General Discussion / Re: Isometric builder

What I meant was that there was no way to know 100% for sure that your angle was 30 degrees in Paint, but then YOke had to go & be smart n stuff.........that's actually a good way of doing it. Go with that.

If anyone's interested, here's a little applet I found a while back that people might find useful for isometricising....or at least planning it:

http://illuminations.nctm.org/tools/isometric/isometric.asp

And once you see how easy it is, hey, pie might be considered difficult compared to this!

I mean, look at what I came up with in 5 minutes!:

And if that's 5 minutes, just THINK what you could do in 10!

You'd have to get the angle EXACTLY right though (the angle is 30 degrees from the horizon, if anyone's interested) & as far as I know there is no way to do this in Paint.

What about the big bit that says "modify" at the top of your post (beside "Reply with Quote")? :P

We also had a really nice thread about theory of puzzle design, yet I cannot find it. Anyone to the rescue?

This thread had a couple of links in it, not sure if it's what you are looking for:

(There is one massive discussion on the matter from the EZboard days)

Maybe we Scots are just SO damn clever we deserve an extra year.........or something......

I dunno how it all works. I guess that's the result of different education systems, I know the qualifications are all COMPLETELY different, & it can be hard going to a uni in the other country as a result...

Um I don't see it now, but looking at your post count, I'm assuming it was cos you had 1337 posts. :P

That would make sense, seeing as at time of typing he has 1338 posts.

How cool. I imagine my 1337th post will be my last ever, so I can always stay like that.

I got my exam results a week ago, so I go back to school on Wednesday (cos of the different timezones in bonnie Scotland, of course........), going into 5th year, I dunno what that is in the English school system. Hurrah!

It's funny, I'm actually looking forward to going back, I like the routine a little, I like definately seeing my friends all the time, I even enjoy some of the actual WORK.

I agree, if he had posted a new topic, someone would've said "We've already discussed this, reply to the old topic"

Damn newbies, they can't win.....not that they deserve to or anything ¬_¬.......

He said the next next game, not the regular ol' next game, so that would be 13.

Dumbass :P

Firstly, I doubt this is the right place to post this (GiP is for games that are fully in production), but I'm sure a mod will move it soonish.

Anyway, I played with your battle system for a while, & I have a few suggestions:

For it to work, I'd suggest you have a LOT of varied moves, so the player has a lot of choice & won't get bored with the system easily. I mean, some would be more risky but do more damage, etc etc, you know the type of stuff (presumably you are a bigger RPG fan than I am)

And also, something I noticed was the amount of times each player missed - it outweighed the hits a lot. Now, I don't think the hero & monster are THAT clumsy as to miss THAT much, so I think it could be worth changing.

But still, a good start, & could be even better with some decent development. Maybe you could show the source code for people to play with?

I did.

Praise me.

The best way to find which is better is to try them out yourself. I know it's pretty obvious, but the interfaces & features of each will be useful to different people. After all, they are both free, so why not experiment? :P
#614
What if a middling idea is a lot easier to implement than one of the popular ones?

I mean, in theory, the more features the better, so also it should be taken into account how much time/effort will be needed to make the new stuff, for CJ's sake (obviously no one else has any idea on what is easier to implement).
#615
You want to encourage new people to use phrases like "Word up to ya mama"?
#616
The actual creator of the game, one 'fovmester' (I think) doesn't seem to browse the main forums often anyway, & therefore won't have even noticed all the controversy, but Grund is right, remember what happened when there was so much discussion about Flashbax?

And sorry if I sound like I'm repeating said points here:

But it does seem as if a lot of people have missed the point a little. Surely it is a good idea for at least a warning on something like this, so that people who could possibly be offended can steer clear of it.

While I do not find the content offensive, & do not see why anyone would, that doesn't mean it is entirely unoffensive.....if you see what I mean. "Different strokes" for different folks, n all.

* veryweirdguy wonders what that show would teach us on the issue...
#617
I'm not denying your opinion, but may I ask why you find it offensive?

Y'see it is generally accepted that the KKK were racists. They were more famous for that than they were for......their beautiful singing voices. It is historically accurate, & this is what thye were like. Nothing we can change about it.

If you found a book containing information about the KKK, would you be offended because it shows people being racist?

By that logic, all knowledge of the KKK, or even the Nazis, or Stalin, should be erased IMMEDIATELY!

In fact, the hero of the game specifially tries to prevent the burning, & therefore trying to prevent racism, & as I remember the KKK are not portrayed as the most intelligent bunch anyway.

Just a few things to think about.

EDIT: And don't make DG angry.....you wouldn't like him when he's angry.....

I don't think it's fair to say coloured, just like I don't think it's fair to say the next entry must be photo realistic as you did in the Paint game. I think people just just interpret the current thing as best they can, regardless of individual skill.

Well, did you notice the dodgy looking wall at the left? There might be something behind there........

I noticed a new thing....or at least, I've never seen it before:

While I was replying to someone's question in a topic, I clicked 'post' (duh). Instead of taking me back to the topic, it took me back to the "post reply" screen with a message saying something along the lines of:

"While you were typing, someone else posted. You may want to rethink your post"

Someone had already answered the question while I was typing, so I no longer needed to post.

I've never seen that before, & I thought it was quite clever.
