my personality traits therefore I relate." Relating to characters and forming attachments with them is reliant on their relationships with others and their reaction to any situation they are put in.

Often people will complain that a character in a film/book/whatever is unrealistic because "such and such a character would never do that. It's not realistic." However, more often than not it is not "unrealistic" per se, just out of character. Therefore I would argue consistency within your story is more important than realism. Be as wacky as you like, just make sure you keep it up.

Characters in fiction - most notably heroes - are rarely realistic. They are brave, they are adventurous, they are daring. Humans, in general, aren't like that. When asked to go on a quest, most people will turn it down. The reason these characters are so relatable and compelling is because they are enjoyable within their context and because it is escapism for the audience.

Foooooor example, let us take my (and many other's) favourite adventure game, the great Grim Fandango. Realistic? I think not. But it's success is clear: we relate to and care for the characters (especially Manny) because of their interactions and how they face adversity. Even if it is not how you personally would act (in a realistic environment), you respect the character's actions and see hoe they make sense in their personal context. This is what makes them successful characters.

Yaaaaaaaaay, I smell a religious debate coming out of a topic that has nothing to do with religion! Hooray AGS community!

DAMN YOU CHRISTIANS! DAMN YOU ALL! OR DON'T! HOWEVER THE DEBATE GOES!

Grim Fandango, the film noiresque story of a guy travelling across many lands to find a girl? The one with the Art Deco elements and the traditional mythical personification of Death as a character?

Aye, that's original. :P

But if every story IS a cliché, then every adventure game will become a delicious pudding-based experience!

General Discussion / Re: Can TV make you cry?
Sun 24/02/2008 20:57:33
It may seem silly to say it NOW, as the show has become this ultra-macho USA-happy action-hero-a-plenty shootathon, but in the second season of 24 there were a couple of nice moments where you thought there might actually be a possibility that Jack Bauer might die, and they actually caused me to well up. Since then, however, the show has bene far too silly for me to have any emotional response whatsoever.

I looooove Lost, but the end of Season 3 is probably one of the only moments I have felt genuinely emotionally attached to a character. For a long time I was not invested in the characters at all, only interested in the mystery. That's changed now, but for a good while this caused me to have no emotional attachment to them.

Also: Futurama. YES. Jurassic Bark, Luck of the Fryish, but also The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings. The last few moments of that are really touching, although this was probably originally because I thought it would be the last Futurama I would ever see. The whole final sequence of it is genuis though, all through the opera up until the final shot..."I want to see how it ends..."

Video games? Hmmm. I felt a strong emotional attachment on my second (and subsequent) playing(s) of Grim Fandango. I even keep a file of quotes saved from it in My Documents and read through them occasionally. I don't know why, but I especially like the Moon poem and the poem that actually mentions the "Grim Fandango." They don't make me cry, but I feel something from it.

The end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 also tugged strongly at my heartstrings, though I won't spoil why. If you've played it you'll know.

Recently I have noticed how strongly comic books can access my emotional state as well, which may seem very silly (especially if you don't read them) but it's true. A couple of moments in "Y: The Last Man" (especially when A CERTAIN SOMETHING happens to A CERTAIN CHARACTER) really got me. Also: a book called "Pedro and Me," which is about a guy with AIDS, really got me. Also also: I recently read through the entire "Preacher" series and by gosh does that series pack an emotional punch.

Hmmm, has this post made me sound gay? Perhaps. I don't really cry at these things, maybe occasionally well up a bit, but I certainly know what is relevant emotionally - when the creator(s) have made me feel some sort of attachment with the characters.

Vlad, not being mean, but I cannae see yours. And I want to.

But it didn't. Sadly he was stung to death not long after. Although ironically not by the bees.

Also: blah blah blah bees wouldn't be attracted to honey blah blah blah I DON'T CARE.

NEXT TIME ON THE MSPAINT SHOW: The monster under the bed.

I like the presentation this year hero, good job!

I haven't played as many AGS games this year so I didn't really think I was qualified to vote, but I will tell you how pleased I was to see Nelly do so well: very!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and congrats to all those who won, and comisserations (commisses?) to those who didn't. BUT THAT'S NOT AS IMPORTANT.

My girlfriend has had "Do you come here often?" used on her, to which she replied "Yes" and thus the conversation ended.

Also the other night a very drunk guy kept telling her, while I was there, "You.....you are a very beautiful lady." Our friend then grabbed her hand, which was holding mine at the time, and said "and this...is her beautiful boyfriend." At which point he turned to me and said "You.....you are an attractive man." Which was creepy.

But then we had a threesome and that really broke the tension.

The director of the movie also stated there was one big monster and it was a baby. Check the IMDB faq, it's neat.

For realsies, anyone who has seen the film and has the vaguest interest in it should do this.
