I thought it was Julie Andrews :(

No, seriously!

http://www.gametap.com/home/play/gameDetails/000475950

I have never played it before so I'm gonna give it a shot. Not far enough into the service to find any catches and the like, but it looks alright!

EDIT: Looks like it's one of the few games that isn't available in Europe. Dang :(

Won't affect me, as I got vaccinated against advertising when I was a baby. ;)

This is quite a funny comment. I have been studying advertising recently and a this is a common thing for people to think - most people believe they are completely unnaffected by any form or advertising. This is not necessarily the case, it is just that people are fully aware of the purpose of advertising - to guide consumers in a certain direction.

People know that advertising is meant to push people one way or another, but they still are often affected by it. If you have ever wanted to see a movie before it has come out, then advertising and marketing has worked in some way. Same if you choose any product over another product.

Basically, what I've found is that most people think advertising is something that affects everyone else, when this is really not the case.

Stupot put it best;

These new forms of viral marketing are fun and if my wanting to watch this film means I am gullible and have fallen for the hype, then so be it.  I enjoy being part of it.

Anyhoo, as I said before, I like this new form of advertising. If viral marketing can keep my interest even slightly, then it is a step in the right direction.

Looking for information about this movie (if you are interested in actually seeing it) it quite fun and exciting. And I am looking forward to the movie more than I would have if it had been crammed down my neck in the media. The advertising has worked, and I don't care.

Just if anyone's interested, the new trailer is available:

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=21492

Although apparantly it's playing in front of Beowulf? So watch it there if you're gonna watch that.

I'm still very much interested in it, looks like it's going to be a different movie at any rate.

I will most definitely be seeing it when it comes out so I don't get spoiled in the slightest.

ALSO, for bonus amusement value, have a browse around various forums on the net (such as IMDB) and read all the theories about how the monster is Godzilla, or Cthulhu. or a giant lion, or whatever.

Unless they have "hyperspace technology" (Our knowleadge about physics tell us they don' t), or a very good cryogenization tech (and desires to be cryogenizated for zillion of years for trevelling in the space, our knowleadge about psycology tell us they don' t), or live for zillion years (Our knowleadge in biology tell us they don't), Aliens shouldn' t worry you.

But Nacho...aren't you a Futurama fan? That was a documentary you know.

Consider yourself corrected! This is a myth as far as my earlier reading has proven.

You are wrong! The mother's father thing is a myth.

Quote from: Andail on Sun 18/11/2007 12:09:28
Even though this has been corrected in this thread, I'd like to point out the quite apparent contradiction. If baldness is hereditary on the mother's side, what difference would it make if your mother's dad was bald? Your mother would consequently not pick up his genes either.

Thanks guys for pointing out I am an idiot :D

Andail's point did occur to me later, but frankly I am too proud a man to admit I was wrong. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM VERTIGOADDICT. GET A HAT!

My dad has a bald spot and my mum actually has a brush with her thick roll of hair.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think baldness is hereditary on the mother's side? So if your mum's dad is (or was) bald, then...er...get a hat?

Cocktails and light entertainment at a party consisting of sensible young people.

Sounds interesting! What are you dressing as? I bet it's an awesome concept for a costume, whatever it is. I'll wager it's not a brilliant costume though. But the concept and character is BOUND to be great.

My pop ordered it (from the Game website I believe) and it arrived today.

Luckily I am going back home tomorrow to steal it.  :=

Spoiler
That sounds to me more like he's not gonna have a happy ending than he'll betray our man, to be honest...that would be a shame 'cos I like Simon.

GG is clearly onto something though! Good job in finding that in the Handbook!

And roll on Case 7!

Ha, I considered making them blue for a split second, but I figured that's been done to death

Funnily enough, they seemed to stand out more to me as red than they would have blue. I thought it was some kind of anti-reference. But that's more my problem than the game's of course :P

Anyhoo, I wasn't going to discuss theories really because this isn't Lost or something, I thought there would only be a handful of people who would be interested.

But nonetheless:

Spoiler
When the oracle mentioned a betrayal, I immediately thought Simon for some reason. No logic behind that, it was just my first thought, and I was gutted as I really like Simon. Then I remembered Percy and that made more sense.

Towards the end though, I thought Alice could be in on "it" - whatever "it" is - too. As mentioned above, it's possible she took whatever was in the box. Not to mention the gravestone, that certainly raises eyebrows.

Also - and I may be mixing this up with some other piece of fiction - isn't Ben a virgin? I seem to recall this being mentioned in Case 3 or something? If he's with Alice now, that could change - or not if Alice chooses so...(if I've gotten that mixed up with an episode of Buffy or something then I apologise)

Percy is clearly a key player of course, especially now we know he definitely is not a police officer. I hope we get to see him soon so he can give us some more clues.

I do not think, however, that Ben has been played from the very start. I think there are...forces that are moving him in the right direction, namely things like Quincy showing up, but I think things such as Case 1 or Case 5 were just coincidental. There may be an overall plot arc, but each game is contained as well, not everything has to be connected necessarily.

The dreams are interesting in this Case. Either he is seeing through someone else's eyes or "reliving" a past life or life of one of his ancestors perhaps? Case 1 Deluxe hinted that Ben's grandfather might be part of things to come, and while 1805 would be too far back for him, it could be a relative of his.

I apologise if I've got any names or facts wrong. It's been a while since I played the others. I have some time free so I may play them again to refresh my mind and make some amendments.

I just finished it and thought it was a very fine game! I like how the last two are being set up. I have a couple of theories and such myself, but I won't say anything here for now in case I am horribly wrong!

Overall I would give Grundi's work an A-, it would be an A++ were it not for one key missed opportunity:

I'm was disappointed in the colour of these cups Mister!

I miss this thread.

Song: Experimental Film by They Might Be Giants

Comment: Fun short pop-rock track that I can listen to on repeat for ages. Not normally my sort of thing but it's so happy I can't resist.

How I discovered it: The flash cartoon I have linked to above - I am a fan of the site, and knew some TMBG beforehand, but the site brought this song to my attention. I have since downloaded it and listened to it on much better speakers and such, which improves it tenfold.

Fun Fact: I have not met a human being who has not smiled while listening to this song.

I enjoyed it, but then my expectations weren't too high. I stopped watching the series a few years ago because I simply didn't enjoy it anymore, so maybe going "cold turkey" allowed me to appreciate it more.

It's by no means brilliant, the plot is pretty terrible, but there are some very funny moments.

Apparantly the cast are contracted to do another two movies should they happen - although to be honest I hope they don't. One is enough.

Also, m0dsy: Did it not occur to you that the "Spider-pig" thing might be to the tune of, you know, the old Spider-man theme rather than some British kids TV show that about 20 people have heard of? :P

Also, I quite enjoy Lost.

Me too. Let's be friends.

I just read about this in Empire and unsurprisingly, the details are scarce.

But I think this is often where ol' JJ really shines, in giving JUST ENOUGH information and nothing more. It certainly gets people interested.

I don't know how most people feel about the new form of marketing that has formed in recent years, where instead of being given information and promotion on a plate people have to seek it out more, but personally I love it.

A good viral campaign can spark lots of interest and get people excited over...well...not a lot really. And I think that is an intelligent way to market something. It keeps people hooked as information trickles slowly in, and this keeps them interested for as long as you need them to be (if done well.)

Thoughts?

Love this series.

If you like Extras, you should check out Curb Your Enthusiasm, which was an influence.

Hmmmm, I love Extras (and more or less anything that Ricky Gervais and Stevce Merchant are associated with) but have never gotten into CYB.

I tried watching a couple of episodes of CYB aaaages ago ('cos I quite like Seinfeld also) but didn't think it was that great. But I may try again if anyone could recommend a couple of classic episodes to check out?

ALSO on an Extras related note: one episode left apparantly. A 90 minute Christmas special. I would guess they will split it into two parts (like The Office Christmas special.) I, for one, am looking forward to it!
