Just google "mpeg to avi" for a suitable program. Most'll be trials, but if this is all you need it for, that shouldn't be a problem...

Just a quick search brought this up, & I think I tried it a few months back, so you're bound to find something suitable for you. Enjoy!

I heard the film is directed by the same gous who did the 'milk carton' musicvideo for the song 'coffee and TV' by some band that I cannot remember.
Isn't that awesome?

The band is Blur, if you care...

I have mixed feelings about the Hitchhiker movie, I am worried it'll be too......"Hollywood" - they'll care too much about the special effects, which to me is wrong, I kinda liked the extra head used in the TV series that Mr Hero mentioned because it looked so.....odd. For me, it's all about the bizarreness of this new universe, and part of that might be lost if they go over the top with the CGI and whatnot.

Also, I am not sure if the readings of the book itself will transfer well to big screen, in a big movie like this they split the movie up too much, with these breaks, if you know what I mean.It may seem a little disjointed. That said, I heard a rumour that Tom Baker may be doing the voice of the book, & I can see that working well, especially seeing as he did the Little Britain voiceovers.

Still, I will be going to see it, & I hope all my fears are put to rest. If it's done well, it'll be done very well.

Just my 2p.

Ususally if that happens to my tablet I just restart the PC.....it seems to do wonders. It seems to be pretty random, I have no idea what does it, but I know that that often works for me. Simple, but true...

Even my email address is fake (which, if you look at my "addresses", you probably knew that anyway). My dad is very strict about Internet stuff.

If this is your main problem, afraid of getting your address out there, there is an option in registered member's profiles to hide your e-mail address fron the public, so no one can get it. So you'll have all the joys of posting without the horrors of potential poeple sending spam or worse to  your e-mail address! Mmmmmmk?

Critics' Lounge / Re: Does this look alien

.bmp files are a big nono here. You should save your piccys as .jpgs or .pngs, then you can show them on the forums.

Anyway, in answer to your question:

Well, the main question - "Does this look like an alien?" - is of course IMPOSSIBLE to answer as no on knows what an alien looks like, but I'm sure people will indulge you anyway. :P

My main problem is that he looks a little cliched for a game. Unless this is a comedy, possibly parody game, I would advise coming up with something looking a little more original than a little green man with big black bug-eyes.

That said, I quite like what you have here. You seem to have a humanoid...ic shape about right, and the shading is quite good for the style.

Hope that helps.

Blackthorne, this seems like an appropriate time ot point out that AGA is Welsh (or at least lives in Wales...I dunno....). Although, there are 3 or 4 Scottish-living-in people at AGS (myself, SSH, Mestaphipopolis, The Dude.....if they still post.....) so....

Hints & Tips / Re: Making hidden comments
Sun 14/11/2004 15:12:53
You use [ hide ] tags, without the spaces

For example:

[ hide ] SECRET [ /hide ]

(without the spaces between the brackets) would give you:

Spoiler
SECRET
[close]

All BBCode-type-stuff can be found here:

Everything you wanted ot know about BBCode but were too afraid to ask

Although [ hide ] doesn't actually seem to be there....

Thanks for replying guys.

stuh: I tried to put in some bright highlights, & part of this is lost in scanning (they look rather blue) but I see what you mean about the bottle picking up some of the table colour. I'll try to incorperate this in future attempts.

Evil: I hadn't really thought about colour here - I wanted to just experiment with the medium first. Thanks, I shall think about colour theory in the future. I guess I just wanted to start simple, I need a base point to move out from.

Boyd: I think this is all about experimentation, so yeah, I shall look at different ways of using the pastels.

And now for something completely different:

That's me, in pastel form.

I have noticed that when scanning a pastel sketch you lose a lot of the texture, something that is very important with this medium. Also, here I tried brightening it a bit in Photoshop because my scanner seems to make it awfully dark, so the whitish patches are a little brighter here than they are in the actual sketch. It's hard to get it to appear on screen exactly as it does off.

Also, light-source was a bright lamp front-rightish (that is, above his left eye, right of the pic as you look at it).

Still, please crit away, taking into account that I hadn't read your replies when I did this.

I've decided I quite like using pastels, I like the abstract feel that Evil & Boyd mentioned - I'll probably buy some of my own when I return these to my teacher. Before then, however, I believe I shall try a larger still-life, as Evil suggested.

Also, on a different matter: Should I just post links to these pics instead of showing them in-thread? I imagine they take ages to load for the 56kers...

There you go. They have detail, it's just to far away for you to see it.

Seriously, if you are going to ask for detail, at least put in a little yourself.

Next: A (football / soccer) ball and I want to see the hexagons and pentagons on its surface!

And this time it has to be within a decent viewing distance....

So do you know any puzzle compilation?

I haven't read through the whole topic (I'll look at your article another time), but whenever someone mentions something like this, I feel as if I have to point them towards:

THIS

and

For my current Art & Design course, I need to use as many different types of medium as I can to get a good mark. Before this year, I was only really used to pencils, paints & cahlk/charcoal, to some extent, so I have been advised to give pastels a shot. Here's my first attempt at using them:

Took me about an hour, did that.

It's hard to scan, in that it doesn't look exactly like it does in life, but that can't be helped.

What I want to know is: Am I heading in the right direction here?

I know there are a couple of problems with the shape of the bottle, the neck is too short & it's not quite symmetrical, but what I would really like crits on is how I can improve future pastel sketches - I hope to have another shot tomorrow. Please, tear this apart, I want to get better at it. I am of course going to talk to my teacher about it, but it's always nice to have different people's opinions on different techniques.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Scroll down for my second attempt using pastels.

General Discussion / Re: Anim8tor 3d question
Wed 10/11/2004 16:36:10
I believe it could be possible if you create the models in anim8or & took a screenshot (using print screen) of the paticular frames you needed. All that would be needed after that is a little 'touching them up' in a graphics editing program to remove the background from the program, etc, to make them suitable still pictures for importing into the sprite manager. Enjoy!

you mean the one that lelev posted just a few posts up?  ::)

Heh, how ironic, I do apologise lelev.

Heh, that IS the one that Haddas posted, but yeah, there was another one along the lines of:

Sullder (I can never remember which is which): This machine you are hooked up to will monitor your breathing & heart rate to see whether you are lying to us or not. Do you understand?

Homer: Yes. *machine explodes*

Well......that first part is nowhere near what it should be, but you get the general gist of it.

Is that all you want? War?

Looking over your posts, you seem interested in nothing but taxes & war. Granted, the taxes issue is important, but surely you are hoping to have NO more wars, especially what with the farce over the last one.

And I'm sure Rosiecakes is tres offended by the beer remark. Don't cry Dragonrose, it'll all be okay.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Yet another sketch.

A couple of things that strike me on close inspection (it did of course take me a while to find something to crit :P):

His legs seem muchly (well, not muchly, but a bit) out of proportion with his upper body, in that they are much thicker than his arms. Now this could be because he is wearing baggy trousers (& is playing Madness), but then surely his t-shirt would have a certain degree of bagginess too? At the moment it looks a little tight. Just a thought.

Also, it looks as if it is supposed to be a moving pose, like he is going into some kind of a solo or something. For a dramatic effect to this, might I advise giving the hair a little more 'oomph', like having it trail back a little so it gives the impression that he is moving forward.

I know you said don't crit the gee-tar, but it looks a little thin to me, especially the neck. Either that or he has very long fingers.

But it's a fantastic start. I don't think you will get a lot of crit until you start inkin and/or colouring it, because there's not much you can improve on (in my admittedly simplistic artist's opinion) at the moment.

Goodeth lucketh!

hahah id like to see the replies to this

Me too.

Alright, I'll admit, I'm not the biggest follower of American politics, but I shall give it the ol' college try (college try! see what I did there?):

You make it sound as if America isn't doing that well financially or in terms of power at the moment. I think Bush has made it quite clear that America can push everyone else around, & give whatever reasons he wishes for it.

Also, do you support all of Bushes decisions in the last few years? Do you think a country with too much potential power should be taken down a notch (as with Iraq)? Did you cheer when he told us he was going to get rid of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction?

Then why do you want your country to keep building nukes?

And why do you need a 'strong cowboy' as you put it? Are you scared Kerry might ban the rodeo next year? You haven't really backed up why cowboys are better than hippys, & I for one think a more peaceful leader would be better than a trigger-happy macho-man. The type who doesn't push the rest of the world around for their lunch money (or whatever else they may possess).

Also, what's wrong with polar bears? Do you wanna hurt this guy?*:

I think most of the world would agree that keeping these guys is much more important than increasing America's oil monopoly.

QuoteKerry is nobody. Liberals just vote fpr him because he isnt bush.

Yup. He's the lesser of two evils (no offense if Evil reads this).

I'm sure there are many more who are much more well researched & learned on this subject, but these are basically my gut feelings, based on what I know. I do not follow American politics much, as I said, but then again I imagine most Americans don't either.

*NOTE - There are probably much cuter polar bear pics on the net. But I like this guy.

Are you asking if you should tell us about your site when you make it?

If so, most people do so here in Gengen, but only if they have a site which they think is worth promoting, & could be useful (or entertaining) to others.
