Okay, so I just got very confused.

Looking at this, there is said things such as
Quote802.11a and 802.11g WLANs offer theoretical bandwidth up to 54 Mbps. (In contrast, typical wired Ethernets run at 100 Mbps.)
and
QuoteThe performance of Wi-Fi networks in practice never approaches the theoretical maximum.

So as I'm not too big on stuff like this, I would guess that this would mean that the internet speed on the wireless units in the house are slower than the wired ones. About 50% of the speed. But when I show this to my friend who supposedly knows more about this than me, he says that
Quoteif you for example have your PC hooked up to a server, it's slower with wi-fi, but the internet speed stays the same.

But to me, this makes no sense! Please, can someone enlighten me on this issue? :)

Yes!

Some time ago I applied for this exchange thingy in school, and some days ago I got a letter saying I got accepted!! :D So after the vacation I'll be moving to Bournemouth, England and I'll stay with some "parents" there.

I'm really excited about this, not only because I'm going away for a year but also since Bournemouth is said to have a warm climate and this is where I like it best! :)

Does any of you AGSers have any exchange experiences like this? Would be nice with tips and such :)

General Discussion / My flash game.

Some of you might remember that I asked for help with actionscripting and stuff some time ago. I've been working on a game for about 5 weeks in a school without any form for actionscript background. To be honest, it's been quite the bitch to first learn this and then make a game with the ambitions i had but now it's finished! :)

I am very grateful to fred from these forums for helping me out with the scripting. So please people, give an applause to this man.

And to the game. Have in mind that this is my first game, and the first time I've worked with actionscript, so it is quite buggy.
Knock yourself out!

Hey people!
I'm trying to make a low-res version of this old char I made.

I'm not trying to make him excactly like the high-res version, but make him look like the same person at least, and now there's something bugging me about him that I can't quite put my finger on!

Sierra Classics here!

I just thought I should show you this. Vivendi/sierra have released a series of old classics for pc!

Well, it seems like I've taken on too much to handle.

I'm working on a project for school where I'm supposed to, on my own, learn actionscript and create a flash game engine and a game.
Soo I was very enthusiastic to begin with, and I've come quite a distance from where I started. I've used tutorials and learnt quite alot of actionscript compared with what I knew before, but it has all come to an end it seems.

This might sound alittle weird, but I'm having extreme problems learning anything more when it comes to this lately. I just can't comprehend it anymore. Maybe it's that I've lost interest for this now, but I really need to get this project done. :-\

Now, don't get me wrong as I'm not asking anyone to do any work for me. I just need to know how I do certain things to the script that I already have.

The .fla here..

So what I need to do is to add a way to shoot and add an animation to this. I've tried several tutorials on how to, but I can't seem to make it work. As it is now an orb appears if CTRL is pressed.
I need to add simple enemies and a way to make them disappear when shot.
And I also need to make an exit thingy which will take the player to the next level.

Again, I'm not asking people to do this for me! I just need help so I won't fail this project :-\

EDIT: On second thought, this should maybe be moved to CL...

Bonus round

I hadn't heard of him before I saw these two episodes of bonus round, but I've really come to admire him! The way he says that he want to make the games and do the things that make him happy, and not just go with the flow to make money is really admiring in my eyes!

HOME trailer.

Personally, I think this looks VERY impressive. Sony might have won the jackpot with this. Weighs up for the previous, flawed online system.

I-Doser

Quote"I-Doser Labs is the leading producer of Binaural Brainwave CDs and computer applications. Using proven, scientific, and safe methods of synchronizing your brainwaves; a simulated state can be achieved through the use of our advanced audio CDs, or the I-Doser Application, and a pair of high quality stereo headphones. Our Binaural process has been refined with years of research and development. With thousands of satisfied users, the I-Doser Labs CDs and the I-Doser Application for PCs continue to lead the industry as the only safe and effective method to achieve a simulated mood or experience.

Recreational Simulation CDs are collections of binaural doses on standard audio CDs. Each audio track contains our advanced binaural beats that will synchronize your brainwaves to the same state as the recreational dose. Mixed with our advanced auditory pulses are soothing backtracks of ambient soundscapes to help the brain induce of state of mood lift, euphoria, sedation, and hallucination. I-Doser CDs are also perfect for using with iPods and other MP3 players, or simply through a regular CD player.

I-Doser for the PC is the most advanced computer application available to achieve a simulated mood or experience through the use of binaural beats. Use I-Doser to play one-time use doses purchased through the I-Doser Store. Each dose is scientifically designed to give you the optimal measure of pure beats safely and effectively to induce state. Every download of the I-Doser application includes two free doses."

Basically, it's a program that plays sounds for 30-45 minutes for the user to achieve a paricular feeling or state of mind. Most of the files you can play in the program are sounds made for you to achieve the same feeling as if using a particular drug. Heroin, marijuana, peyote etc.

I have tried a couple of these, and even though I haven't gotten most of them to work I am surprised of the effect I've gotten from some of them. "Opium" for example, made me extremely relaxed and slow for 20 minutes or so after using it.

Anyone else here who have tried it? What are your thoughts and feelings about there existing a "drug" with no age limits? Is it only placebo?

Btw, there is one "drug" there called "inspire", and it's supposed to do just that. Get your inspiration flowing and help you to be creative etc.  :D Possibly a great addition to this community?

General Discussion / Battlefield 2142?
Thu 28/12/2006 18:33:20
I bought this game yesterday, and I already love it! I have been playing BF2 for some while now, and I must say, even though there are alot alike, this game has improved.

Well, basically what I posted about the game for, was because I wondered if there are anyone here who also play this game. I would love to play with someone I know, and not just random people on random servers. :)

Critics' Lounge / Animation

There is something very wrong with this animation. I'm pleased with his arm and leg movements, but his headbobbing seems wrong for some reason, and I feel that more of his body should bob or something, but I can't put my finger on it. All help on the animation much appreciated! :)

Yay! The new Bond movie is out, and I went to the world premiere yesterday! Free champagne, as much as we wanted :D
The movie, I must say are very different from most other Bond movies, in a good way. Much more focus on the story, etc.
Many critics have complained about the new actor, and how he is too "soft" and such. I myself actually think he did a great job.

Anyone else saw it? What are your thoughts on it?

General Discussion / Maplestory?

For those of you who dont know, maplestory is a brilliant 100% free mmorpg! 2D, and great pixelart, that I'd recommend to everyone here.
For those of you who do know, anyone here play on the server Broa, in the global version?
Would be nice to play some with someone from the forums! :)
I'm still only lvl 8, but would be nice to get in touch with someone :P :)

Okay, I just got my tablet yesterday, and I've been playing around alittle with it, and decided I should try to make a background.

So I have been sketching for some hours, and were finally more or less satisfied. Here's my problem; I can't seem to find an effective way to color it. Should I make separate layers and color ofer the B/W sketch, or what?

-Update

I've been following the coloring tut, and i'm actually getting more and more pleased. Only thing is the sign shadow.. I just can't seem to make it look right. Both compared to the light, and also the shadows texture.
And does the cliff shadows look okay?

-Update 21/9

First, thanks for all critics! It's nice for a tablet noob to get some pro help :)

I made the whole thing alot bluer, to make it look more like a night-ish pic. But I'm still unsure about the cliff shadows. Do they really look okay, or does anyone have a suggestion?
Any other suggestions are warmly welcome! :)

Update 21/9

It's supposed to be a "creepy-ish" nightscene.

Any crits on the actual bg would be nice, of course! :)

General Discussion / Garageband
Tue 29/08/2006 10:15:09
This might not be the best place to post this, as I believe most of you use windows, but I'm having a slight problem, and you guys seem to have an answer to everything.
Anyway, me and a friend made a song in this program for mac called "Garageband". (those who are able to help me, know what it is, so i wont get too technical...) We were both pleased with the song, so I were supposed to save the song as an mp3 and send it to him.
Here is the problem; I'm not able to save it as .mp3  :o The only format i can save it in, is .aif. And then it becomes HUUGE!

Anyone know what to do?

Hi!
I've just been accepted at a college in norway, and i'm taking the "media" classes. (movies, music, animations etc..) I've already decided to get a macbook for my studies, because i heard mac is what you should have when working with films and music and such.
But a couple of days ago, i got a mail from apple where they announce their new software, shake 4.

Looking at the site, and different reviews and such, i find the software irresistible. And the price isn't too bad either,($499.00) for a software like this. But is it worth it?
If anyone have any experience with the program, or anyone have any opinions, it would be nice if you could let me know what you think. Is it hard to work with? Too advanced for a 16-year old?

Yours truly - vict0r
