I am stuck at the cave, the nazis are in there and I cant do anything else, can anyone help. Good game

You can't do much at the cave, really, just grab what you can.

However, is it possible you missed something on the drunken nazi?

Just finished it, after moaning a lot on #ags of course.

That last puzzle was pretty cool. I was so frustrated while I was trying to get it, but then when I did, it was a forehead slapping "of course" moment - those are usually the most satisfying of puzzles.

The fight system seemed a little odd though - I tried fighting the guy 3 times and all 3 times I lost. HOWEVER, I then figured out a way to get past him without fighting him - the problem is, I did it slightly wrong:

Spoiler
I accidently used the wrong name
[close]

so I had to fight him a fourth time. Somewhat oddly, I won this itme.

Graphics are very pretty and all, but hey, we've all known that for months....er....years, rather.

A minor niggle I had is choosing which option to use at certain points - but that is partly a criticism of the Lucasarts GUI than this game specifically. For example:

Spoiler
I knew i had to get the needle out of the compass, so I tried everything I could for ages until someone told me simple to "push" it.

Similarily, I had to help someone who did not know it was as simple as "use wires" in the car.
[close]

Not a major thing, just a little frustration. But I guess that's a problem with any adventure game puzzle to some people!

Good luck with the rest of the project! I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Planometric Creator
Sun 21/05/2006 15:16:23
That's not planometric, although I don't have time to go into the details of planometric just now.

However, to ensure this isn't a completely negative post:

Around the time of A Friend Indeed the same thing came up (that it wasn't isometric or planometric) which led to someone (I think it was Andail) coining the term "Parallelometric" to describe this style of drawing. Personally, I quite like that.

EDIT: Gah, Darth beat me to it :P And also I forgot to mention the program itself. Well, I'll download it just now & comment on it later! :)

General Discussion / Re: Da Vinci Code Redux

I read the Da Vinci Code last year, after all the hype (I hadn't read any reviews of it as I managed to read it a month or two before my friends somehow). I agree with a lot of the comments here - Oranges is spot on about how Brown made it a page turner.

I was just talking to my pop just before I came on here about the same matter actually - he hasn't read it yet, and I basically told him that on the whole it's not a very well written book, but it's still a page turner. Personally I did enjoy the "historical" aspect of it, although I did take it all with a pinch of salt of course.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I probably will if someone else asks me to. I'm not sure how it will convert to the big screen really - a lot of the interest in the book is about the explanation of the Holy Grail - the talking bits. Scenes and scenes of explanation of history can't be very entertaining I imagine. But I'll reserve full judgement until I, y'know, SEE it.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Best ROCK song ever!
Wed 12/04/2006 12:49:48
I hope you're kidding, but it's hard to tell on the interweb.

You DO know "Behind Blue Eyes" is a "The Who" song right?

Apart from that, I'm not going to comment on your choice of Fred Durst as a hero - I just disagree.

Oh man, is there any way I could pimp my myspace band here too?

www.myspace.com/thedavidcooperexperience

Please, don't hurt me too badly. I've been writing some good stuff too...

Also, I think spleen totally needs to advertise his band too, as apparantly they have just started gigging again, but I won't do it for him 'cos that would be strange.

Sorry for the thread-hijack-attempt chicky :P I like what I'm hearing here, you've got a veyr raw & edgy sound - I wish you guys luck in the future! :D

Not to act like a smart-alecy dick or anything, but:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=12733.0

Post date says 2004 and I'm pretty sure that was the same date as the Real Ultimate Power thingy.

So....anyone?

EDIT: Apparantly there wasn't one last year, on searching:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=20086.0

There was something though...I remember Grundi did a GiP thread as an April Fools, but was there something else (not by CJ evidently)?

I liked the joke this year, although I anticipated something when coming onto the site this time. :P

I was discussing with a couple of guys of #ags though - what was the prank last year?

As I recall, the shareware thing & the realultimatepower parody were in 2004 - what was the big thing for April 1st 2005? I think I had it for a while earlier, but I lost it again.

I think that perspective is pretty good. ;D
Not exactly. I'd even say there's NO perspective.
Quote

Actually I think the lack of perspective is called "isometric". ;)

A lack of perspective is not an isometric.

This is isometric:

http://rhysd.syntesis.org/tutorial/

Basically isometric is when there are three dimensions, all at 60 degrees to each other. It's nothing like this piece.

As for this piece, I don't really think I can add anything that hasn't been said already

Afflict, would you care to expand? Namely, telling him how he can improve on each of these areas?

Personally, I think you've gotten off to a good start, but there's one thing that is bugging me - you say this is for a haunted house, but it doesn't really give off a spooky or eerie vibe.

If you want you make it seem more haunted, I would suggest adding some tradtional "scary" elements - perhaps a cobweb or two, or a picture on the wall (with eyes that would in theory follow you around the room).

Lighting can also play a big part in creating an atmosphere. Darken the picture a little, and then provide a brighter light on areas that need to be highlighted. I notice the light in the centre at the top - maybe make this sort of like a spotlight, providing the centre of the room with a circle of light in the centre - tinting this green might help further. The rest of the room could be left in relative darkness.

Of course, it might just be that you don't want the player to know that it's haunted yet, and if so, then fine, forget what I just said.

Hope that helps to some extent.

General Discussion / Re: Mohammed cartoons

And now for something completely different (well, not THAT different):

Danish paper rejected Jesus cartoons

Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that have caused a storm of protest throughout the Islamic world, refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ, it has emerged today.
The Danish daily turned down the cartoons of Christ three years ago, on the grounds that they could be offensive to readers and were not funny.

In April 2003, Danish illustrator Christoffer Zieler submitted a series of unsolicited cartoons dealing with the resurrection of Christ to Jyllands-Posten.

Zieler received an email back from the paper's Sunday editor, Jens Kaiser, which said: "I don't think Jyllands-Posten's readers will enjoy the drawings. As a matter of fact, I think that they will provoke an outcry. Therefore, I will not use them."

I'd just like to add that pornography is awesome. Did I mention this before? Fornication rocks too. Both do, really. I like sheep, anyone with me?!

No one semeed to pick up on the fact that Voh went from pornography to sheep in two sentences & one easily affordable monthly payment! Have you been looking through AGA's image collection again?

Anyway, carry on with your.....religion & such.

HADDAS is stating to SOUND like an INDIANA JONES game.

I found this a couple of days back, then was quite surprised to see it on Weebl's Stuff as well! It's a pretty gosh darned good toon.

What pleased me more is that I realised it was Trapezoid on music duty! I did of course rub this in the face of the guy who sent a link to me:

"Hey, I post on a forum on which the guy who did this song used to post a while back before he became all famous & such."

Well, not famous perhaps. But the guy's achieved a lot. Kudos to him.

That is great news!

My DVD boxsets of Season 3 & 4 arrived just this week, so the timing was pretty cool too. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason Billy decided to release this news.

I'm almost 99% certain.

Don't they have stores that sell foreign food in Japan?
90% fat free! Why don't they just cut off the 10% that isn't free of fat?

Why don't you just eat 9 out of every 10 beans you serve yourself?

You're all forgetting Mesmerize by System of a Down.

And nobody cares about your obscure, possibly made-up bands Al!

I'm not.

Okay I liked some of the songs on it, but that backing vocal guy ruins it with his whiney voice!

I agree. I liked some parts of those albums, but the second singer (he's the guitarist right?) is a terrible singer.

However, Hypnotise gets bonus points for the great lyrics on "Vicinity Of Obscenity". "Banana banana banana terracotta banana terracotta terracotta pie!"

My albums of this year would be:

Foo Fighters - In Your Honour
Queens Of The Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyse
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
The Subways - Young For Eternity
Nine Black Alps - Everything Is
Millionaire - Paradisiac
Robert Plant & The Strange Sensations - Mighty Rearranger
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman I'm A Machine (not sure if that one's 2005 though, might've been 2004)
Cream - Live At The Royal Albert Hall
Queen & Paul Rodgers - Return Of The Champions

That's all I can think of.

How about albums you're looking forward to in 2006? I'd say:

The Strokes
The Arctic Monkeys
(I actually already own both of these & they're both great, but they are both 2006 so....)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Muse
Mondo Generator
Desert Sessions 11/12
Coattail Riders
Be Your Own Pet
Eagles Of Death Metal
er.....there's probably some more. But that's all for now.

And for the record: Al has awesome musical taste.

I never realised that. You are correct sir.

Anyway, a quick google brought this up for a demo:

I haven't downloaded or tried it yet, but it's worth a shot!
